Hello folks and welcome to my NHL Positional Breakdown for Fanduel!
For those of you who are new to the DFS Army, new to NHL DFS, or just like to read different articles, my name is Matt Dell’Agnese and I’m an MLB and NHL coach and writer for the DFS Army. Hit me for a follow on twitter at mdellagnese14. If you are a DFS Army VIP member you will know that I’m fairly active in our NHL rooms and around to help coach for the amazing sport of Hockey. I was brought to the DFS Army in January and I wrote Painting the Black for baseball, analyzing pitching picks for the slates. If you’ve played MLB, NHL is very similar. The sports are both volatile and players can put up a 0 or low score at any time. Don’t get discouraged if you get cold, just keep with your process and the players will come around. For cash games, you want to correlate players who skate on the same line or same Power play line, in GPPs stack up the full lines. Thankfully, Chop has asked me to help out with our NHL content articles!
I will be breaking down each position with the players who I like with my reasonings for liking them on the slate! I am a Fanduel player, so these articles will include Fanduel pricing and scoring references! Remember to always check for confirmation of goalies and lines!

All Stats are over the Last 3 weeks (8-11 games) unless noticed otherwise!
Ben Bishop: Love Bishop here. As of now, he’s my top goalie on the slate. He gets to face a Buffalo team who is without their top center Jack Eichel and Bishop has been playing great. He’s expensive I get it, but look at the run he’s on. He has not allowed more than 2 goals against in his last 5 starts and has back to back shutouts. I love him in ALL FORMATS.
Tuukka Rask: Rask against a tired Blue Jackets team who can’t seem to find the net? Sign me up. He’s expensive too, but the Jackets are on a back to back and they have been so bad since the trade deadline. Getting Duchene and Dzingel was supposed to help them, well it’s been the opposite. They are averaging under 2 goals/game in their last 10 and Boston will look to come back firing after losing last time out and having their point streak snapped (I blame you Halak). ALL FORMATS
Carey Price: Price has had some rough starts lately, but this matchup with Detroit is good to bounce back. Their top center Dylan Larkin is out again and they did not play well against the Panthers last game without him. Last time they faced off, the Habs won 8-1 and Price yielded 30.4 fanduel points. This is a good spot for him at home too. It is hard to trust him in cash games, but I love him in tournaments. HYBRID
Jordan Binnington: Has had a few rough starts against teams who are finally playing better. Now he faces the Coyotes after they just got spanked by Chicago 7-1. Who knows who will start for Arizona since both goalies did horrible last night. Binnington needs to turn it around especially with Senko going down and the Blues not scoring much lately. The whole team will need to pick up the play in order to win tonight. Thus, leaving Binnington more in GPPs for me tonight.
MacKenzie Blackwood: Tournament only play here, but I see tons of upside with him. Calgary is starting to heat back up again, but Blackwood has been very good since being back with the Devils. He hasn’t allowed more than 2 goals and has scored over 18.4 fanduel points each game since the beginning of February. He will likely see a ton of shots and needs to stop them for the Devils to even come close in this game. It’s risky, but the shot volume should be there for him, even if he doesn’t get the win. Last time he faced them on Feb 27th, he allowed just 2 goals and had 33 saves, good for 18.4 fanduel points. TOURNAMENT ONLY
Patrice Bergeron (8.4k): Bergeron is in a great spot here. Centers are actually not the best today, but Bergeron is consistent. He’s scored at least 10 fanduel points 80% of the time and 15 fanduel points 55% of the time. The Jackets are going to be sluggish tonight and are not playing the best lately. If I’m paying up, Bergeron is my guy.
Tyler Seguin (7.7k): Love me some Dallas tonight against Buffalo. Ullmark is starting for them and he’s #notgood. Buffalo is allowing close to 3.5 goals/game in the last 10 and Seguin has such a good floor.
Tomas Hertl (6.4k): Hertl has proved once again how consistent he can be. In his last 5 games, he hasn’t scored fewer than 16 fanduel points. The Jets do play a little better at home, but they are still allowing close to 35 SOG/game and 3.5 goals/game in the last 10 games. The Jets are averaging 3.6 penalties per game of late and have just a 72% PK%, making Hertl a solid play on the power play too.
Nicklas Backstrom (6.8k): Backstrom is playing very well of late and is the key in the WSH2 line. He is playing MUCH better than Kuz and the preferred center from Washington. This is a tougher matchup with PIT and both teams are playing pretty good defensively lately, but if he can get some quality PP time he could get into the point column again.
