Forslund’s Full Mount – UFC Fight Night 121 – DFS MMA Breakdown

Welcome, DFS Army to another Saturday night of fights.  Like last week we have another 13 fight card.   As always remember good bankroll management.  I tend to use the 80-20 rule (80% of my bankroll for this card in cash games and 20% in GPP’s).  You want to be sure your cash games cover your GPP entries.  Also, pay attention to contest selection this week.  The payouts aren’t as high as some weeks in certain contests.  As always, VIP members be sure you take advantage of our MMA Research Station.  I will be around in Slack to answer any questions you might have and be sure to follow me on Twitter!  Lets get down to business.

Tuivasa (-165) 8.8k vs Coulter (+145) 7.4k

First off, this is a great fight to target in tournaments.  It’s a heavyweight fight and the odds that this fight ends inside the distance is -500.

Tuivasa is a fairly young fighter.  He has very good power and is strong in the clinch.  He doesn’t have the best ground game but, I don’t think that will matter in this matchup.  Coulter is a boxer which obviously makes him a solid striker.  I will look to have some exposure to both fighters in GPP’s, especially with the juicy ITD line.  I think Tuivasa is more likely to win so he would be my stronger play over the 2.  Just don’t forget to have some exposure to Coulter.

Shelton (-370) 9.2k vs Lausa (+310) 7k

Shelton is athletic with a solid all-around game.  Lausa is a decent striker with good stand up overall.  I don’t like the odds or salaries in this fight.  I think it could quite possibly go to decision.  For that reason, I will only target it very little in tournaments.  Shelton most likely won’t reach value if this fight does go to dec.  Lausa would for sure pay off his I just don’t see it being a very likely outcome.  So in short, this fight is fadable if only building a few lineups but worth small exposure if building over 10-12.

Kassem (-170) 8.3k vs Chambers (+150) 7.9k

Kassem is a very young fight (she is only 21).  She is a good striker with good leg kicks as well.  She is 4-0 with all of her wins coming in under 2 mins in the 1st Round.  Chambers is coming off of a 2-year layoff and is almost 40 years old.  While she does have a good ground game she is very hittable and also easily taken down.  I like Kassem in all formats.  Chambers is worth a small amount of exposure in GPP’s just because we don’t know how Kassem will do if this gets out of 1st Round.

Camacho (-145) 8.4k vs Brown (+125) 7.8k

Camacho is moving down a weight class for this fight.  He has very good power and lands at a good volume.  He does tend to gas the longer the fight goes just because he throws so many strikes with the power he does.  Brown is an aggressive fighter with decent takedowns.  He has shown to have a suspect chin.  I really like Camacho as a play, especially in tournaments.  I might have a few lineups with Brown but, not very many.

Wieczorek (-160) 8.7k vs Hamilton (+140) 7.5k

Wieczorek is making his UFC debut here.  He is a solid striker that is hard to finish.  Hamilton is decent everywhere but, not great.  He sometimes leads with his head which, doesn’t help much in protecting is already weak chin.  I really want to trust Wieczorek in this spot.  I just don’t like paying that kind of salary on a debuting fighter.  I actually think Hamilton is worthy of a few GPP darts.  He won’t be very highly owned and there are ways he can win this fight.  In short, I will have exposure to both in GPP’s.

Brooks (-570) 9.4k vs Lentz (+435) 6.8k

Brooks has a solid jab with decent cardio.  He also has some upside here with TD’s.  Lentz is a former D1 wrestler.  He has a solid guillotine that he is always looking to lock in.  My main issue with him is he often has issues making weight.  This is most likely a fight I won’t have much exposure to.  Brooks is the 2nd most expensive fighter and he hasn’t looked the best in his last few fights.  Lentz if he misses weight is most likely a fade altogether for me.

Benoit (-275) 8.9k vs Mokhtarian (+235) 7.3k

Benoit has very good power and also throws together a lot of good combos.  His only flaw really is he doesn’t have the best TD defense.  Mokhtarian is really good anywhere.  His strongest asset would be he has very good leg kicks.  I like Benoit in all formats.  Mokhtarian is most likely a fade for me altogether.

Volkanovski (-700) 9.5k vs Young (+500) 6.7k

Volkanovski is a very good striker who is very quick.  He has good TD’s and a solid ground and pound game as well.  Young is taking this fight on 7 days notice.  Let’s make this really simple!  Lock in Volkanovski in cash.  He is also a very strong GPP play as well.

Theodorou (-270) 9k vs Kelly (+230) 7.2k

Theodorou is a decent all around fighter.  He has decent kicks with good cardio.  Kelly is fighting at home here.  He is a solid striker that is tough and hard to put away.  This is a GPP only fight for me.  I won’t have many lineups with Theodorou even though I think he wins.  I just don’t see him reaching value at his high price tag.  I have a very small interest in Kelly just because of his salary.  I might have him in 1 or 2 lineups if building 20+.

Matthews (-135) 8.5k vs Velickovic (+115) 7.7k

Matthews is moving up a weight class here.  He is solid everywhere.  Nothing stands out as great with him.  Velickovic is coming into this as the bigger fighter.  He is a tough fighter.  I like Velickovic as a GPP punt.  There isn’t a ton of value on this card.  I don’t like Matthews a ton here.  I think you can use both in tournaments with my lean toward Velickovic just for value alone.

Means (-220) 9.1k vs Muhammad (+180) 7.1k

Means will have the reach advantage in this fight.  He is a decent striker.  He has very dangerous elbows and knees.  Muhammad is a tough fighter.  He is a decent striker.  He has a good TD game and solid once he gets you down there.  I think this is a fight you for sure need some exposure to in GPP’s.  I also like Muhammad as a cash play.  He is priced way cheaper then he should be and this is a winnable fight for him.  Don’t forget to get Means in some lineups as well.

Rawlings (-135) 8.6k vs Clark (+115) 7.6k

I will probably be avoiding this fight altogether.  Rawlings isn’t great anywhere.  She is the better fighter in this matchup though.  Clark is tough overall but that’s about it.  If I had to pick someone it would be Rawlings.  I just see this fight being very low scoring in general.

Werdum (-360) 9.3k vs Tybura (+300) 6.9k

Werdum is a good striker.  He has good leg kicks and knees.  He is also solid on the ground with good submissions.  Tybura has ok kicks and is a good grappler.  I like the idea of stacking this fight in cash.  I like Werdum in all formats.  I don’t mind Tybura as a GPP punt especially at his price.  I also don’t think you have to have someone from this fight in all your lineups.  I will have heavier exposure to Werdum personally.

Good luck everyone, don’t forget to check out the MMA Research Station to help you build your lineups, and follow me on Twitter!
