DFS College Football (CFB) for DraftKings 3 Game Slate Advice and Strategy 8/25/18

CashKeg has been my staple around the DFS community the last few years and I am excited to be able to part of the DFS Army’s CFB team.  Follow me on Twitter (@keg4540) and let’s talk some CFB and NFL this season at DFS Army!

CFB Season is upon us and DraftKings is giving us a nice little 3 game slate this Saturday to sink our teeth into!  I must say that this news is better than Christmas!  I absolutely love CFB and have missed it dearly the last 2 years.  It makes football season even sweeter now that we have both CFB and NFL this fall!  I am going to break down 4 of my favorite players on this 3 game slate that I think you should give a look this slate and also post a few screen shots of who is on top of the depth charts on each team as of tonight.  If completely new to the game, give my CFB research article a look.  I’ll give you a better grasp on where to find some of this CFB information before building your lineups.

Please feel free to chat with me in my slack channel about CFB and let me help you produce some screen shots like this one!  This was my first big GPP win, and probably why I fell headlong into college football coverage afterwards.  I can definitely help you grow your game.

Prarie View A&M @ Rice (-20) (Total 56.5)

Rice is going to be a dumpster fire this year, but they are playing a Div 1-AA team here in Prarie View A&M.  These schools are bringing on new coaches to the teams with Mike Bloomgren the new Rice coach who came over from Stanford.  He was the offensive coordinator there and as you know they run a pro style offense so I can see them running their big back Esukpa $6,900 (230 lbs) early and often here.  He would be my main target from Rice in a game that should run the ball right down the Panthers’ throats.  The chart below shows the number ones on the depth chart for Rice.  I also included a link to the Rice Preview article which shows how fired up Coach Bloomgren can get.

Rice Preview Article

Prarie View is a tiny DIV1-AA school out of Texas that has a new coach themselves in Eric Dooley who spend the last 4 years as Grambling State University’s offensive coordinator. As the offensive coordinator for Grambling, his teams averaged 31 points a game so he knows how to put points on the board.  The depth chart shows Jalen Morton (6-3, 230) as number one on the depth chart, but he was battling all summer with Lavell McCullers.  We will want to make sure Morton is starting, but at that price of $5000 he is worth a look for sure.  The 2 players I am most interested on this team, though, are RB Dawonya Tucker ($4,100) who has shown explosiveness in the spring and catching balls out of the backfield and WR Markus Hardy ($4,400) who are both SWAC 2nd team preseason honorees.  We also need to look at maybe a flyer on WR Tristan Wallace (6-3, 245) who is priced at the minimum of $3,000.  Dooley spoke highly of him and said he is looking for a big season from the transfer from Oregon State / Trinity Valley CC. The value is here with this team and Rice is no juggernaut itself, but how many points can they realistically put up?  I think this is where we might find our great value to make things come together.

Hawaii @ Colorado State (-14) (Total 56.5)

This game has the highest total on the small slate so you are going to want a piece of it.  Colorado State is the better team here and Hawaii will be playing on the road as an underdog and worrying about their family with the hurricane headed down on Hawaii right now. Cole McDonald appeared in 6 games last year as a red-shirt freshman and should get the starting nod here.  He is a bit more expensive than I want to go, but is worth a look if wanting to spend up.  I kind of want to spend down a bit though on this slate at QB. WR John Ursua ($10,300) is a stud but priced accordingly.  He only played 6 games last year due to an injury but was leading the nation in receiving yards and receptions (9.3) a game before he was hurt.  If you are going to spend up today, he is your guy and should see a ton of targets with a team playing from behind.

Running Back Preview

Colorado State has a gun slinger in QB Carta-Samuels ($10,800) 6-2, 225 pounder who transfered from Washington.  He is on the Johnny Unitas Golden Army Award watch list so you are paying for a stud here, but not sure they need a ton of him in this game.  He is def in play on this slate and the top QB on the board, but makes it tough in roster construction.  I think I prefer his teammate in RB Izzy Matthews ($7,200) a bit more.  He is on the 2018 Doak Walker Award list and was the leading rusher last season.  Izzy could see a lot of work if Colorado State gets up early and they just run down all over Hawaii.  My favorite WR out of the bunch is Tennessee transfer Preston Williams ($5,600).  We get him at a cost savings to returning starter Olabisi Johnson ($8,700) and Williams was a former 5 star recruit.  Everyone on this team is in play but my top 2 plays would be Izzy Matthews and Preston Williams considering price.

QB K.J. Carta-Samuels

Wyoming @ New Mexico State (+5.5) (Total 45)

Wyoming is a very interesting team on this slate as they are priced more fairly than Carta-Samuels and McDonald.  QB Vander Waal ($6,100) is taking over for Josh Allen who was the #7 pick for the Buffalo Bills this year.  He should be able to move the ball here against New Mexico State and at that price he doesn’t need a ton to pay off compared to Carta-Samuels.  I like pairing him up with WR Austin Conway ($7000) and can’t forget about RB Nico Evans ($6,000) who is an Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch list this year.  Those are the 3 main targets on the Wyoming side of the ball.

Austin Conway Big Season

New Mexico State is entering this game without its leading passer, rusher, or receiver from last season.  RB Jason Huntley is my #1 target on this team but he is a bit expensive at $8,200.  He should be involved heavily here and is worth a look.  Romero is a bit of a wild card and in play but still prefer Vander Waal across the ball.  Any of the 3 WRs are in play for this team, but again Huntley is the play for this team.

S-Flex for the Win!

I think in most slates you will want to run a 2nd QB in S-Flex but on this small slate you might want to run a RB or WR as that will be lower owned and bring you better leverage in gpps.  Cash though, 2 QBs will be the optimal cash build most weekends.

Overall, I hope you enjoyed this breakdown for this slate.  Please if you haven’t checked out the research article, please do so as I will be adding to it as I find more information to help you become a better DFS player.