Max Domi (5.8k): Tournament only play for me, but Montreal is in a great spot against the Red Wings here. Domi is very inconsistent, but the Red Wings are allowing over 4 goals/game in their last 10 games.
Others to consider: David Krejci (his price is starting to come up, and he’s gotten goals in 4 straight games. Don’t mind him), Crosby
Brad Marchand (8.8k): Love me some BOS1 here tonight. Marchand has been UBER consistent lately and I love the matchup. A guy averaging 26 fanduel points over his last 5 games and shooting more, with a great matchup? Sign me up!
Blake Wheeler (8.5k): Right under Marchand is Wheeler, who is even hotter! The 4 goal game helps his fanduel average, but he’s still been playing great. Aaron Dell is projected for the Sharks and he’s not that great. The Sharks are not allowing a ton of shots lately, but Wheeler is still playing on another level right now.
Alexander Radulov (6.5k): I can see him being a little chalky tonight and rightfully so. He’s been great his last two games and he and Seguin have amazing chemistry. This is an amazing matchup for them as well. He has scored more than 10 fanduel points in 7 of his last 10 games too. Very consistent in a great matchup.
Alex Ovechkin (9k): He can’t suck 3 games in a row, can he? He averages just over a point per game against the Pens in his career with a +18 rating. I don’t think I’m paying for him in cash, but he is still one of, if not the best hockey player in the league and can be used in tournaments.
Timo Meier (5.7k): He crushed last night and sees a $400 increase on fanduel. He still has over 14.4 fanduel points in each of his last 5 games and this matchup is pretty juicy. I do worry about a b2b, but we have seen the Jets allow a bunch of goals. The Sharks are a high powered offense and I love them. You can pair him and Hertl to get exposure to the top two lines along with PP time correlation.
Matthew Tkachuk (5.6k): A hatty last game and he’s been picking up his game lately. I think I would just go to Meier for $100 more because the Devils have actually been playing great defense, but when Tkachuk gets hot, watch out.
Brendan Gallagher (7.3k): Rather pricey for me for his drop off in production lately, but he’s been pretty good lately. MTL will score a bunch tonight against DET and Gallagher should be right in the middle of it.
Brayden Schenn (6.3k): Now that Tarasenko is out, Schenn need to keep up his amazing play. Since coming back from injury all he’s done is put up 2 goals, 3 assists and has scored more than 15 fanduel points in each of the 3 games since he’s been back. No one is really going to play him and Arizona could be tired after getting stomped last night.
Jared McCann (4.9k): I don’t love Pittsburgh tonight, but anytime a guy is back up on the line with Crosby, he’s almost in play. He showed that he didn’t want to be down on the 3rd line. He put up a 0 in that game, gets moved back up with Crosby and Guentzel and scores 2 goals. He’s been showing a solid floor with 3-4 SOGBS per game and getting assists too. Playing on that top line will boost the upside.
Robert Thomas (3.7k): Only if you need to in tournaments. He’s moving up to the top line for the Blues. He’s cheap and the Coyotes could be tired after last night’s game. Thomas has shown some upside when given the opportunity.

Brandon Carlo (3.8k): I absolutely love his value for Boston tonight. He has been blocking shots and shooting at least 3 SOG per game in the last 5 games. He has 24 shots in his last 10 games and 18 blocks, bringing a solid floor for almost a min priced D-man.
Shea Weber (5.6k): Great savings from Gio and Josi is Shea Weber. He’s been doing it all for the Habs lately and this is a beautiful matchup. Production is hard to pinpoint from Montreal, but we know what he brings to the table. He has 32 SOGBS in his last 5 games averaging 20.7 fanduel points. Love the price and the matchup for Weber tonight.
Mark Giordano (6.7k): Gio has been doing it all lately for the Flames. I don’t love this matchup against the Devils, but he’s been consistent. He normally sites over 10 fanduel points and gets a bunch of assists.
Roman Josi (7.1k): Very expensive for a D-man tonight when we don’t have much to pay down for at Center, but he’s been good. His consistency has seemed to come back with 3 straight games with 5 or more SOG. The Ducks are pretty good on the defensive end, but if Nashville is going to win, Josi needs to perform.
Jacob Trouba (5.3k): Trouba has been pretty safe of late, averaging 22.5 fanduel points in his last 5 games. This is a tougher matchup with the Sharks, but he’s been blocking a bunch of shots and likely will see a lot of shots from the Sharks tonight, raising his blocks floor.
