Flynnie’s Forecheck – NHL DFS Advice for Fanduel and Draftkings

Flynnie’s Forecheck for 2/7/19

We’re back!! After a long off-season of watching the greatest love story since Romeo and Juliet – obviously, I’m talking about Alex Ovechkin’s love affair with the Stanley Cup – it’s time to play some hockey. For those of you that are new to the DFS Army, my name is Rob Flynn. I’m an NHL DFS writer and coach inside the DFS Army. We have the best articles, coaching and tools in the industry. But let me tell you, the real money is made in the Slack chat that only our  VIP’s have access to. That’s where we talk through a member’s lineup construction, thought process or just answer any DFS questions they may have. Every coach is very accessible and willing to share our own processes to help every member grow as a player.

I wrote an article describing some of my process and some tips to win. Check it out here. We also have a brand new Research station that is only available to VIP’s but here is the tutorial, to give you guys a taste of what’s coming this season.  When you sign up to become a member, use promo code PUCK to give yourself 10% off for the life of your membership.

NHL DFS is very similar to DFS MLB. The volatility can be maddening, the floor of every player is ZERO and you need stacking in all contests. In cash games you need at least two players that correlate on either the scoring line or power play, to hopefully grab the goal and an assist. In GPP’s you need to stack up the entire line and hope that line goes off for multiple goals.

Without any further ado let’s dig into today’s 14-game slate.

I am primarily a cash/hybrid player but even that requires some stacking. So, I list my favorite and then I take the pieces from those stacks that fit my lineup construction. Unlike last season, I will put my stacks, D-men and goalies in order of my preference.

FORWARDS

CAR 1 – Aho, Niedereitter, Williams: Three of the hottest skaters in the league, seven goals in the last 10 vs four goals in the last three, and they get a juicy matchup against Linus Ullmark and the Buffalo Sabres. Aho and Nino are all format plays for me, and I would save Williams for GPP, although I won’t argue with you if you play him in a hybrid type of lineup.

MTL 1 – Drouin, Danault, Gallagher: I expect a lot of fireworks in this game. This line should match-up with Patrik Laine’s line (much worse defensively than WPG 1) and they should continue their hot streak of six goals in the last ten and three goals in the last three. Gallagher is one of my favorite plays on this slate and I promise he is in my cash lineup. Jonathan Drouin is right behind him in terms of production and definitely worth a look in all formats.

STL 1 – Tarasenko, O’Reilly, Schenn – These three have five goals over their last three games and should match up with Stamkos’ line who has given up five goals in the last ten. This line will go overlooked. Vasil has been terrific in net, but he is prone to a blow up. However!! ROR is cash safe on this slate. Keep the other two for GPP stacks.

Honorable Mention: PIT 1, WPG 1, CHI 1, NSH 1, NSH 3, WSH 1, CGY 1, CGY 3, MIN 1, LAK 1, DET 1 (if Larkin plays)

We crush all sports, pro or college

DEFENSE

Klefbom – He’s only in his second game back from injury. Until FanDuel gives him a real price, I’m going to play him. $3800 is too cheap for the talent he has.

Burns: He might be tough to fit tonight. But in a game I expect to shootout, the best player on the Sharks should be considered. As long as Karlsson is out, Burns is safe in all formats.

Spurgeon: MIN has a huge ITT tonight and I do like them. But, Koivu’s injury has changed a lot. Spurgeon has been one of the more consistent Wild players and is in consideration tonight, but GPP only.

Honorable Mentions: Giordano, Letang, Trouba, Sanheim, Gudas, Gustafsson (heating back up), Hedman, Dunn, Suter, Josi, Ellis, Doughty

Our long-time VIP Joker Wins took down a GPP and had two other top-10 finishes

GOALIES

Stolarz: He only has a one-game sample since being called up, but that one game was a 38-save shutout against the New York Rangers. Tonight he goes up against a Kings team that is struggling in virtually every offensive category over the last month – BUT they have scored nine goals in the last two games. Stolarz is min salary at $7000 on FD, he got a decent price bump on DK though ($8000). Just eat the chalk here and be different in your stacks. It’s a massive slate, don’t worry about ownership.

Lehner: 5-2-1/1.62/0.942 over the last month. He’s coming off a loss two nights ago in Boston and that may scare some people off him. He’s playing behind one of the best defensive teams in the league and going against a Devils team that is middle of the pack in goals and shots. If Greiss happens to get the start, he is in play too.

Vasilevskiy: 5-3-1/1.89/0.940 He is a much bigger favorite against the Blues than I would have ever thought. This game reminds me a lot of the BOS-NYI game from Tuesday night, Both teams are good in both zones and two hot goalies going at each other. This has the makings of a 2-1 game where even the losing goalie will still do well for you.

Honorable Mention: Saros (border-line cash), Binnington (See Vasil – just way cheaper and an underdog), Price (hot goalie vs hot offense – GPP only), Nilsson (Surprisingly playing well against ANA who can’t beat anyone), McElhinney (GPP only)

GOAL PREDICTION: Brendan Gallagher
