Kickers Corner – Selecting the Right NFL Kicker on Fanduel DFS Playoffs Week 2

Kickers Corner

Are you ready to build your lineups from the bottom up?  For many, the way to build is to start from the top, pick out the QB that they want. They leave Def and Kicker to the end and just take whomever you can fit.  For some, they choose to start at the bottom and work their way to the top.  This way no spot goes without proper thought.  I am here to help you by doing that research for you with the focus at the bottom of the roster.

Before the Pick Research

I love to play on Fanduel and one of those reasons is that I believe that the Kicker gives us an advantage.  So many people roster whatever cheap kicker they can place.  About as much thought goes into who they play kicker as they do who’s the boss.  The best thing is, the Kicker might be one of the easiest spots to select.  If you want to know what I look for in selecting a kicker I have you covered in my How to Pick a Kicker to find out.

For a quick refresher remember these tips

  1. Teams expected to score over 24 points and favored to win preferably at home.
  2. Teams who play indoors or where the weather is not an issue.
  3. Kickers who can actually kick the ball from distance with high accuracy.
  4. forget about the price, and focus on the skill.

The main reason we want to focus on everything but ignore the price is that no other position on your roster will have more chance to return points based on the difference in salary.  Top priced kickers are 5100, the bottom price is 4500.  Many top options will fall into the 4700 range, that means for 200 more you could easily grab a 15 point kicker whereas the 4500 guys may only be good for 8.

The Chart and General Notes

A small note on the chart, I am only using the season-long numbers for the kickers’ stats going forward.  This is to help show the kickers with an even number of games since some did not play last week.

So last week I was all off on Bryant, which bugs the crap out of me because looking back he was only a bad play on paper.  This is not a game played on paper though.  I let listening to all of the experts being on the Rams to convince me that Bryant couldn’t be in play.  The truth is, this is playoffs and any team can pull off the win.

Stephen Gostkowski

Probably the safest play on the slate.  Gostkowski has a lot of kicks this season and very few misses.  He gets used often from 40+ and just enough from 50+ to get points quick.  He is also high priced on a team where a lot of the other weapons could be in play from NE.  Keep an eye on the weather before kick off.  Cold isn’t a problem but winds could factor into the choice.

Chris Boswell

The weather I have seen from Pit was calling for some winds.  Keep an eye on them to make sure that they do not get too high.  Everything can change so just make sure we see less than 15 MPH winds.  This is a stadium where only Boswell is in play.  It is one of the worst kicking stadiums in the league.  Boswell could have a big game if Pitt is able to move the ball against Jacksonville.  I do not think that Pitt will be able to score a lot of touchdowns.  Hopefully, they are able to move the ball and that will keep Boswell in this.

Kai Forbath

Of all of the home favorites, Forbath might be my favorite.  The matchup is pretty solid for being a competitive game and I think Forbath will be used the whole game.  The game is also inside so we get to skip all this cold weather stuff. Forbath even got 9 kicks from 50+ yards this season.  I wish he had made more than 6 made but the attempts are great.

Wil Lutz

The matchup is tough. I mean TOUGH as MIN is the best defense playing on this slate.  While there is no one that cannot perform Lutz is going to need a lot of things to go his way.  My thinking is Lutz could have a big game if NO defense is able to perform than Lutz could get some kicks in.  Min could see some jitters get in the way of offense and have things go like it did for the Rams last week.  Atlanta was not able to move the ball early, but after a few breaks, Bryant was off to a big start.  That is why Lutz will need to be big (at least on paper).

Jake Elliott

So Wentz is not going to be in this game but that doesn’t stop Elliott from being able to go off.  I do not mind Elliott at all this week.  This should be a Philly team that is not able to score as many touchdowns as they did with Wentz.  If Foles is able to do anything positive than Elliott could see opportunities from both sides of the ball with their defense being as solid as it was all year.

Matt Bryant

This Atlanta team that we have seen the last few weeks is the Atlanta team I thought we would see most of the season.  Their defense and special teams are leading the show and the offense is coming in to close out the game.  That is really helping Bryant perform and with him kicking from 50+ out multiple times a game his floor and ceiling have been high.  This week is probably the week where he does bad since I finally have jumped on his train.

Josh Lambo

So here is the problem…Pitt is a bad place to have to kick in.  Lambo is in play because there are only 8 kickers, but he is below Succop on my want to play list.

Ryan Succop

Go for it if you want.  I do not mind the savings and maybe this is a week where Ten gets the 2nd upset.  I like Succop stacked with Ten def or you could stack Succop with Henry as if Succop is doing well either of those 2 are doing well.
