Gameweek 5 is upon us!.

Tottenham v Swansea

Well, what do you know.  It’s no longer August and Harry Kane is beginning to find the back of the net.  His first goal of the season was a work of art.  Interestingly enough, he admitted that he was really trying to cross the ball but it found the back of the net.  That’s a goal scorer’s goal right there.  As you will see in our team sheets, provided to our VIPs in our #soccer-talk slack channel; Kane has the highest odds to score of anyone the entire weekend, much less the main Saturday slate.  He will be chalky, but probably should be super chalky.  Plenty of people still fade the late game, so there is some slight value there (::looks to see who is laughing::). Swansea have allowed 5 goals this season and 2 have come from forwards.

I have much more interest in swansea on Fanduel than Draftkings.  Swansea doesn’t put a lot of balls on frame and they probably won’t have much of the possession.  Tottenham have a lot of confidence that they got the Wembley monkey off their backs and should be much more free feeling than in the Burnley match.  I expect them to pepper Lukasz Fabianski with shots; and, as such, should provide a solid return in net.  I am ok with Federico Fernandes to collect a couple blocked shots and a bunch of clearances.

Watford v Manchester City

This match makes the grade because of the Marco Silva factor.  Wherever he coaches, whatever he is saying to his team, he seems to be able to get them to fight (and succeed) to the bitter end.  His tale of the superb home record is widely known.  Man city will give watford all they can handle, but I like Watford to cover the 1.5 goal spread.

I’m not sure if Watford will want to change from their beloved 4-3-3 formation that has served them so well, but maybe a 5-4-1 might be in order to deal with high pressing style that City will bring.  Either way, I definitely like Heurelho Gomes in this match.  The central defense will need to be stout, too.  They are Fanduel plays.

For Man City, it starts up top for them.  The duo of Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero get the party started.  At least one of them will be pulled later in the game. Aguero was subbed off early in their champions league match, so I think he gets full run this time. The remainder of likeable plays will be on the player picks tab in our team sheets.

Best of the Rest

Each week I will give some bonus plays that could be GPP worthy.  The players above are a solid way to start your team for any contest, but they won’t get you all the way there on their own.

Robbie Brady, BUR – Liverpool concedes goals.  For as good as they are they don’t have a shot at winning the premier league because they can’t lock it down, defensively.  Brady is the guy to make things happen.  He is a better Draftkings play since he sends in so many crosses.

Bruno Martins Indi, STK – Stoke is hurting on central defense and he seems like the next guy up to run the back line and try to provide cover for Butland.  He will need to be stout with Joselu bearing down on him, which should provide enough chances to allow him to make the grade on Fanduel.

Joselu, NEW – Sticking in this same game, Joselu is the newcastle target man and he shoots a lot.  Newcastle should see plenty of possession and I like him as a DK Play this weekend.

Between the Sticks

Here are 4 of my choices for Goalkeeper

Lukas Fabianski, SWA (Both) – Playing at Tottenham will see him possibly face 20 shots. 5 or 6 saves isn’t out of the question.

Heurelho Gomes, WAT (Both) – Similar situation as Fabianski only Watford is hosting Manchester City.

Jack Butland, STK (Both) – Stoke should yield possession and changes to the back line could see extra shots find their way through.  Good thing he is a phenomenal keeper.

Ederson, MCI (DK) – He should see a couple shots and could pick up a victory.

That’s gonna do it for me this week.  See you in slack and good luck in your contests!
