MME Playbook Pitching Pool for FanDuel and DraftKings

Pitchers Guidelines

I want to pick my favorite pitchers, normally somewhere between 3-4 and throw small amounts of “minimum exposure” on them. My goal is to fill up about 60% or so of my entire pitching pool with my choices. I normally like to set my global max for pitchers around 50% but again, this is a sliding scale based on the slate. A terrible night of pitching with no clear-cut front runners and it might be 40%. A night with several superb options I am okay with being at 60-75% max.

Pitching Pool for FanDuel and DraftKings:

Mike Fiers – Prior to his last game against the Mariners, Fiers had gone 24 IP, struck out 28 hitters, and given up just 4 ER. He was destroyed at home against Seattle at the end of August so that keeps Fiers as an MME pitcher only for me. He wasn’t very good before going to Oakland and there is always a chance that regression hits him hard.

Jordan Zimmerman – He’s super cheap and pitching well in August. In 6 August starts (35.2 IP), he has 27 Ks and has given up 9 HR and 15 ER. That doesn’t look good at all, but the home runs are mostly solo shots and that’s going to happen today as well. But he’s pumped out 4 games in the last 6 over 30+ FanDuel points and is just 5.8k over there. His DraftKings price isn’t as profitable in my opinion so I’ll withhold my exposure to him to just FD.

Tyler Glasnow – I love the spot he’s in on FanDuel. He’s only put 26 men on base in his last 30.2 innings pitched this August. He has 38Ks and is pounding the strike zone on 64% of his pitches over his last three starts (compared to his season-long average of 59%). He clearly has more command of his pitches right now.

Nick Pivetta – Game log watchers might not roll with him tonight but I think he’s in a great spot. Pivetta ripped the Marlins apart back on August 2nd over 6 IP, striking out 7 hitters and holding them to 2 ER. He’s been shelled in 2 of his last 3 starts but looked to regain control against the Cubs at home last week, going 5 IP, striking out 6, and giving up just a single earned run on a solo shot.

MME Playbook Stacks for FanDuel and DraftKings

Stacking Guidelines

I generally like to target my Tier 1 teams for about 75% of my total stacks; including with other Tier 1’s, in-game stacks, and mixed across Tier 2 stacks. The final 25% of my lineups will be some combination of game stacks not including Tier 1, larger team pool’s that are optimized together, and a fair amount of selecting the opposing pitcher against the chalk offenses of the night to hedge my own investments and leverage the field.

I prefer to run a 4-3 stack using our optimizer and allow the DS to select a one-off for each lineup based on the optimizer algorithm. Sometimes, in the case of someone like Justin Upton over this past week, I have given him a “like or love” click to ensure he shows up a bit more in this manner and in regards to any LAA team stacks. Example:

Tier 1 Stack Targets:

Pirates – Homer Bailey has given up 7 HRs and 19 ER (26 runs total) in his last 24.2 IP. He has allowed a 40% hard-hit rate in 2018 and a 92 MPH EV. Load up the Pirates lefties and righties. This is one of those spots you just don’t need to overthink.

Angels – Bartolo Colon is on the mound for the Rangers at home. This is another spot where you just need not overthink this one. Justin Upton possibly will be in the lineup tonight as well which only makes this lineup even more potent. I love Cahoun, Trout, Upton, Simmons, and Ward. I really don’t mind just using the team exposure though in pristine matchups like this one.

Rockies – Andrew Suarez is giving up fly-balls all over the field. In Coors Field, this is extremely dangerous. On top of that, he’s allowed a 40% hard-hit rate in 2018 with a 92 MPH EV. Those numbers are eerily similar to Homer Bailey’s. In 25 IP this August, he’s given up 5 HR and 16 ER. He seems to have been figured out. I love the RHH for the Rockies and would start any SE lineup with LeMahieu, Story, and Arenado. For MME, team exposure is the way to go because I think this one gets ugly.

Tier 2 Stack Targets:

Mariners – Andrew Cashner has been drilled in August. In 34 IP, he’s put 56 men on base and given up 25 ER. Yikes. He also only has 13 Ks in those 34 innings. The Mariners are going to dice him up with a plethora of hot bats. I would want to make sure Cano was in any stack I ran but I’m okay running out a simple team exposure.
