Flynnie’s Forecheck – NHL DFS Advice for Fanduel and Draftkings

Flynnie’s Forecheck for 2/14/19

We’re back!! After a long off-season of watching the greatest love story since Romeo and Juliet – obviously, I’m talking about Alex Ovechkin’s love affair with the Stanley Cup – it’s time to play some hockey. For those of you that are new to the DFS Army, my name is Rob Flynn. I’m an NHL DFS writer and coach inside the DFS Army. We have the best articles, coaching and tools in the industry. But let me tell you, the real money is made in the Slack chat that only our  VIP’s have access to. That’s where we talk through a member’s lineup construction, thought process or just answer any DFS questions they may have. Every coach is very accessible and willing to share our own processes to help every member grow as a player.

I wrote an article describing some of my process and some tips to win. Check it out here. We also have a brand new Research station that is only available to VIP’s but here is the tutorial, to give you guys a taste of what’s coming this season.  When you sign up to become a member, use promo code PUCK to give yourself 10% off for the life of your membership.

NHL DFS is very similar to DFS MLB. The volatility can be maddening, the floor of every player is ZERO and you need stacking in all contests. In cash games you need at least two players that correlate on either the scoring line or power play, to hopefully grab the goal and an assist. In GPP’s you need to stack up the entire line and hope that line goes off for multiple goals.

Without any further ado let’s dig into today’s 11-game slate.

I am primarily a cash/hybrid player but even that requires some stacking. So, I list my favorite and then I take the pieces from those stacks that fit my lineup construction. Unlike last season, I will put my stacks, D-men and goalies in order of my preference.

FORWARDS

CHI PP1 – Kane, Strome, Debrincat: Those are my top three on this unit, but you can throw in Toews or Gustafsson. CHI’s top two lines are rolling right now and NJ’s penalty kill is awful and CHI has the #1 PP over the last 4 weeks. This gives you access to both lines and the PP, I’m okay with it in any combination. Dylan Strome is still too cheap, just play him.

SJ 2 – Kane, Hertl, Donskoi: They have seven goals over the last 10, and four goals over the last three and get to match up with the Ovechkin line. Like I told Matt on our podcast: “if you don’t play Evander Kane, you’re doing it wrong”.

MTL 2 – Domi, Tatar, Shaw: I think they will match up with Johanson’s line that has been bleeding goals. I believe most of MTL’s ownership will be on the Gallagher/Drouin line. While they are the hottest line on the team and one of the hottest in the league, I think they will draw Nick Bonino defense and be limited. I’m okay with either of them as a cash one off but MTL 2 is the higher upside line stack.

Honorable Mention: STL 1, STL 2 (sneaky matchup – Bozak in all formats), Tor 2 (It’s a Matthews night, I think), WPG 1, VGK 1, CBJ 1, CBJ 2, TB 2

We crush all sports, pro or college

DEFENSE

Burns: He is only in play if Karlsson sits again. His floor and ceiling are massive if he is the only star defenseman. Otherwise, he and Karlsson take value away from each other and they become over priced.

Weber: I love him as a one off or in a stack with either MTL 1 or 2 stack. He also has the former team narrative tonight. I think he’s a good play regardless of the narrative.

Subban: He was traded for Weber, so he has the former team narrative tonight too. Also he is now running point on the PP, bumping Josi. He is shooting a ton recently, it hasn’t translated to fantasy points yet, but I still think he makes a great low owned GPP play.

Honorable Mentions: Rielly, Pietrangelo, Parayko, Jones, Oesterle, Pulock, Lindell, Jensen, Lindell, Brodie, Myers, Greene, Barrie, Stecher,

Our long-time VIP Joker Wins took down a GPP and had two other top-10 finishes

GOALIES

Vasilevskiy: 4-2-2/2.45/0.922 over the last month and comes into this game against an anemic Dallas offense and carries a -190 money line. His $9400 price tag is going to be tough to fit but he is one of the safest option on this slate. ALL FORMATS

Binnington: 7-1-0/1.99/0.921 His price has come up to $8000 on FanDuel and is on the road tonight. Arizona’s offense has been playing much better of late and they shoot a ton. Binnington would be a lot more cash viable if he were at home. LEAN GPP

Hellebuyck: 6-2-1/2.85/0.924 He also carries a -190 and is almost $1000 less than Vasil. I love the match up here, but the fact that it is Connor Hellebuyck scares me. Colorado is a dumpster fire but they can score in bunches and WPG can give them up. I still like this spot because WPG is in the top-5 in scoring over the last 4 weeks and COL shoots a lot, giving Bucky a huge ceiling. HYBRID

Honorable Mention: Lehner, Bobrovsky (actually playing well lately), Andersen, Nilsson, Price, Mazanec (goalies that aren’t in the FD player pool are a thing – DK GPP only)

GOAL PREDICTION: Evander Kane
