DFS College Basketball National Championship Notes For Draftkings and Fanduel 4/8/2019

Good morning/afternoon to you beautiful people out there in DFS land!  You have managed to find yourself in a great spot here at DFS Army.  I look forward to providing you with analysis and picks throughout this 2019 Tournament Season!  Remember, if I mention a player as a cash game play they most likely are OK for GPP play.  Let’s take a look at what games are on the slate for DraftKings.  The KenPom score projections are in parenthesis.

Texas Tech (58) vs Virginia (61)

College basketball hasn’t been back that long, and we have the coaches teaching!  Save yourself time and energy by letting us do the work.  And, if you want to see a real track record of success, stop by our Wall of Wins page to see what we’ve done in NFL, NBA, and MLB recently.  We aren’t one-trick-ponies at DFS Army, and we are dedicated to sharing our knowledge with you to help you improve your game.

TEXAS TECH vs VIRGINIA

This is an interesting Championship game as two of the top 5 defenses face off.  A defensive game is less than ideal for fantasy purposes so we have to dig a bit deeper than we usually might.  The big question for me is Tariq Owens.  He holds a ton of keys to tonight in terms of both fantasy and the game itself.  When he went out, Michigan St was able to attack the rim more and that allowed Tillman, Ward, and Goins to do a bit more.  If Owens is out or limited in minutes, I expect Virginia to attack the rim with Jerome, Hunter, and Diakite.  If Owens ends up being good to go and plays 20-25 minutes, I think it muddies things up a bit.  Not only does it limit some minutes for some peripheral players of TT but it also can limit some of Diakite’s effectiveness.

Texas Tech has been somewhat of a shocker up to this point as they have been able to withstand some not so good performances by Culver.  In order for TT to win this game, they need Culver and Mooney to carry them with some timely shooting from Moretti.  If we get Owens totally limited to just a handful of minutes, we are going to see Odiase, Francis, and Edwards see an uptick in stats and minutes.  We could get a wildcard like Corprew stepping up and surprising some people.  Moretti is an elite shooter from beyond the arc and while teams don’t make 3’s at a very good clip against UVA, teams do put up a ton of attempts.  I do not think we can use much of Owens outside of a dart play if you are building 10+ lineups at this point.

Virginia has more offensive attacking power than TT, the problem is TT’s defense is more dangerous.  They cause a ton of turnovers, while Virginia’s defense does not.  The best match-ups for UVA are Hunter and Diakite.  The problem with that is we have relied on Hunter recently and he seems to disappear.  He took over for stretches in the second half against Auburn and could be the key to winning this match-up.  I think that Clark is just too cheap for the minutes he should see, so he needs to be considered as one of your highest owned players.  My preference is to take Jerome over Guy because of his ability to do more than just be an elite shooter.  The dart play is probably Key at this point.  His minutes are so volatile but he has the ability to do a lot of things for UVA.
