Getting the Most From your DFS Army VIP Slack Chat

Welcome, soldier!  Let me be the first to say hello and show you around.  You have just joined perhaps the greatest little slice of daily fantasy sports heaven ever created.  We hope you feel the same way in a short period of time.  Those of us in the Army tend to love talking sports from NFL to NASCAR, from NBA to MMA.  If it’s available, we intend to talk about it.  We hope you get acclimated and start contributing, too.  We firmly believe we learn, share opinions, help each other, contribute, and ultimately give back to the community that has made us better players.  In short, we love those that lead from the front.

Perhaps the most valuable asset to the Army is our Slack Chat.  Now, many other places are also jumping on board, but we feel we are the pioneers of creating this community and bringing it to the DFS masses.  Let’s discuss a few navigation tips, and cover some rules to make your learning curve shorter and more comfortable.  Those that participate in our slack conversations tend to be long-standing members.  We hope you become a long-standing veteran, too.

  1. Introduce yourself.  Stop by our #general channel and say hi.  Tell us a little about yourself.  Where you hail from, your DFS aspirations, your history in DFS, how you found us, what you do for a living, your favorite teams.  Really, it’s all up to you, so let us hear you.  Don’t be shy!
  2. Finding Channels.  We have a lot of independent channels inside our Army Slack.  Head over to the channels bar in the left margin and click on the + sign.  You will see all of our channels pop up for you.  Join any you wish to and get active.  We have our sports covered, and a few off-topic channels, too.
  3. Tag someone.  If you want to mention someone or get their attention, simply put the @ in front of their screen name.  For me, it would be @choppodong and I will be alerted to being mentioned.  You will undoubtedly find some friends here, and this is a quick way to engage them in relevant conversations……or smack talk.
  4. Make it more personal.  You can always Direct Message another person, too.  Simply look lower in the left hand margin for their name.  If they are online, you will see them.  If not, simply click the + sign next to the header “Direct Messages” and type in their name.
  5. Upload your winners!  We love to brag on ourselves in the Army and we love touting our soldiers’ successes.  In the text bar in the appropriate room, you will see a + on the left to upload screenshots of your personal bests and big cashes.  Also, on the right, you will see a smiley face.  This opens a wide assortment of emojis.  We use these for about everything.  You can also add an emoji like a simple “thumbs up” by hovering over the message and clicking the smiley face that pops up over on the right.  For mobile, you simply hold down on the message and the same menu pops up.
  6. Get advice.  Have questions concerning our cheatsheets?  Want clarification from a strategy discussion or article?  Need something explained you heard on a podcast?  This is perhaps the biggest value in all of DFS…..our accessibility.  Don’t hesitate to ask our experts and regulars questions.  This is why we are hear.  In short order, you may even find yourself being asked questions.  Lead from the front, give more than you take, and be friendly.  That’s all we ask.
  7. Find that lost information.  The search bar is how you find information you may have missed while your boss was yelling at you or asking you to work this weekend.  Do what you gotta do, but when you get time to come back to your favorite place use the search bar to find relevant information you may have missed.  Simply type in the keyword(s) and get caught up.

Now, that you are somewhat oriented, let’s cover a few ground rules.  The DFS Army VIP Slack Forums are a team environment. We all help each other out and root each other on for DFS purposes.  We are all adults here so the chat rules are simple.

  1. Head on over to the #dfs-army-avatars and grab a custom DFS Army avatar to use on Draftkings, Fanduel, and other sites. We have some cool NFL, MLB, and regular ones. Anyone that takes down a prize of $2000 or more in a GPP contest can send us the screenshot featuring their DFS Army Avatar. If they make it on to the wall of big cashes they get a DFS Army T-Shirt or swag item of their choice!!
  2. Purposefully posting false player updates will result in banishment. Always include a link with player updates.
  3. Anyone caught attempting to sell members lineups or sell advice or anything will be banned.
  4. No posting of referral links of any kind.
  5. No offensive language should be used. (you can swear, say fuck, shit, bitch, mother fucker, cunt, etc) but nothing that would be deemed offensive and NEVER used as a personal attack on another member.
  6. If a channel is called only x posts here, then don’t post anything there!
