DFS Madness’s Strategy for Winning NBA Tiers Lineups on Draftkings – Mar. 10th, 2019

Welcome to the DFS Army Draftkings Tiers breakdown! The Tiers breakdown will consist of a breakdown of all six tiers on Draftkings and why you should or shouldn’t play some of these guys! My name is Michael aka @MadnessDFS on Twitter, make sure to give me a follow as I’ll occasionally make updates to the article and just because I like to think I’m a great Twitter follow (high hopes). But, you’ll mostly find me in our VIP coaching forums where I provide detailed lineup maneuvers and answer all lineup questions. With that said, let’s get it started!

Tier One:

I would be shocked if Karl-Anthony Towns is available today, and it looks like the Domination Station agrees with me. So, tier one comes down between James Harden and Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Domination Station likes Harden by a decent gap of five points. Giannis actually draws the better matchup, as the Spurs rank 21st in defense against opposing small forwards, but it’s hard to put a position on Giannis. The thing that stands out to me is that Giannis scored nearly 75 Draftkings points against the Spurs earlier this season. Meanwhile, James Harden has matched up against the Mavericks three times and is averaging 65.6 per game. I tend to go with the bigger sample size, I don’t have a strong opinion here, so I’ll side with the Domination Station and go with James Harden.

The NBA Research Stationis my #1 source for research every single day and is one of the VIP Only tools our members have access to daily. The info in the NBA ReSearch Station includes today’s 📊 DFS Army Projection, Adjusted DVP matchups and much more. This tool will cut your daily research time in half. If you’re familiar with CeeGee and Ben you already know the time they’ve put into the “Sheets” and are extremely happy to provide them as apart of your DFS Army VIP Membership this year.

Tier Two:

Luke Doncic draws the best matchup in this tier from a DvP standpoint, as the Rockets rank 21st against opposing point guards on the season. However, I’m always hesitant in targeting point guards against Chris Paul defense, so take that as you will. Kevin Durant and Steph Curry draw an incredible matchup with the lousy Suns, but the problem here is the game has a 16 point spread. Durant and Curry will be the first ones off the court in a blowout. Normally, I would discount a potential blowout because the game would likely blowout because of the stars, but Golden State has so many guys that can blow this Suns team out, I would leave Durant and Curry for GPP. It also wouldn’t surprise me to see one or two of the Warriors stars sit here, keep an eye on the Breaking News Feed. That leaves Nikola Vucevic, who doesn’t exactly draw an exciting matchup against the Grizzlies. He and Doncic are probably the safest plays in this tier, whereas Curry and Durant have the most upside.

Tier Three:

The Atlanta and New Orleans game is one that I’ll be actively targeting on this slate. The game has a projected 238 total with a low two-point spread. Julius Randle draws a great matchup, as the Hawks rank 24th in defense against opposing power forwards. Trae Youn is on the other side of the ball and is coming off a triple-double against the Brooklyn Nets last night. He draws a middle of the road matchup, but the pace of the game has me interested. Devin Booker will be needed if this game is going to stay at all close, but is only averaging 38 Draftkings points per game in two matchups with the Warriors this season. DeMar DeRozan scored 50+ fantasy points in an earlier matchup with the Bucks, who tend to struggle with opposing two guards. LaMarcus Aldridge isn’t someone I have a whole lot of interest in for cash but makes some sense for GPP.

Tier Four:

John Collins had a massive game last night against the Nets, scoring 64 fantasy points. I like him quite a bit here, as the Pelicans rank 22nd against opposing power forwards on the season. DeMarcus Cousins is a lot like Curry and Durant, I’m fine with him in GPPs because of the amazing matchup, but the blowout is keeping me off of him in cash games. Chris Paul draws an excellent matchup against the Mavericks, who only rank 11th against opposing point guards, but have been giving up big game after big game to them. Chris Paul is averaging 42 fantasy points in two matchups with them this season. Clint Capela is a fine GPP play if you want to get more exposure to that game. Mike Conley continues to play well, he’s gone over 50 fantasy points in two straight games. The Magic rank 24th in defense against opposing point guards, making Conley very playable in this tier. Khris Middleton is a decent GPP play for me, but not someone I’m prioritizing.

Tier Five:

Kelly Oubre has averaged 36 Draftkings points in two matchups against the Warriors this season, he makes for an elite GPP play and definitely playable for cash. Klay Thompson draws the best matchup in this tier, as the Suns rank 29th against opposing shooting guards on the season. Given the tier and his recent form, I’m willing to play Klay in all formats. Point guards against the Spurs right? Eric Bledsoe draws a great matchup today, he scored 45 fantasy points on this Spurs team earlier this season. With DeAndre Jordan back in the rotation, Mitchell Robinson’s production has come back down to earth, making him a GPP play only. Aaron Gordon draws a rough matchup against the slow Grizzlies, I don’t see a need to go there today. Dwight Powell is finally getting 30+ minutes a night and producing well with them. He’s gone over 30 fantasy points in three of his last four games. Jonas Valaniunas and DeAndre Ayton make for good GPP plays but I don’t need them for cash purposes.

Tier Six:

Andrew Wiggins was out last night and on a back-to-back, it’s a situation to monitor. Make sure to keep an eye on the Breaking News Feed here. Elfrid Payton draws an incredible matchup against the Hawks who rank dead last against point guards on the season. With Jrue Holiday out for a while, Payton sees a 22.3% usage rant and a little over 1.1 fantasy points per minute. He’s been getting a consistent 30 minutes as of late and is one of my favorite plays from this tier. Draymond Green should be able to rack up a bunch of peripheral stats against the turnover-prone Suns today, putting him firmly in play in tier six. Derrick White draws a tough matchup against Eric Bledsoe defense, so I don’t see a need to go there today. Rudy Gay is in the same boat and is currently questionable for tonight’s game. Dennis Smith is a decent play here, but the minutes are all over the place, as they are with most of the Knicks, but he’s a great GPP play. DeAndre Jordan and Jeff Teague are decent plays if you want exposure to this game, but nobody I’m prioritizing.
