Flynnie’s Forecheck – NHL DFS Advice for Fanduel and Draftkings

Flynnie’s Forecheck for 1/10/19

We’re back!! After a long off-season of watching the greatest love story since Romeo and Juliet – obviously, I’m talking about Alex Ovechkin’s love affair with the Stanley Cup – it’s time to play some hockey. For those of you that are new to the DFS Army, my name is Rob Flynn. I’m an NHL DFS writer and coach inside the DFS Army. We have the best articles, coaching and tools in the industry. But let me tell you, the real money is made in the Slack chat that only our  VIP’s have access to. That’s where we talk through a member’s lineup construction, thought process or just answer any DFS questions they may have. Every coach is very accessible and willing to share our own processes to help every member grow as a player.

I wrote an article describing some of my process and some tips to win. Check it out here. We also have a brand new Research station that is only available to VIP’s but here is the tutorial, to give you guys a taste of what’s coming this season.  When you sign up to become a member, use promo code PUCK to give yourself 10% off for the life of your membership.

NHL DFS is very similar to DFS MLB. The volatility can be maddening, the floor of every player is ZERO and you need stacking in all contests. In cash games you need at least two players that correlate on either the scoring line or power play, to hopefully grab the goal and an assist. In GPP’s you need to stack up the entire line and hope that line goes off for multiple goals.

Without any further ado let’s dig into today’s 12-game slate.

I am primarily a cash/hybrid player but even that requires some stacking. So, I list my favorite and then I take the pieces from those stacks that fit my lineup construction. Unlike last season, I will put my stacks, D-men and goalies in order of my preference.

FORWARDS

TB 2 – Kucherov, Johnson, Point – These guys have 11 goals over their last 10 games and four in their last 3. They are the hottest line on the team with the highest ITT tonight. Also CAR is nothing special on the defensive end. I think this group will get some ownership but Point and Kuch are expensive, so you will have to find savings elsewhere.

SJ 3- Kane, Donskoi, Hertl – These guys are rolling right now with nine goals in the last 10 and six of those in the last three games. VGK is decent defensively but their third line is their weakness. Look for SJ to try to take advantage of that matchup. On the flip side of that VGK 1 (Pacioretty, Marchessault, Karlsson) will want to go after SJ 2 bc that is their leaky line.

DAL 1 – Seguin, Benn, Radulov – Good things happen when these three are together, I would keep Benn for GPP only but the other two are cash viable and Seguin is my favorite center on the night.

Honorable Mention: NYI 1, NSH 1, NYI 2, TOR 1, TOR 2, STL 2, NSH 2

DEFENSE

Klingberg – I honestly think Dallas goes overlooked tonight. They shouldn’t! Kling is doing what he does: racking up goals, assists and shots on goal. He has been trending up for a while now but his last 5 is incredible compared to his last 10. Get on this train before his price shoots up. At only $6100 on FD he is still very affordable.

Edler – According to our research station he is in the top 3 in BSSOG and avg FD points over the last 10 games. I say it all the time, he is the most consistent source of fantasy points on defense in the league. He rarely shows GPP upside but he is cash gold.

Pulock – He offers a very solid floor on a team I think will put up a lot of goals tonight. He is also cheap enough to allow you to pay up for studs at forward.

Honorable Mentions: Burns, Ekholm, Josi Parayko, Boychuk, Petry, Hedman

Our long-time VIP Joker Wins took down a GPP and had two other top-10 finishes

GOALIES

Khudobin – I expect quite a bit of ownership here, but it’s a massive slate don’t worry about it. He has a 3-1-0/0.98/0.973 stat line over the last three weeks. If you pair those numbers up with Philly being one of the worst scoring teams and the #2 team in shots on goal over that same time, you have a recipe for a big night from Khudobin. He is also way too cheap.

Vasilevskiy – As always, he is very expensive but using the goalie against the Hurricanes is a solid GPP move most of the time. The Canes shoot a ton, but TB should win this game pretty handily (at least that’s what Vegas is telling us with the -195 money line). He is too expensive for me in cash games though.

Lehner –  6-0-0/1.25/0.956 over the last three weeks and should be a much larger favorite than he actually is. NYR doesn’t shoot or score very much lately, and all Lehner does is win. He has only given up seven goals in his last six games.

Honorable Mention: Fleury, Saros, Quick

GOAL PREDICTION: Max Pacioretty
