Flynnie’s Forecheck – NHL DFS Advice for FanDuel and DraftKings 12/20

Flynnie’s Forecheck for 12/20/18

We’re back!! After a long off-season of watching the greatest love story since Romeo and Juliet – obviously, I’m talking about Alex Ovechkin’s love affair with the Stanley Cup – it’s time to play some hockey. For those of you that are new to the DFS Army, my name is Rob Flynn. I’m an NHL DFS writer and coach inside the DFS Army. We have the best articles, coaching and tools in the industry. But let me tell you, the real money is made in the Slack chat that only our  VIP’s have access to. That’s where we talk through a member’s lineup construction, thought process or just answer any DFS questions they may have. Every coach is very accessible and willing to share our own processes to help every member grow as a player.

I wrote an article describing some of my process and some tips to win. Check it out here. We also have a brand new Research station that is only available to VIP’s but here is the tutorial, to give you guys a taste of what’s coming this season.  When you sign up to become a member, use promo code PUCK to give yourself 10% off for the life of your membership.

NHL DFS is very similar to DFS MLB. The volatility can be maddening, the floor of every player is ZERO and you need stacking in all contests. In cash games you need at least two players that correlate on either the scoring line or power play, to hopefully grab the goal and an assist. In GPP’s you need to stack up the entire line and hope that line goes off for multiple goals.

Without any further ado let’s dig into today’s 4-game slate.

I am primarily a cash/hybrid player but even that requires some stacking. So, I list my favorite and then I take the pieces from those stacks that fit my lineup construction. Unlike last season, I will put my stacks, D-men and goalies in order of my preference.

FORWARDS

SJ1 – Couture, Hertl, Meier – All three have showed a very solid floor over the last 10 games and WPG is in the bottom third of the league in goals allowed and shots allowed. I would recommend pairing one or two of these guys with Karlsson or Burns in cash and in GPP stack up 4 of the 5.

TOR 1 – Matthews, Kapanen, Johnsson – These guys have scored six goals in the last 10 and haven’t allowed any. They also have the highest implied total on the night. You will need a part of Toronto tonight and the value on this line makes it easier to afford than the Tavares/Marner line.

CGY 1  – Lindholm, Gaudreau, Monahan – Tampa’s top 2 lines are giving up a ton of goals (15 goals in the last 10 games) and this line is rolling. They have not been very consistent so this is not a cash safe stack, but it is one of my favorites for GPP’s. Matt Tkachuk is also in play tonight, in a PP stack.

FLA 1 – Huberdeau, Dadonov, Barkov – Similar to CGY 1, they are rolling but they have a tough matchup. although I think this game is much more likely to shoot out.

Honorable Mention: Since this is VIP only – I will give you some one offs or mini stacks I like in cash/hybrid tonight:

Larkin/Nyquist

Boeser/Pettersson

Aho – cash lock

Kucherov

Stamkos

Scheifele/Wheeler

Kase

Barzal

Pastrnak

Atkinson

DEFENSE

Karlsson – He is cheap goalie price and still worth it for how he’s playing right now. The Sharks are my #1 offense of the night and EK runs point on the PP too. If you want to save a few bucks, you can play Burns instead.

Giordano – I like CGY a lot tonight and Gio is rolling. He offers a safe floor and will be involved in the scoring if they are going to get through the tough TB defense – I think all Flames are better left for hybrid/GPP tonight, though.

Yandle – Florida is a sneaky offense tonight. I think they go over looked with Toronto’s 4.2 ITT, but Yandle is really hot right now along with a handful of other forwards. Toronto struggles on the defensive end, especially with Matthews back in the lineup.

Honorable Mentions: Edler, Josi, Jones, Letang, Trouba

Our long-time VIP Joker Wins took down a GPP and had two other top-10 finishes

GOALIES

Gibson – I usually don’t have a road underdog as my #1 goalie, but today this was an easy choice. Gibby is 7-1-0/2.39/0.929 over the last three weeks. The Ducks are rolling and have scored 34 goals as a team in the last 10 games. The Bruins are in the bottom third of the league in goals scored over the last three weeks but they are #3 in shots on goal, giving Gibby a very safe floor tonight.

Mrazek – Gross. He isn’t good, but lucky for him neither are the Red Wings. Over the last three weeks, he does have a 2-3-0/2.24/0.924 stat line and he is a -227 favorite on the money line. Carolina is playing good defense in front of him but they are struggling to score. I think the win is safe and if he doesn’t get the win he won’t kill your roster at his cheap price tag. (NOTE: If McElhinney gets the start, I’m okay with him in GPP’s but he has struggled a bit lately and he is banged up)

Andersen – He has been very good this season and his price tag shows it. At $9300, I don’t think I can justify paying that. He will face a ton of shots but I think he lets a few past him. He should get the win but he is still risky.

Honorable Mention: Keumper, MAF, Bobrovsky, Bishop

GOAL PREDICTION: Sebastian Aho
