MLB DFS Top Pitcher Breakdown Strategy | Fanduel and DraftKings Tuesday September 12th, 2022 MAIN SLATE

Big Tuesday night slate here! I will continue to break down my favorite pitchers on the MAIN slate tonight!

MLB DFS pitching breakdowns are key to starting a winning lineup. Finding the best matchups form the foundation to a cash game lineup, and the sneaky matchups exploiting deeper dives find those under-the-radar pitchers capable of winning huge tournament money.  But, knowing which pitcher is best suited for which DFS game format sets you apart from the rest of the casual, fishy players out there just lighting their money on fire nightly.

Our MLB pitching guru, MDell (Matt), walks you through the strategy and metrics for today’s slate.  For an even deeper dive into timeless MLB Pitching Strategy, click here.  And, for proper definitions of the many stats used below, head to Fangraphs.com.  They are easy to find and learn.

Dean Kremer @ WSH

Kremer has been really good for the O’s of late. He faced some really good offenses too, Toronto (twice), Houston, Boston (twice). Kremer has not allowed more than 2 ER in 5 starts and 6 of his last 7 starts. He didn’t start in his last outing, but tossed 5.1 innings out of the bullpen against the Blue Jays after an opener started the game for them. Washington has been pretty good against RHP over the last couple of weeks, but I’m willing to take his recent success against Washington even though they have been better lately. GPP

Jacob deGrom vs CHC

Yeah, deGrom is going to be the guy tonight. He’s only made 7 starts this year, but he’s throwing like he’s been pitching for the last couple years. This matchup against the Cubs is a really good one too as they come into this game with a 24.2% strikeout rate against RHP. Despite not throwing over 95 pitches in a start this season, deGrom has struck out 8 or more hitters in 6 of his 7 starts and in his first start of the year he tossed 5 innings with 6 K’s. He’s going to be his dominant self again against this Cubs team. Coming off a wonderful start against the Pirates in his last start. ALL FORMATS

Joe Ryan vs KCR

Ryan has been really good at home this year in Minnesota and has over a 2.00 ERA lower at home this year. In 13 starts at home, he is allowing just a .193 batting average against and a 3.13 ERA. In 3 starts against the Royals this season, Ryan has a 1.59 ERA and allowing just a .210 batting average against. Kansas City is striking out just 22.4% in the last 2 weeks, but their offense doesn’t worry me too much. They are hitting only .228 against RHP in the last 2 weeks. Their roster has just a .182 batting average against him in their career. GPP/SP2 DK

Jordan Montgomery vs MIL

Montgomery has been nothing but amazing since getting traded from the Yankees at the deadline. He has had just 1 bad start with the Cards since then. Other than that, he has not allowed more than 1 ER in any start except his start against Atlanta. The Brewers have really been struggling against left-handed pitching as they come into this game with a 27.7% strikeout rate and hitting just .185 against LHP in the last two weeks. I love how he’s looked in a Cards uniform so far and I don’t see why he wouldn’t have another great outing here. ALL FORMATS

Clayton Kershaw @ ARI

Kershaw now has 2 straight decent starts since he came back from injury where he missed a month. In the 2 starts, he has 11 innings and 14 K’s while allowing just 3 ER. Arizona has been pretty good of late, but against LHP they have a 25% strikeout rate, their success has been better against righties. Christian Walker and Ketel Marte are the 2 guys who have the most success against Kershaw with 6 HR combined. If he can get around those two guys he should have another good start against Arizona. He has actually been a bit better on the road this year in 10 starts and a .203 BAA. ALL FORMATS

Kyle Wright @ SFG

Coming off one of his worst starts of the year against the A’s, Wright looks to bounce back here against the Giants. Over the last 2 weeks, SFG has really been struggling on offense. They have a 27.5% strikeout rate against RHP in that span and even though Wright isn’t a big strikeout guy, he could get a few extra K’s here tonight. He has struggled a bit more on the road for the Braves this year, but he still has 17 wins, the most in the MLB. The one time he did face the Giants, he did struggle mightily against the Giants, allowing 4 ER and 10 hits in 5.1 innings. I do like his chances in GPPs to bounce back here tonight. GPP

Yu Darvish @ SEA

Tough matchup against the Mariners here for Darvish, but I do have some interest in him for GPPs tonight. He has had his struggles on the road, but his last start on the road against the Dodgers he struck out 9 hitters in 7 innings and allowed just 2 hits. Seattle does come into this game as hot as anyone, but if there’s a guy that  can slow them down it’s Darvish. Especially if he’s on his game here. He did follow that up with an iffy start against Arizona, but was still able to come out with a win in that start. Seattle’s offense is only 15-96 against Darvish with a 35.4% strikeout rate. He will need to replicate his past success against the Mariners roster. GPP

Gerrit Cole @ BOS

Cole has had his struggles against Boston at times, but he has been lights out lately for the Yankees. Coming off a masterful outing against the Twins last time out where he struck out 14 over 6.2 innings. He does have his struggles and a guy like Devers OWNS Cole, but the Sox offense hasn’t really been all that great of late. Cole still has massive upside against the Red Sox in a 2 game series the Yankees need to win. ALL FORMATS

Logan Gilbert vs SDP

Gilbert is coming off 2 great starts against the White Sox and TIgers in his last 2 starts, scoring very well fantasy wise. The Padres haven’t been hitting very well over the last couple of weeks against RHP, but also aren’t striking out a lot. The one thing I don’t really like is that his strikeout numbers go back and forth and he doesn’t always go super deep into games. But the Padres .229 average to RHP in the last 2 weeks shows me they aren’t hitting very well against them. Don’t mind him for GPPS. GPP
