Bubba Wallace Qualifies 16th For Sunday's Race At Dover Motor Speedway
On Saturday afternoon, Bubba Wallace qualified 16th for Sunday's Wurth 400 at Dover Motor Speedway. Despite high expectations heading into last week's race at Talladega, the eight-year Cup veteran made contact with Erik Jones on lap 154 of the 188-lap race, ending the day for both drivers. While 2024 has been a strong season for the 23XI superstar, as he already has three appearances in the DraftKings optimal lineup, it is unlikely that he will add to this total on Sunday. Despite finishing 12th at this track last season, his average DraftKings score in the Next Gen car at this venue is just 34.40 points, which ranks him 16th in the Cup Series. With no top 10s and an average finish of 20.2 in nine Cup starts at "The Monster Mile," Wallace is nothing more than a contrarian play, a driver you will want to limit your exposure to in DFS this weekend.

Ryan Preece Underwhelms During Practice At Dover Motor Speedway
Ryan Preece will start 28th in Sunday's Wurth 400 at Dover Motor Speedway. On Saturday, Preece was largely underwhelming as he was only able to produce the 20th fastest time in practice (22.839), a time that ranked ninth among the Fords. What makes this time particularly interesting is that he was only on the track for 12 laps during practice, which was the second-fewest of anyone in the field. Given that his car was not strong, it makes you wonder why he limited himself to such few laps during practice. While drivers will sometimes limit themselves in practice in order to save something for qualifying, this does not appear to be what Preece was doing as he was just .327 faster in the qualifying session. Considering he has no top-10 finishes in seven Cup starts at this track, and that his average DraftKings score is 22.90 in the two starts in the Next Gen car here, we recommend limiting your exposure to the No. 41 in DFS this weekend.

What Should You Do With Jimmie Johnson In DFS This Weekend?
NASCAR Hall of Famer Jimmie Johnson will start 27th in Sunday's Wurth 400 at Dover Motor Speedway. Every week in NASCAR DFS, there seems to be one driver in the field that is particularly difficult to assess, a driver that you can make a strong argument for and an equally strong argument against. This week, that driver is Jimmie Johnson. With 38 Cup starts at this track, Johnson has 11 wins (28.9% of starts), 18 top-fives (47% of starts), and 27 top-10s (71.1% of starts). Between these races, he has led 3,113 laps, is averaging 9.7 for his finish, and has just two DNFs. Although he has not raced at this track since 2020, in both starts that season, he finished seventh & third, for an average +5.5 in place differential. To put his dominance at this track into perspective, Johnson has seven more wins than Martin Truex Jr., who has the most wins among active full-time drivers in the Cup Series at this venue. Any driver that puts up this type of production is hard to ignore, especially when that driver is a former seven-time Cup Series champion. Despite these amazing numbers, a lot has changed since Johnson last won at this track in 2017. In his last five starts in the Cup Series, the 48-year-old has three DNFs and an average finish of 32.6. In his two starts this season, Johnson is averaging just 16.13 DraftKings points, which ranks him 38th among drivers that have competed in a NASCAR regular season race this year. Whether it is that he is too old to still be competitive or that he just has not had enough time in the Gen-7 car, something has changed for the 22-year Cup veteran. Because of how much he has struggled since his retirement, Jimmie Johnson, a driver who has led 1,773 more laps at this track than the next closest driver on this slate has (Kyle Busch), should be looked at as nothing more than a dart throw when building your DFS lineups this weekend.

Carson Hocevar Is Set To Make His First Cup Start At Dover Motor Speedway On Sunday
When Carson Hocevar starts 20th in Sunday's Wurth 400 at Dover Motor Speedway, it will be just the second time the 21-year-old races on "The Monster Mile" in any of NASCAR's three major series. With no Cup or Xfinity starts, the only track history that we have to go off of is a 2020 Truck Series start in which he finished 12th place. Given the chaos of the 2020 season, which had no qualifying or practice following the pandemic, it is very difficult to take too much away from that data. Because of his limited experience here, his practice performance becomes more important than usual as it is the only relevant track data that we have to go on. In Saturday's practice, Hocevar was on track for just 15 laps and recorded just the 23rd fastest practice time (22.894) of the day. For a driver with such limited experience on this track to take so few practice laps is puzzling, particularly given that the laps he did post were unimpressive. While last week's 17th-place finish serves as a reminder that there are big things in store for the Spire Motorsports rookie, his limited track history and lackluster practice results suggest that we should not expect to see those big things on Sunday at Dover.
