Kickin it on the Pitch w/ TreyJ – Gameweek 5 EPL DFS for Draftkings and Fanduel

This is a really exciting time to become a DFS Army VIP. It’s not just that NFL season is back and that is what brings the people to fantasy sports. It’s that in the DFS Army, we are never satisfied. We are always adding coaches and adding content and out-performing what we have previously done. Yes, we have always been that way, but it really gets accentuated at this time of the year when EPL, NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, and numerous other sports are converging. Speaking of adding content and out-performing what we have previously done, that brings me to why we are here. The international break is over and the EPL is back. With it, we will have a new feature, in addition to this article and Sniper’s Slide Tackle (VIP only). The article will be called “Holding the Midfield”. It will take a dive into bookmaker’s odds and see what’s true and what’s folly and how that will help us DFS-wise. It will be VIP-only so if crushing Premier League and every other DFS sport (or at least many of them) is your thing, then you want to get down with the army helmets.

This is a rather intriguing slate with a few ways you can go. We will be looking at the various builds in our slack chat so make sure you join and use that promo code to save yourself a little money. We have 6 games on the slate so let’s get to it.

Huddersfield v Crystal Palace

Huddersfield is bad. It will be a miracle if they don’t get relegated. That said, Crystal Palace without Wilfried Zaha is barely less hapless. Don’t get me wrong. They are better than Huddersfield without Zaha but he is the best they have when it comes to scoring. Keep an eye on the news. Zaha missed last game with an injury; and, while it is not expected to be serious, he isn’t a lock to play. This is the lowest total on the board, so outside of an occasional GPP one-off, I would stay away from the attack.

Bournemouth v Leicester

There is a bit to like on both sides and these sides couldn’t be more evenly matched. In the last 6 meetings for these squads, there have been 5 draws and all of them have come in under 2.5 goals. This match has that same feel but Bournemouth plays so fast at home that Leicester may need to match their intensity. I like this game for Ryan Fraser would normally be a staple in cash lineups but he picked up a knock in training and the extent of the injury is still being evaluated. Junior Stanislas could return from injury and Jordan Ibe has been waiting his turn on the sidelines. If Fraser cannot go, I would immediately turn to whichever of those two starts for him.  They will be a likely set-piece taker at a reduced price.

Chelsea v Cardiff

Cardiff was a solid Championship team but the new level of competition has seen them need to expend an enormous amount of energy on the defensive side of the ball. They have had a rough start to the season and it doesn’t seem like it will be any better for them on Saturday. You will want to consider Eden Hazard for cash if neither Fabregas nor Willian starts. With Willian in and out of the lineup and Fabregas returning from the injury report, Hazard has had a monopoly on the set piece activity. His game works for either site. Cardiff defenders are in play on Fanduel.

Time to pause for the cause…

With the supreme court ruling that sports betting is legal, the DFS Army has launched their “Beat the Bookie” site. This is where we have handicappers teaching members how to make bets as well as sharing their proven models. If you have ever wanted to try your hand at sports betting, it’s better to do it with the help of winners in your ear. We have teamed up with the site MyBookie. If you are a new user and deposit at least $50, you will get a free month of the Beat the Bookie service.

And we’re back!

Newcastle v Arsenal

Newcastle has been dealing with injuries and, while it’s not the whole story, they have been key injuries. They are still missing a big piece of their back line and that could prove to be big, considering where the Arsenal scoring has been coming from. I am intrigued to see how Arsenal lines up because it has been a full team effort under the new management and an opponent like Newcastle could see that same type of effort. If Ozil does not start, Henrikh Mkhitaryan is as safe as it gets on the Arsenal side of the ball. He also makes a pretty good partner in your gpp lineups with someone else in the very capable Arsenal attack. It is early but while Arsenal has figured out how to score goals on the road, they still concede them.  I do not expect that Arsenal keeps a clean.

Manchester City v Fulham

I like what Fulham have done so far. Give them more time and an easier opponent and I could start to believe that they are a threat to the top half. Their offense is just as potent as they were in Championship (adjusted for competition, of course), but their defense has gotten worse. If you’re a Fulham fan, that is probably not something you want to think about just yet. Stay in that bubble until first whistle because City is coming for you. The City offense has gotten worse and is still the best offense in the Premiership. It will be led by Sergio Aguero. There is your chalk of the day. I like him in all formats, nonetheless. If he is on the pitch, the ball will be fed to him. There is a case to be made for being underweight on him but I won’t be fading him in GPPs.  The spot is just too good.

Watford v Manchester United

This game is the one full of surprises. Watford is off to a roaring start and the Red Devils wish the season hadn’t already started. There were encouraging signs in the last two games. United beat a usually tough Burnley team but I suspect they were a little tired having played Europa two days before with basically the same players on short rest. Part of me feels that they were lucky to get Burnley when they did. Nevertheless, they got the victory and that could turn things around for them as everything is better when you’re winning. Well, this is another tough test for both squads. The players in this match in this match are quite viable in GPP, due to it being the late match of the day. Even normal cash players like Jose Holebas will be low-owned. This could be anyone’s match and I do like it for some fantasy points. I’ll have exposure, for sure.

That’s the game breakdown for this week. Remember, this is a top-level view and things can change. Of course, you know about the most important hour in the soccer DFS world. We will always have free content but the good stuff is saved for the ones who are willing to go the extra step. We will stand with you if you stand with us. Good luck this week!
