Blande’s Blande Take: WNBA DFS Rundown and Picks 8/12

We have an interesting four game slate ahead of us. Before we dive in, it should be noted that Vegas has been off on a lot of the game totals and spreads in WNBA so far this season. As a result, the Vegas component I usually look at has been scaled back significantly. Now it’s all about match-ups. Let’s jump into this tricky four game slate!

  • Dallas Wings @ Connecticut Sun

High usage centers smile when they see the Wings on the schedule. Fire up Jonquel Jones tonight, sit back and watch as she delivers. Alyssa Thomas is also in play as the Wings are poor against bigs in general. Finally, both Alex Bentley and Courtney Williams can be looked at to provide some scoring from the guard position if Jasmine Thomas is still out.

The Sun are one of the best against centers. They are best attacked using very high usage and minutes forwards and guards. Thus, look to Glory Johnson and Skylar Diggins-Smith here. I know Diggins-Smith killed many of us last game, but this could be a good position for her to put up a 40 bugger. Aerial Powers is worth looking at.

  • Indiana Fever @ Washington Mystics

The Fever are best attacked using centers, Krystal Thomas has a good matchup tonight. Forwards struggle against the Fever, even so Emma Meesseman can have a good game in this kind of situations. On the guard front, this is one of the toughest matchups in the league, fade it.

The Fever do not have the centers to trouble the Mystics tonight, but this is one of the best spots to attack them in. Erlana Larkins could provide good value here. Forwards suck versus the Mystics, you can safely fade Candice Dupree. Guards don’t have it any better here. The Fever are looking a lot like a team to fade tonight entirely. Almost forgot about Jazmon Gwathmey. She is severely underpriced for the production she brings. You can load up on her here.

  • Atlanta Dream @ San Antonio Stars

The Dream can be attacked from every position, but they are most susceptible to opposing centers and forwards. Look to Isabelle Harrison and Dearica Hamby to have good games in this spot. Alex Montgomery could be an option here too. The Stars guards are not in the best position, but Kayla McBride could get hot from deep at any time.

Playing high usage centers against the Stars is a go to play, fire up Elizabeth Williams. Forwards also perform well against the stars, putting Sancho Lyttle firmly in play. Finally, the Dream guards are among the best in the league. It’s usually difficult to tell which of the three will show up on a given night. Given the tough matchup against the Stars, the best option here is Tiffany Hayes.

  • Seattle Storm @ Phoenix Mercury

Brittney Griner is back; However, she is on a minute restriction. This makes her a scary DFS play at her price. However, she has the best matchup possible for a center. Even with just 20 minutes she can put up 40. With that said, I think this is a position to fade and let others flock to her. Instead, look to Monique Currie to have a good game from the small forward position. I have no interesting in Taurasi with Griner back.

With Griner back, there’s no point playing Crystal Langhorne tonight. She’ll have her hands full. Instead, look to Breanna Stewart, Jewell Loyd and Sue Bird to pick up the slack tonight.
