From Zero To Hero: Sean Blaque’s Newfound Approach To MLB DFS

What’s good Army? My name is Sean Blaque and I’ve been a part of the Army for a couple of years now. Through this membership I’ve learned a lot and am now in position to share a part of my strategy that has worked well for me over the last couple of days.

Let’s Get 2 It!!!

The 2 stats that I ‘d been creating my lineups from are:

Extra Base Hits (XBH) and Batted Ball Events (BBE)

Here is how I compile players from these 2 stats. I take the top 10-15 players from each and I would write them down or at least have them in mind when I start my research. From there I’m looking to see players that will be an automatic lock for me. If you’re using a lineup optimizer it would be a good idea to lock the player in and keep it moving. Don’t think too much about it and as most of the teachers in the army would say…. DON’T GET CUTE!!!

Let’s look at Bryce Harper. To start off, Bryce Harper has a BBE of 14 while carrying a XBH of 10

(The highest on this slate). When you look at his wOBA he’s sitting at .455 and has had a great history against Julio Teheran. LOCK!!!. To add more sauce to this is the fact the he has 7 Home Runs against Teheran in their matchup. Needless to say if he’s capable of doing that, which is highly likely, everyone on that team will benefit. Definitely a notable stack. Here’s the cool thing though….. Daniel Murphy and Jose Lobaton are ranking high in XBH while Ryan Zimmerman and Anthony Rendon rank well in BBE. Play Wit It!!! (CASH)

***NOTE: Usually when I construct my Lineups I don’t really go too far down the list unless I’m looking for some punt gpp options.

***I’ve implemented @Choppodong’s ladder strategy in which I’m currently playing 50/50, 10-man, 20-man, 100-man and Gpp- I know GPP is too rich for Chops blood, LOL…

Let’s Move On…..

Another person to look at is Kevin Pillar against Jake Odorizzi. He has a BBE of 18 while carrying an XBH of 4. From the looks of it, I don’t think a lot of people are going to be on him due to his .250 wOBA against Odorizzi but in my opinion I would still play him- more so in a TOR gpp stack. To fortify that I go back to BBE and XBH to find that there’s a supporting cast to exploit. In XBH Josh Donaldson. In BBE you have Jose Bautista, Russell Martin, and Troy Tulowitzki. On paper their numbers don’t look all that great against Odorizzi but if I was to look at it correctly, most are going to go elsewhere for safety and assurance. Odorizzi carries a .332 wOBA against righties….. He can get hit, HARD. This team can go yard when they get hot. The more I look at their numbers the more I like them and think they’ll go under-owned. Play Wit It!!! (GPP)

I hope this insight is helpful to you all for it’s gonna get better as I improve on it. I do have a video but, eh, I didn’t like my freestyle. I will do videos more often than not but for now this should do. Hit me up or any of the sensei’s in the Army and they are sure to help you.
