NHL DFS Tournament Picks and Strategy | Snipes & Grinders, Projections for Fanduel and Draftkings 1/27/23

DFS NHL is a volatile sport centering around correlation, stacking and game theory.  Learning how to win cash games and tournaments requires nailing those great upside plays/stacks, grabbing obvious value, and making the proper fades that sink everyone else’s ships.  Let’s look through today’s slate and identify those winning picks in “Snipes and Grinders!”

All of my plays make sense for the entire DFS industry; however, if there is an egregious discrepancy in player salary between sites, I will mention it in my briefing.

Snipe = Good Play
Grinder = Value Plays (Grinders are Valuable)

DFS NHL Slate Overview:

NHL season is here! Check out all of our industry-leading content on dfsarmy.com, and if interested feel free to DM me personally and I’ll get your journey started. Remember, our mission is a process, we grow and learn every day; figure out what our competitors are doing, identify the correct plays, and calculate the correct ways to attack each slate. Every slate is different and can be attacked in different ways. We also have great tools to work with like the domination station (optimizer), the research station, chalk boards, as well as tons of coaches readily available in our discord.

Now – onto hockey

Decent sized slate here with some obvious spots as well as a few tricky ones. Honestly one of my core stacks is obvious, and the other is a little under the radar given the pivot stacks it has in its price range. The Pivot stack to my core stack would be the Hurricanes. The Hurricanes are at home against the Sharks, which is a glorious spot to be in; and the other stack would be the Islanders playing the Red Wings on the second game of a back to back. Ilya Sorokin is probably the cash game goalie tonight against the Red Wings.

Correlated Snipe #1

Auston Matthews – William Nylander

The Leafs are at home against the Senators who have a bad defense. Home teams in the NHL get final change for offensive zone faceoffs; so, that means a few things matchup wise. I think that Sheldon Keefe will want his Kampf line to shutdown the Stuetzle line for Ottawa, and find Matthews in spots against like rookie center Shane Pinto or something. Do not overthink this one; the Leafs are in a chalky spot on a lackluster slate, and have home ice. Bon Appétit.

Correlated Snipe #2

Jason Robertson – Roope Hintz – Joe Pavelski

Ofcourse in Dallas stacks, Miro Heiskanen will always be viable. I write these pieces the night before, so I don’t quite know the result of the game New Jersey is playing right now against the Predators. With that being said, the Devils are going to be playing a back to back in Dallas, which is a very tough place to play. Normally I don’t worry about back to backs against good teams with capable goalies, but Dallas is just no fun to play. The Stars come in waves, have a bolstering defense, and a tower in net (Oettinger). These Stars have played together forever, and they will pound the tired Devils in tonight. I expect the Devils to take lazy and frustrated penalties, and for the Stars to capitalize on the powerplay.

NHL Grinder Value Plays

Grinders #1 & 2

Kyle Palmieri & Jean-Gabriel Pageau – 2 top powerplay guys for the Islanders. These guys love to shoot, and have genuine offensive upside.

Grinder #3

Adam Boqvist – 3 assists in his last 4 games. He is a highly skilled offensive defenseman that runs the Blue Jackets powerplay. He is starting to come along a little bit, and plays the lousy Canucks.

Good luck, I hope you all come in 2nd.  😉
