Game-By-Game Breakdown

Belgium vs. Tunisia

Nice! We get to start today’s breakdown with my favorite team to watch in the tournament, Belgium. Belgium smashed Panama last time out, 3-0, and while Tunisia surprised some people last time out (not me if you read the breakdown from that day) I don’t think they have much of a chance here. The only problem with Belgium is they have so many good players and all of their price points are elevated. That being said, Kevin de Bruyne is my favorite cash game play because he is the focal point and distributor for this high powered offense. After that my personal preference is Eden Hazard and Dries Mertens because they mixes in peripheral stats for scoring as compared to star striker, Romelu Lukaku. who needs goals and assists to pay off. They are all in play, I suspect Belgium will score at least a couple of goals, it’s about finding the right combination. My interest in Tunisia is extremely limited but if you need salary savers in that range you can look at the #10 Wahbi Khazri as well as Naim Sliti, not to mention the center backs for FanDuel, Yassine Meriah and Syam Ben Youssef.

Belgium Plays: Kevin de Bruyne, Eden Hazard, Dries Mertens, Romelu Lukaku
Tunisia Plays: Wahbi Khazri, Naim Sliti, Yassine Meriah (FD), Syam Ben Youssef (FD)

Mexico vs. South Korea

Mexico could be incredibly popular after shocking the soccer world with a 1-0 victory over defending World Cup Champions, Germany. I’m actually hoping people play the goal scorer, Hector Lozano. He needs the goal to pay off value and while that could happen I’ll be severely underweight to the field. Mexico is also a large favorite in this match so we definitely want exposure. My two favorite plays in this game are the midfielders not named Lozano, fire up both Miguel Layun and Carlos Vela for a discount. Javier Chicarito is  the striker for the Mexican and while he is super goal dependent at $6,800 on DraftKings he is probably my favorite GPP play on the slate. The Koreans offer some really good value and same as their first game, I love the price of Ki Sung-Yueng as a central midfielder to pick up defensive stats as well taking some set pieces. If you think the Koreans manage to find a goal Kim Shin-Wook is the definition of boom or bust but is cheap while if you want to pay up some, Son Hueng-Min is the teams best player. Always important to note for FanDuel are the central backs for the large underdog, they are Hyun Soo Jang and Young-Gwon Kim.

Mexico Plays: Miguel Layun, Carlos Vela, Javier Chicarito (GPP)
South Korea Plays: Ki Sung-Yueng, Kim Shin-Wook (GPP), Son Hueng-Min (GPP), Hyun Soo Jang (FD), Young-Gwon Kim (FD)

Germany vs. Sweden

The big favorites keep on coming! Germany isn’t the largest favorite on the day, that honor goes to Belgium, but they should be the most motivated to get all three points from a victory. Toni Kroos looked better than fellow midfielder Mesut Ozil and based on his willingness to shoot I think he remains the better DFS option. In fact, while Ozil could be popular, you need to make stands on this slate full of favorite and I think I would rather play Joshua Kimmich at a similar price and fill a defender spot at the same time. The Germans should score in this one and the most likely candidates actually aren’t cash prohibitive, sign me up for Thomas Muller and Timo Werner (assuming he starts). The last player I want to mention is Julian Draxler as a GPP option because he played well in the first game and will be under owned compared to the other options I just mentioned. While Sweden is big underdog, they are the team with the most quality among those dogs. Emil Forsberg is the most likely to cause problems for the Germans while Marcus Berg is the GPP option striker. For the third play, I’ll throw out Mikael Lustig because he got forward into the Swedish attack vs. South Korea though those opportunities could be limited here. Wrapping it up as always are the FanDuel defender punts, Andreas Granqvist, who could be priced up because he scored a penalty, and Victor Lindelof.

Germany Plays: Toni Kroos, Joshua Kimmich, Thomas Muller, Timo Werner, Julian Draxler (GPP)
Sweden Plays: Emil Forsberg, Marcus Berg (GPP), Mikael Lustig, Andreas Granqvist (FD), Victor Lindelof (FD)

That’s what I have for you today, good luck and I’ll see you in Slack tomorrow morning!
