Flynnie’s Forecheck – NHL DFS Advice for Fanduel and Draftkings March 19, 2019

Flynnie’s Forecheck for 3/19/19

We’re back!! After a long off-season of watching the greatest love story since Romeo and Juliet – obviously, I’m talking about Alex Ovechkin’s love affair with the Stanley Cup – it’s time to play some hockey. For those of you that are new to the DFS Army, my name is Rob Flynn. I’m an NHL DFS writer and coach inside the DFS Army. We have the best articles, coaching, and tools in the industry. But let me tell you, the real money is made in the Slack chat that only our  VIP’s have access to. That’s where we talk through a member’s lineup construction, thought process, or just answer any DFS questions they may have. Every coach is very accessible and willing to share our own processes to help every member grow as a player.

I wrote an article describing some of my process and some tips to win. Check it out here. We also have a brand new Research Station that is only available to VIP’s but here is the tutorial, to give you guys a taste of what’s coming this season.  When you sign up to become a member, use promo code PUCK to give yourself 20% off for the life of your membership.

NHL DFS is very similar to DFS MLB. The volatility can be maddening, the floor of every player is ZERO and you need stacking in all contests. In cash games you need at least two players that correlate on either the scoring line or power play, to hopefully grab the goal and an assist. In GPP’s you need to stack the entire line and hope that line goes off for multiple goals.

Take a peek at our latest winner.  DFSA is on fire over NBA All Star Break and would love to help you learn the game of hockey, as well!  Whether you are already a VIP or are just passing by, our coaches can teach the rookie and veteran alike.  Congrats to Handleyrs for a near 300 score and over $850 in winnings!!

Without any further ado let’s dig into today’s 10-game slate.

I am primarily a cash/hybrid player but even that requires some stacking. So, I list my favorite and then I take the pieces from those stacks that fit my lineup construction. Unlike last season, I will put my stacks, D-men, and goalies in order of my preference.

NHL FORWARDS

FLA PP1 – Huberdeau, Barkov, Dadonov: These guys are all together on the first line too and they have scored 11 goals in the last 10 games and five goals in the last three games. They also have a great PP matchup. If you are using the PP stack you can add Keith Yandle or if you want the 5 v 5 stack, use Aaron Ekblad. Ben Bishop has been very good lately but I think FLA is skilled enough to make this a long night in Dallas.

CGY PP1 – Tkachuk Backlund, Gaudreau: This is a combination of two of the hottest lines in the league that have eight combined goals in the last three games. CBJ has been improved quite a bit defensively but I’m willing to ride the hot hand here.

NSH 3 – Smith, Sissons, Jarnkrok: This is my sneaky stack of the night. They have 3 goals in the last three games and TOR 2 and TOR 4 have each given up four goals over the last three games and Freddy Andersen has been struggling. NSH 1 is also in play, but If you use this line you can stack virtually any stud line you want around them.

Other stacks

TOR 1  – Marner, Tavares, Hyman
CBJ 2  – Anderson, Duchene, Dzingel
NSH 1 – Forsberg, Johansen, Arvidsson
STL 2 – Thomas, Bozak, Maroon
CAR 2 – Teravainen, Staal, Svechnikov
PIT 2 – McCann, Crosby Guentzel
MTL 2 – Tatar, Danault, Gallagher
PHI 1 and PHI 2 both lines are rolling and MTL is can’t keep the puck out of their own net
WSH 2 – Vrana, Backstrom, Oshie

DFS Studs on DEFENSE

Weber: I am expecting a lot of goals in this game, neither team is doing much on the defensive end and both can score in bunches. I don’t normally like a ping-pong with D men, but I think starting with Weber and Gostisbehere is a way to ensure a lot of points (both averaging over 18 FD points over their last 5)

Severson: NJ has been really bad and likely will continue to be but Damon Severson has been sneaky hot and makes a nice pivot off Holtby chalk. He is only a one-off for me, there’s not enough talent left in NJ to warrant a stack unless you are stacking every single team.

Carlson: He is on another level offensively right now, averaging 25 FD points a game over his last 5, up from a 20 pt avg over his last 10. WSH has tremendous upside and Carlson will be a big part of their success tonight.

Honorable Mentions: Josi, Barrie, Rielly, Werenski, Parayko, Klefbom, Dunn, Muzzin

GOALIES Set to Bring Value

**All stats are over the last three weeks unless otherwise noted**

Blues Goalie: There are not many confirmations at the time of this writing, but Binnington and Allen both have very similar numbers over the last three weeks and they are at home against a middling Oilers team. Obviously, McJesus, Draisaitl, and RNH are solid plays. But this is a one-line team and STL is starting to heat back up offensively. I prefer Allen getting the start (I didn’t expect to say that 2 months ago), but Binni shouldn’t have trouble winning this game either. ALL FORMATS

Grubauer: 2-2-0/0.99/0.959 He has fantastic numbers lately but there is a very good chance that Varly gets the start here. I don’t mind Varly here but Grub has been incredible and should stay between the pipes unless they are trying to tank. Minnesota is maddening, they are middle of the road in every statistic and can still make a playoff push. Grub is safe for all formats and Varly is GPP only.

Holtby: 6-2-0/2.25/0.914 NJ is in the bottom for of the league in GF/SF and HD chances for. So, NJ is terrible lately and Holtby is in playoff form. He will carry some significant ownership, but he’s been terrific.

Honorable Mentions: Bishop, Rask, Murray/Desmith, Mrazek, Hart

GOAL PREDICTION: Craig Smith

Remember guys, always confirm the starters after Morning Skate.
