NHL DFS Tournament Picks and Strategy | Snipes & Grinders, Projections for Fanduel and Draftkings 1/24/23

DFS NHL is a volatile sport centering around correlation, stacking and game theory.  Learning how to win cash games and tournaments requires nailing those great upside plays/stacks, grabbing obvious value, and making the proper fades that sink everyone else’s ships.  Let’s look through today’s slate and identify those winning picks in “Snipes and Grinders!”

All of my plays make sense for the entire DFS industry; however, if there is an egregious discrepancy in player salary between sites, I will mention it in my briefing.

Snipe = Good Play
Grinder = Value Plays (Grinders are Valuable)

DFS NHL Slate Overview:

NHL season is here! Check out all of our industry-leading content on dfsarmy.com, and if interested feel free to DM me personally and I’ll get your journey started. Remember, our mission is a process, we grow and learn every day; figure out what our competitors are doing, identify the correct plays, and calculate the correct ways to attack each slate. Every slate is different and can be attacked in different ways. We also have great tools to work with like the domination station (optimizer), the research station, chalk boards, as well as tons of coaches readily available in our discord.

Now – onto hockey

Big boy slate tonight with some jarring high priced options in quality spots, as well as a few cheap darts to use to be able to afford those top guys that we want. Some of the matchups to take second looks at include the Red Wings who face the Sharks at home, The Bruins who get Montreal, as well as the Jets up against the Predators. The Red Wings are my 3rd favorite, because they are at home, and the Sharks are simply bad with even worse goaltending. The Bruins goalie is probably going to be the chalk goalie of the slate, regardless of who gets the nod. Now onto my favorite plays.

Correlated Snipe #1

Nathan Mackinnon – Artturi Lechkonen

I enjoy the Avalanche tonight who are up against the Capitals. The Avalanche are also at home which is a nice advantage; the Pepsi Center is a tough place to play. The Avalanche are getting healthier, and Mackinnon is simply a beast. The Capitals are getting old, and their defense is not very strong. Goalie wise, the Avalanche either face former teammate Darcy Kuemper, or crappy Charlie Lindgren. This is a big advantage for the Avalanche, who should know Kuemper’s tendencies very well; with the very solid matchup to boot. This info is how you get an edge on recreational players. If you read a fantasy article, you are a notch above a recreational player.

Correlated Snipe #2

Clayton Keller – Nick Schmaltz – Barrett Hayton
The Coyotes as a stack are my guys on Tuesday. They are at home at Mullet Arena against the disaster of a team in the Anaheim Ducks. Keller is hot coming off a hat trick, Schmaltz is quite simply a nice and underrated player, and Hayton is a true wildcard. I do not know what the Coyotes lines will for sure be (I write these the night before), but if Hayton is on the top line with these 2, or the powerplay, I like Hayton. Not to mention that Anaheim’s GM Pat Verbeeke probably does not want to win, and may tell the coaches to start Stolarz over Gibson. Playing the worse players against a team you want to lose to is not illegal. The player will play their best. I just really like this spot in general, and this time it is the Coyotes, who have young talent. Chychrun is also available in my Coyotes builds.

NHL Grinder Value Plays

Grinder #1
Michael Eyssimont – Another Shark. Top line with Hertl and Meier, but on the second powerplay unit, not the first.
Grinder #2
Lucas Raymond – Too cheap for his top line, top powerplay role
Grinder #3

J.T. Miller – Not cheap, but Vancouver is up against the poopy Blackhawks, and this is the first game with their new coach. Coach Tocchet has literally said that his plan is to help Miller find his game; game 1? let’s go.

Good luck, I hope you all come in 2nd.  😉
