Blande’s Bland Take: WNBA DFS Rundown and Picks 8/26/2018

Hi there! I’m Glen but I go by Blande and you can find me on twitter as @DfsBlande . I’m here over at the DFS Army with coverage of WNBA. If you are not yet an Army member, join us over here for the greatest coverage in the industry on not just the WNBA but other sports as well. We are down to the semifinals of the WNBA playoffs. Four teams face-off in a best-of-5 series for the chance to get to the WNBA finals. The Phoenix Mercury have already played two games this playoffs in win-or-go-home games, the Mystics have played one such game, and these will be the first playoff games this season for the Storm and the Dream. Once again it’s much harder to build lineups on Fanduel than on Draftkings due to the pricing. That said, let’s dive in!

  • Washington Mystics @ Atlanta Dream

Mystics Top Plays: Elena Delle Donne, LaToya Sanders, Kristi Toliver, Ariel Atkins, Natasha Cloud

Elena Delle Donne is one of the top plays on this entire slate. Her matchup is great, making her an all format play. The spot is neutral for LaToya Sanders, who has a nice floor usable in Cash games. Her ceiling is a little limited for GPPs in this matchup, but she is still usable there. I have no interest in Kristi Toliver going up against Tiffany Hayes. Rather, Natasha Cloud and Ariel Atkins make for good GPP plays on a slate where you’ll need some less expensive guards. Aerial Powers and Monique Currie are potentially playable today as deep GPP flyers. Use them cautiously.

Dream Top Plays: Jessica Breland, Elizabeth Williams, Brittney Sykes, Tiffany Hayes, Renee Montgomery

Jessica Breland and Tiffany Hayes will be called on to carry the load for the Dream today. Both players have stepped up since McCoughtry went down with injury, and they are both playable in all formats. That said, use them cautiously as their matchups are not the best out there. Elizabeth Williams is in a good spot, but her previous performance in this same situation indicates she is more of a Cash play today than a GPP play. Brittney Sykes is my favorite play on the Dream here, the spot against Atkins is a neutral one and she has shown the ability to perform here. Renee Montgomery has been on a tear from deep in recent games, and if that form continues, you’ll want to have some shares of her today. Finally, Alex Bentley is worth mentioning as a punt play.

  • Phoenix Mercury @ Seattle Storm

Mercury Top Plays: Britney Griner, DeWanna Bonner, Diana Taurasi, Stephanie Talbot, Briann January

Britney Griner joins EDD as a top play on the slate. Fire up Griner in all formats. The spot is good, and she’ll be called upon to perform a herculean feat today. Diana Taurasi has a poor matchup against Jewell Loyd, making it extremely difficult to justify rostering her today. DeWanna Bonner finds herself in an interesting spot, going up against Breanna Stewart. This is not a good matchup, limiting her to GPP-only status. Talbot is too expensive on Fanduel for my liking. She is still potentially playable on Draftkings. Briann January is in a good spot, but her inconsistency makes her only usable as a GPP punt. We will need punts on Fanduel today, Angel Robinson makes for a high-risk punt play there.

Storm Top Plays: Breanna Stewart, Natasha Howard, Jewell Loyd, Sue Bird, Alysha Clark

Breanna Stewart fills out the trio of top plays on the slate. Play her in all formats. Natasha Howard has a brutal matchup against Griner. Normally I’ll say fade her, but she has excelled in this particular matchup before, making her a contrarian GPP play. Alysha Clark is a great value play in this matchup against Talbot, and she comes in especially useful on Fanduel where we need cheap plays. Jewell Loyd is my favorite guard on this slate. Given her price, she could easily have the highest value on the entire slate. Sue Bird has a tough matchup today, and I’ll be mostly fading her. Finally, Jordin Canada is worth mentioning as another value punt play that could come in useful on Fanduel.
