Flynnie’s Forecheck for 1/22/19
We’re back!! After a long off-season of watching the greatest love story since Romeo and Juliet – obviously, I’m talking about Alex Ovechkin’s love affair with the Stanley Cup – it’s time to play some hockey. For those of you that are new to the DFS Army, my name is Rob Flynn. I’m an NHL DFS writer and coach inside the DFS Army. We have the best articles, coaching and tools in the industry. But let me tell you, the real money is made in the Slack chat that only our VIP’s have access to. That’s where we talk through a member’s lineup construction, thought process or just answer any DFS questions they may have. Every coach is very accessible and willing to share our own processes to help every member grow as a player.
I wrote an article describing some of my process and some tips to win. Check it out here. We also have a brand new Research station that is only available to VIP’s but here is the tutorial, to give you guys a taste of what’s coming this season. NHL DFS is very similar to DFS MLB. The volatility can be maddening, the floor of every player is ZERO and you need stacking in all contests. In cash games you need at least two players that correlate on either the scoring line or power play, to hopefully grab the goal and an assist. In GPP’s you need to stack up the entire line and hope that line goes off for multiple goals.
Without any further ado let’s dig into today’s 5-game slate.
I am primarily a cash/hybrid player but even that requires some stacking. So, I list my favorite and then I take the pieces from those stacks that fit my lineup construction. Unlike last season, I will put my stacks, D-men and goalies in order of my preference.
FORWARDS
CGY 1 – Gaudreau, Monahan, Lindholm: Ten goals in the last ten games and going against Mrazek who is #notgood. They will be chalky, but all three are cash viable. There might be a little revenge on Lindholm’s mind since he played for Carolina last season.
DET 2: Vanek, Mantha, Nielsen: They’ve scored seven goals in the last ten games and three in the last three. Vanek is on one of his heaters, he is a very boom or bust player and he is scorching hot right now, Mantha is by far the safest of the three and I would only use Nielsen to complete stacks – even then I probably prefer to have that third player be Mike Green.
SJ 3 – Hertl, Kane, Donskoi: This is the hottest line in the league over the last ten games and this game should be a shootout since neither team plays defense, neither goalie has been good either. Since I can’t gauge where the scoring is going to come from I prefer this to be a game stack only.
Honorable Mention: CAR 2, NYI 1, CAR 1, OTT 1, NYI 2, DET 1, EDM 1, ARI PP1, CHI PP1, SJ2, WSH 1

DEFENSE
Giordano: He has a great matchup against Carolina. He will not go over looked. The world knows how hot he’s been. He has a great floor, even better ceiling and he’s been hotter over his last 5 than over his last 10. I love seeing the upward trends. I think a lot of people go to Burns at the top of the salary, but he has been on a decline – still a great matchup, but Gio’s matchup and ceiling is better.
Oesterle: He has been off the radar and warming up. He becomes close to an all-in play for me at $4k if Jakob Chychrun is ruled out, he is a GTD now. I expect Oesterle to get the bump to the top PP unit if Chychrun is out along with the steady ice time he gets with ARI 2 and 3.
Green: I like DET a lot tonight and our guys over at Beat the Bookie know why. Green is trending up over his last 5 and will be sure to lower owned (well, 5-game slate low owned).
Honorable Mentions: Brodie, Ceci, Slavin, OEL, Carlson
Our long-time VIP Joker Wins took down a GPP and had two other top-10 finishes
GOALIES
Lehner: He has been unstoppable lately 7-1-0/1.63/0.940 over the last three weeks. the Isles are scoring at a top-10 clip and also defending at a top-10 clip. CHI doesn’t shoot a lot, so his ceiling may be limited but he is far and away the safest goalie for all formats tonight.
Rittich: 6-0-1/3.12/0.896 over the last three weeks. He scares me for how chalky I believe he will be. The Flames are winning quite a bit, so I think the win is safe here, but he might get a 5-4 win and still not hit value for you. I would keep him to GPP only
Kuemper: 5-0-2/2.08/0.928 coming off a huge win over the Leafs. I generally don’t like road underdogs but tonight it’s hard to deny how good Kuemper has been and I believe this is going to be a low scoring game.
Honorable Mention: Anderson, Howard
GOAL PREDICTION: Anthony Mantha
