Draft Week 9 Aftermath Report – Looking Back to Move Forward

Draft Week 9 Aftermath Report – Looking Back to Move Forward by UW81

*Reminder this is a focus on Head to Head matchups only. 3m, 6m, 10m, and Dream Team have a different set of strategies.
For this series, we’ll be comparing the top options that we had going into the Sun-Mon slates vs. reality, how it affected our strategies in the previous week, and what it’ll change going forward.

Shaped up to be an interesting week and somewhat disappointing. We ran into a situation where picking talent over the matchup did not work out in our favor, plus we saw some top ultra-chalk options not show up to our expected historical performances. Couple it with the problem of not being able to swap out late injured players due to technical problems, it was all and all a frustrating week on Draft.

QB:

If you locked in one of the top two I mentioned in the VIP article last week, it was basically a wash. None of my H2H matchups came down to winning or losing by 1 point, so it shouldn’t have mattered. If you decided to dip down to Brees (like I did in 20% of my drafts) you might have run into a few hiccups. In H2H matchups, no QB was taken outside of these three this week.

RB:

The big news this week was Fournette being pulled out at the eleventh hour & Draft being inaccessible for many people to make late-game swaps. I was fortunate to only draft him in 4 H2H and didn’t have a problem swapping out. Lucky for you if you didn’t get in there to swap him out, Draft gave everyone refunds in those contests. So basically it was a freeroll. I did go 42/50 in H2H contests this week and a big reason was because of that due to Hunt being a disappointment in a game that was slated to be a shootout. Also to not going forward, he’s been downgraded to a RB2 because of his inability on defensive downs. In a first, Elliot did not reach his projected value which made your drafts you picked first in at a disadvantage. However, if you drafted second and went with the prescribed RB/RB combo, you would have combined for 31.5 points in your RB slots, which should have locked you in for an easy win.

WR:

Jones wasn’t on my list but found his way on my team and I went back and forth about Mike Evans and AJ Green with having such poor match ups. We decided, in general, to roll with talent over matchups and were punished for it. Evans and Green set new floors for themselves that will make you question using them in negative match up situations ever again. Thomas continues to disappoint all season and even in a cherry matchup, Brees doesn’t throw to him. Dez and Hill were close enough to value making them near top plays this week.
Week 10 strategy thoughts:
As we evaluate the slate for this week, we’re going to be taking a much different approach than we have in the past. We have enough data to look at trends in how people are picking players, when, and why. It’s enough where we’ll be able to exploit it. Look for my VIP article Sunday morning before lock and make sure to hop in Slack to ask any questions you have.

How did that common line up turn out I mentioned in the VIP article?

At 62.32 points, I won 9/10 match ups. Disclaimer that 7 of them had Fournette in their lineup. If you would have subbed in Ingram at 8.4 points, I would have won 8/10 of those matchups. To get the picks and analysis later this week, DFS ARMY VIP MEMBERSHIP – CLICK through here or use promo 20-OFF for 20% off and Bonus VIP entrance into our Slack Chat (28,500+ messages a week)
