Flynnie’s Forecheck – NHL DFS Advice for Fanduel and Draftkings

Flynnie’s Forecheck for 2/21/19

We’re back!! After a long off-season of watching the greatest love story since Romeo and Juliet – obviously, I’m talking about Alex Ovechkin’s love affair with the Stanley Cup – it’s time to play some hockey. For those of you that are new to the DFS Army, my name is Rob Flynn. I’m an NHL DFS writer and coach inside the DFS Army. We have the best articles, coaching and tools in the industry. But let me tell you, the real money is made in the Slack chat that only our  VIP’s have access to. That’s where we talk through a member’s lineup construction, thought process or just answer any DFS questions they may have. Every coach is very accessible and willing to share our own processes to help every member grow as a player.

I wrote an article describing some of my process and some tips to win. Check it out here. We also have a brand new Research Station that is only available to VIP’s but here is the tutorial, to give you guys a taste of what’s coming this season.  When you sign up to become a member, use promo code PUCK to give yourself 20% off for the life of your membership.

NHL DFS is very similar to DFS MLB. The volatility can be maddening, the floor of every player is ZERO and you need stacking in all contests. In cash games you need at least two players that correlate on either the scoring line or power play, to hopefully grab the goal and an assist. In GPP’s you need to stack up the entire line and hope that line goes off for multiple goals.

Take a peek at our latest winner.  DFSA is on fire over NBA All Star Break and would love to help you learn the game of hockey, as well!  Whether you are already a VIP or are just passing by, our coaches can teach the rookie and veteran alike.  Congrats to Handleyrs for a near 300 score and over $850 in winnings!!

Without any further ado let’s dig into today’s 11-game slate.

I am primarily a cash/hybrid player but even that requires some stacking. So, I list my favorite and then I take the pieces from those stacks that fit my lineup construction. Unlike last season, I will put my stacks, D-men, and goalies in order of my preference.

NHL FORWARDS

TB 2 – Kucherov, Point, Johnson: After a late scratch the two nights ago for missing a team meeting, it looks like Point will be back on this line and there is enough value on this slate that you can jam Kuch in all formats. This is a situation that in GPP’s you’ll want all three guys. I know Kuch will be chalky as hell but he has 50+ point upside that he shows repeatedly, Point isn’t too far behind him, but not many will be on Tyler Johnson, so stack up that whole line and have fun.

PHI 2 – Voracek, Couturier, Lindblom: MTL has really struggled defensively lately, especially their top line. With MTL being favored at home and Philly having a low ITT of only 2.8, I expect these guys to go overlooked and especially in GPPs I think that is a mistake.

PIT 1 – Guentzel, Crosby, Rust: They will be the chalkiest stack on the night, I believe. This game should shoot out and you will likely need pieces from both sides to do well tonight. This line should live up to the chalk. They have scored six goals in the last ten games and three goals in the last three. They will likely use their last change advantage to target SJ 2 which has been bleeding goals lately: eight in the last ten and four in the last three.

Other expensive stacks

SJ 1 – Pavelski, Couture, Meier
PIT 2 – Aston-Reese, Malkin, Kessel – I expect ZAR to be one of the highest owned players on the entire slate. Great in cash, fade in GPP
STL 1 – Tarasenko, O’Reilly, Schenn
CAR 1 – Niederreiter, Aho, Williams
FLA 1 – Vatrano, Barkov, Huberdeau
TOR 1 – Marner, Tavares, Hyman
WSH 1 – Ovechkin, Kuznetsov, Wilson
NSH 1 – Arvidsson, Johansen, Forsberg – Arvidsson didn’t skate this morning, watch that news
NYR 1 – Zuccarello, Zibanejad, Kreider – Watch the Zucc news

Filler Stack

STL 2 – Schwartz, Bozak, Steen – sneaky better matchup than STL 1
OTT 2 – Stone, White, Tkachuk – I’m hearing rumors of Stone sitting, so be aware. I will update in slack
NJ 1 – Bratt, Hischier, Johansson – SUPER VALUE stack
MIN 3 – Donato, Eriksson Ek, Kunin – DEEP GPP

Maybe prop bets are your thing, too?  We are quickly expanding coverage into the different realms of sportsbetting!

DFS Studs on DEFENSE

**Burns, Karlsson, Letang and Josi are in play, no need to write them up**

Pulock – I’m going right back to the well here. He’s too cheap

Sanheim: Another one who is way too cheap. He doesn’t get any PP which hurts him a little, he is a solid cash play, but I prefer Gostisbehere in GPP

Pietrangelo: I expect a lot from STL tonight and Pietro has been involved in everything lately.

Honorable Mentions: Parayko, Provorov, Spurgeon, Carlson, Weber, Chabot, Rielly, Toews, Larsson, Cernak/Sergachev (if Hedman sits again)

GOALIES Set to Bring Value

Binnington: 8-0-0/1.36/0.949 over the last three weeks. He is a dream match-up against the Stars, who can’t score and over the last 5-6 they have been bleeding goals. Binni is going to cost you but he is one of the safer options on this slate. This kid has a great shot at a shutout and I do not like to predict those. ALL FORMATS

Rinne: 3-3-0/2.41/0.919 over the last three weeks. He will likely carry a lot of ownership because he has the highest money line at -221 and LAK has the lowest ITT on the slate at 2.2 goals. Pekka has won 3 of his last 5 and seems to have turned the corner after a brutal start to the season and his price is still cheap enough at $8400 on FanDuel. CASH

Vasilevskiy: 6-1-2/1.63/0.946 His numbers are crazy, his price is crazy, and his team has forgotten how to lose. Buffalo isn’t shooting or scoring a lot lately, but TB is giving up a fair amount of shots over the last three weeks so he is an ALL FORMAT play for me if you can afford him.

Honorable Mentions: Lehner, Andersen, Hart, Lundqvist, Reimer, Mrazek/McElhinney (no confirmation yet), Markstrom, Schneider (only if Stone and Duchene sit for OTT)

GOAL PREDICTION: Sean Couturier
