Blande’s Bland Take: WNBA DFS Rundown 7/20/2018

Hi there! I’m Glen but I go by Blande and you can find me on twitter as @DfsBlande . I’m here over at the DFS Army with coverage of WNBA. Today brings us a three-game slate. Before diving into the rundown, let’s take a minute to appreciate what Liz Cambage has done over the past 2 games. 88 points, 27 rebounds, 6 assists, and 6 blocks, all translating to 86 and 63.4 Fanduel points over the two games. Liz Cambage is back in the WNBA and the whole league has been put on notice. The DFS world is also watching! Now let’s get down to business!

  • Seattle Storm @ Connecticut Sun

It all begins with Breanna Stewart. She should be one of the popular ones tonight, although her ownership will not be as high as usual. This is a good spot for Stewart and she has shown the ability to exploit it. Natasha Howard enjoys this matchup, and makes for a solid play in all formats. Jewell Loyd is expensive for the matchup, relegating her to a strictly GPP role. Alysha Clark is a usable punt play especially on Fanduel where the pricing is tough. Sue Bird is strictly a Cash play today due to her limited upside in the matchup.

The return of Alyssa Thomas changes the dynamics here for the Sun. Thomas is a better play today than Chiney Ogwumike based on the matchups and her ability to fill up a stat sheet. This is an excellent spot for Jasmine Thomas who just enjoys playing against the Storm. I want no part of Courtney Williams and Shekkina Stricklen today. One because of matchup and the other because she is just not a DFS target. Finally, Rachel Banham makes for a reasonable GPP punt play (you’ll need these on FD).

  • Dallas Wings @ Chicago Sky

This is a B2B and 3in4 for the Wings, not a good sign. Everyone one and their dog will be on Liz Cambage after her last two performances, and for good reason. Cambage has the best matchup at center today and she has shown the ability to exploit it to the max. Cambage is basically a free square in Cash games where she should be over 80% owned. In GPPs, a case can be made for fading Cambage. Her ownership should be through the roof, and if it turns out she has tired legs and doesn’t perform, one can immediately get a leg up over the field. Just remember, fade her at your own peril. Skylar Diggins-Smith has a good matchup but is still too expensive for me, however, this is the kind of spot she excels in. Glory Johnson is a top target here today, as is Kayla Thornton and Allisha Gray.

For the Sky, Gabby Williams pops out as an excellent play today. She has a great matchup and is blowout proof. Courtney Vandersloot is in a terrible spot, although she is talented enough to beat it. Allie Quigley has been extremely consistent and makes for an excellent Cash play. She is also a good GPP play. Stefanie Dolson will have her hands full with Cambage, however we just saw LaToya Sanders put up a monster game in the same spot yesterday. Diamond DeShields is a little too expensive, relegating her to GPPs. Something is up with Cheyenne Parker, the drop in minutes has me spooked and I’ll prefer some more certainty before playing her at that price.

  • Indiana Fever @ Los Angeles Sparks

My top play for the Fever is Natalie Achonwa. She has an exploitable matchup against the Sparks here, and is relatively cheap. She’s playable in all formats. I have no interest in Candice Dupree, the matchup against Nneka Ogwumike is not one to look forward to. With Alana Beard doubtful, Victoria Vivians would have a much easier time today. She’s a little too expensive on Fanduel, but is usable in GPPs. For her price, Cappie Pondexter makes for a good punt play in all formats. She has the 25-30 Fpts upside we want in GPPs, and has been getting consistent minutes. Erica Wheeler has a tough matchup against Chelsea Gray and I want no part of it. Kelsey Mitchell, Tiffany Mitchell, Stephanie Mavunga, and Erica McCall are all GPP deep flyers, who have a high probability of disappointing.

It’s an open secret that I never pick the right player between Candace Parker and Nneka Ogwumike, but one of these days I’ll get it right. Nneka Ogwumike is my top play for the Sparks, since she has an easier matchup than Parker. Parker has a tough matchup, but when has that stopped her before? I like both Chelsea Gray and Odyssey Sims with Alana Beard likely out. They are both in very exploitable spots. Essence Carson would have a tough time with Victoria Vivians on her.
