DFS MLB Weather Friday 7/14

Trouble Spots

Baltimore will see thunderstorms this evening with the threat of some of these thunderstorms containing very heavy rain and high winds. The simulated radar for 7PM looks like this:

I like to use the simulated radar as a guide as to what will be happening over a region and not specifics so forgot about a thunderstorm being on them at 7PM. The more important picture this portrays is that there will be thunderstorms around but they should move in and then out. Doesn’t seem like a high PPD threat. An in-game delay or delayed start can not be ruled out though.

Tstorms and showers will be near ATL this evening. Not a huge PPD threat but they will be slow-moving so it is not 0. Obviously a delay/late start threat:

Weather Factors

-Light and variable wind, warm and tremendously humid in BAL, temps in the the low 80s, dewpoints in the low to mid 70s.

-Tstorms should be moving away from PIT this evening but there is a chance of a delayed start. Wind blows out to center around 10 mph, temps falling through the 70s, dewpoints in the mid 60s.

-Rain stays south of BOS tonight, wind blows in from right at 10 mph, temps and dewpoints both in the low 60s. Foggy, damp, misty. More like April than July.

-Wind blows out to left at 5 mph in DET, temps falling from the 70s into the 60s, dewpoints near 60.

-Wind blows out to center at 5 mph in CIN, temps in the low 80s falling into the 70s, dewpoints in the mid 60s.

-NYM look to luck out as rain misses them both to their south and north. Temps and dewpoints both near 70, wind out to left at 10 mph.

-Roof likely closed in MIA and HOU.

-Wind blows in from left-center at 10 mph in ATL, very warm and muggy, temps in the 80s, dewpoints low 70s.

-Wind blows in from right at 10 mph, temps in the 60s, dewpoints in the 50s in CHW.

-Not sure how they will handle the roof in MIL as temps are a bit cool, only in the 60s.

-Wind blows in from center at 10 mph in KC, temps in the low 80s, dewpoints near 70.

-OAK, LAA and SD all feature typical California weather that somewhat favors the pitchers.

******Note: I use dewpoints as they are a much more precise way than using % relatively humidity to measure the amount of moisture in the air and affect air density. Simply put, the higher up you are in the atmosphere (COL), the warmer it is and/or the higher the dewpoint, the less dense air is. The less dense air is, the further a batted or throw ball can travel, the less a breaking ball will break and the faster a fastball can travel. Generally, dewpoints above 65 are considered humid and help the ball carry well. *******
