NHL DFS Tournament Picks and Strategy | Snipes & Grinders, Projections for Fanduel and Draftkings 11/19/22

DFS NHL is a volatile sport centering around correlation, stacking and game theory.  Learning how to win cash games and tournaments requires nailing those great upside plays/stacks, grabbing obvious value, and making the proper fades that sink everyone else’s ships.  Let’s look through today’s slate and identify those winning picks in “Snipes and Grinders!”

All of my plays make sense for the entire DFS industry; however, if there is an egregious discrepancy in player salary between sites, I will mention it in my briefing.

Snipe = Good Play
Grinder = Value Plays (Grinders are Valuable)

DFS NHL Slate Overview:

NHL season is here! Check out all of our industry-leading content on dfsarmy.com, and if interested feel free to DM me personally and I’ll get your journey started. Remember, our mission is a process, we grow and learn every day; figure out what our competitors are doing, identify the correct plays, and calculate the correct ways to attack each slate. Every slate is different and can be attacked in different ways. We also have great tools to work with like the domination station (optimizer), the research station, chalk boards, as well as tons of coaches readily available in our discord.

Now – onto hockey

Big slate here with some high priced options as well as some sneaky stacks. The Matthews picture is a pump fake to people that don’t actually read my pieces and just say “oh Sean loves the Leafs”. I don’t mind the Leafs tonight, but they are not my first choice. Big slates means that there is no real super chalk. Secondly, it means that ownerships of stacks will be spread out somewhat widely; so, if you have a random stack, it could catapult you to a win. Matthews, Mackinnon, and McDavid, are all on this slate; which makes it super interesting in my opinion. One of these players will be in my top stacks of the slate. I really like the Golden Knights to score some goals against the Oilers, who stink at defense and goalie. I also enjoy me some Leafs against the sliding Buffalo Sabres. The Blue Jackets vs Red Wings are always crazy games, and with no healthy Blue Jackets defensemen, this could be the case once again. Tyler Bertuzzi is a Blue Jackets destroyer. The more games that are on the slate, the higher chance people have to screw up in tournaments, so let’s get a couple right here.

Correlated Snipe #1

Nathan Mackinnon – Mikko Rantanen – Artturi Lechkonen

These guys have carried the Avalanche while Nichushkin, Landeskog, Byram, and Girard have been out, and they have been very good. Cale Makar is also stackable here if you somehow can fit the salary. Nathan Mackinnon starts his giant $12.6M per year contract next year, and boy is he playing carefree, which is what we love. Coach Bednar is going to play these guys as much as possible, and Mackinnon/Rantanen have free reign to do whatever they want. The Capitals stink like poo, and their defense is injured like crazy. Oh yeah, and the Avalanche know Darcy Kuemper far too well. The Capitals are old, fading into the abyss, and are missing Orlov specifically on defense which hurts them bad. Keep it simple, jam the Avalanche.

Correlated Snipe #2

Robert Thomas – Vladimir Tarasenko – Pavel Buchnevich

I am keeping this incredibly simple here. My sources are indicating that these 3 are on the top line and top powerplay unit for the Blues. The Blues are at home. The Blues play the Ducks. The Ducks stink. We stack and attack the Ducks. The Ducks have had zero defense when healthy, and now Drysdale and Shattenkirk are dead. The Ducks are the last place team in the NHL. These Blues guys seem affordable across the industry. Play the Blues.

NHL Grinder Value Plays

Grinder #1

Marcus Bjork – Cheap defenseman for the Blue Jackets. The entire team is hurt; he has 3 total NHL games, and 2 NHL points. This kid is trying to live an NHL dream, so he is going to try try try.

Grinder #2

Matt Duchene – Insulting salary on DraftKings.

Grinder #3

Kirby Dach – I have no idea how he is still $4000 on Draftkings

Grinder #4

Lucas Raymond – We attack the Blue Jackets for cheap whenever possible.

Grinder #5

Jamie Benn – Too cheap for a point per game player with multiple slate breaking performances on the season.
