Blande’s Bland Take: WNBA DFS Rundown 7/19/2018

Hi there! I’m Glen but I go by Blande and you can find me on twitter as @DfsBlande . I’m here over at the DFS Army with coverage of WNBA. We have a three-game slate on our hands here, with the WNBA All-Star Team Selection sandwiched between them (right before the 8 pm ET game) on ESPN 2. The slate is perfectly aligned for GPP shots at the top price and there is plenty of Cash plays around to help build the BR. Let’s take advantage of it!

  • New York Liberty @ Atlanta Dream

Tina Charles is the key for the Liberty today. She has a great matchup against Jessica Breland and is expected to excel in it. Kia Vaughn is in a slump and her minutes have steadily decreased. It’s hard to roster either her or Amanda Zahui B due to their lack of consistency, but they are usable as GPP punts. Marissa Coleman’s return will shuffle some minutes around. Shavonte Zellous, Epiphany Prince, Bria Hartley are my favorite in the guard pool for the Liberty. Sugar Rodgers could suffer from Coleman’s return; however, I’ll have a small share of her today in GPPs as a leverage Hail Mary GPP flyer.

Angel McCoughtry is the top play for the Dream today. She is in an excellent spot, with an opportunity to be among the top scoring players of the slate. Elizabeth Williams is in a nice spot today and has been consistent recently making her a good Cash play. Jessica Breland is in dream form, and is capable of performing in this spot, however it is not an easy matchup and given her expected elevated ownership, fading her makes sense. Tiffany Hayes, Renee Montgomery, and Brittney Sykes are in great spots and are all playable today. Tiffany Hayes is still too expensive on Fanduel, making Sykes and Montgomery the better plays there.

  • Washington Mystics @ Dallas Wings

Another Mystics game, another night for Elena Delle Donne to shine. EDD is captain of the All-Star team for good reason. Look to her to showcase it in this game. With no Natasha Cloud, Kristi Toliver will carry the weight of getting the offense rolling. This is a tough load to carry, and given her price, there are questions as to whether she can meet value. She makes for a GPP play today. LaToya Sanders has her hands full with Liz Cambage, but is still playable in GPPs as some centers have found success in the matchup. With Cloud out, Tierra Ruffin-Pratt is in line for a bump in minutes, making her a good value play especially on Draftkings. Monique Currie should also see some more minutes and I expect will be highly owned on Fanduel. Last but not the least, Ariel Atkins has a dream matchup here, and is playable in all formats!

Everyone will be playing Liz Cambage after her last performance. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say she won’t repeat the performance. Not good enough for you? How about this? I’ll be fading Liz Cambage today! The ownership will be through the roof, and I believe there are better bigs to play on this slate. If you can’t bring yourself to follow me down this road, Liz Cambage should almost be a lock in Cash games and is a good GPP play. Glory Johnson and Azura Stevens are in good spots here and playable in all formats. Kayla Thornton has a poor matchup against Atkins, I want no part of that. Allisha Gray makes for a good play in all formats due to her consistency. Finally, Skylar Diggins-Smith has the potential of putting up 50+ Fpts today, I’m just not sold on her skyrocketing price tag.

  • Las Vegas Aces @ Phoenix Mercury

Third meeting for these teams with the previous two ending in a Mercury victory. A’ja Wilson needs to have a superb game for the Aces to win this one, and she is capable. I have zero interest in the trio of Dearica Hamby, JiSu Park, and Carolyn Swords. You can throw in Kelsey Bone into that pack. One of them could make value, but I’m really not going hunting there. Tamera Young is interesting in this position and makes for a good GPP play. Fitting her salary in is a nightmare, but would make for unique lines. Kayla McBride is in a good position and is playable in all formats if you can stomach the price. Finally, Kelsey Plum and Moriah Jefferson make for interesting GPP plays in this neutral spot.

My top play of the slate is Britney Griner. I’ll be going well overweight of the field on her in all formats. The Aces just don’t have anyone to stop her. My top punt play is Angel Robinson, her price makes her preferable to Camille Little in this position, and it helps that she will not have to go against Wilson all the time. DeWanna Bonner has a superb matchup and is an excellent play in all formats. The only thing that could limit her is if Griner and Diana Taurasi hug all the usage. Speaking of Diana Taurasi, this is another excellent spot for her, and I don’t need to tell you why she is playable in all formats. Briann January makes for a nice punt play to fit in as many of the studs as you can. Yvonne Turner and Leilani Mitchell keep fighting for whatever scrap minutes they can find, and are GPP punt plays in the event of an early blowout here.
