Being our Research Station hasn’t populated our BvP numbers at last glance, I went digging. I figured if I’m digging I might as well be sharing. Here are the 4/1 Opening Day, historical Batter vs Pitcher matchups with more than 20 plate appearances against their opposing pitcher.
We like to say 20 is a decent sample size, but even 20 is sketchy. “The bigger the better” is the rule here. Some batters with 7 at bats and 4 HRs need to be considered, too. So, even though this is a blanket graphic, you still need to apply some thought as to how seriously you include this stuff in your attack plan today.
But, I did take the liberty of color coding one of my favorite metrics combining On-Base and Slug…..or, OPS. Green is good, red is not good.
4/1 BvP Chart
- Salaries are Draftkings
- These players can be effectively stacked against the opposing ace pitchers today with some degree of confidence the batter may post a great score. So, either anchoring your stacks or used as 1offs, any green or “almost green” batter can be considered a decent play from a historical standpoint. I would have no problem boosting these guys’ projections in the optimizer, or putting some minimum on some to get them to pull into my lineups.
