NHL DFS Tournament Picks and Strategy | Snipes & Grinders, Projections for Fanduel and Draftkings 10/24/22

DFS NHL is a volatile sport centering around correlation, stacking and game theory.  Learning how to win cash games and tournaments requires nailing those great upside plays/stacks, grabbing obvious value, and making the proper fades that sink everyone else’s ships.  Let’s look through today’s slate and identify those winning picks in “Snipes and Grinders!”

All of my plays make sense for the entire DFS industry; however, if there is an egregious discrepancy in player salary between sites, I will mention it in my briefing.

Snipe = Good Play
Grinder = Value Plays (Grinders are Valuable)

DFS NHL Slate Overview:

NHL season is here! Check out all of our industry-leading content on dfsarmy.com, and if interested feel free to DM me personally and I’ll get your journey started. Remember, our mission is a process, we grow and learn every day; figure out what our competitors are doing, identify the correct plays, and calculate the correct ways to attack each slate. Every slate is different and can be attacked in different ways. We also have great tools to work with like the domination station (optimizer), the research station, chalk boards, as well as tons of coaches readily available in our discord.

Now – onto hockey

Normal slate all the way around with a few high priced options, as well as some values that we can attack. Other than my 2 favorite stacks, my secondary teams to stack include the Hurricanes against the Canucks, the Leafs against Vegas, and the Penguins against the Oilers. I know I continue beating a dead horse, but Auston Matthews is going to explode at some point, so I will always always always be playing that guy. Honestly, with tons of even matchups, and in what I deem a high scoring slate of games, I do not see a true chalky goalie situation here. The makes cash games a little more unpredictable, but tournaments way more high-scoring and fun.

Correlated Snipe #1

Joe Pavelski – Jason Robertson – Roope Hintz

A little late to the party here with Pavelski potting a hat-trick last time out, but the Stars’ big boys are starting to emerge this season. The Stars are going to rely on these guys to get the job done in a big way, and I love this spot in Ottawa. Ottawa has shown that they are going to score a bunch of goals, as well as concede a bunch of goals this year. Pavelski has been one of the NHL’s best play drivers for several years now, Jason Robertson is a super smart power forward that potted 40 goals last year, and Roope Hintz has shown an all-around solid game since he cracked the Stars’ roster. The Stars stock is on the rise, they are in a great pace up spot, and these 3 correlate on the powerplay as well.

Correlated Snipe #2

Alex Ovechkin – Evgeny Kuznetsov – John Carlson

This stack is more affordable on DraftKings, with Kuznetsov being around $3k cheaper over there for some reason; however, I do like the Capitals in general against the Devils. Alex Ovechkin needs no introduction, and he is back with Evgeny Kuznetsov. John Carlson gets every stat imaginable, and on a slate with Matthews and McDavid, people will not want to spend up on a defenseman. The Devils give up goals, and will continue to give up goals. Their goalie is either going to be one the Capitals know in Vitek Vanecek, or equally crappy Mackenzie Blackwood. The Capitals are somehow going to be a little sneaky in my opinion, especially if you slide John Carlson into those lineups.

NHL Grinder Value Plays

Grinder #1

Evgeny Kuznetsov – Way too cheap on DraftKings. Cash game safe. He is back from his suspension for attempted murder, and ready for multiple assists to Ovechkin.

Grinder #2

Danton Heinen – Has over a point per game, and was playing on the top line with Guentzel out. Heinen had 2 goals in his last game against the Blue Jackets.

Grinder #3

Phil Kessel – Cheeseburger (not hot dog), Phil the thrill Kessel is going to score eventually for the Knights. He is playing the Leafs, and oh baby would it be hilarious. Dirt cheap cheeseburgers in the desert tomorrow night baby.

Grinder #4

Pierre-Luc Dubois – Just way too cheap on DraftKings. Hashtag analysis.
