NFL DFS Winning Lineups

My Take on a Consistent MLB DFS Process – Looking at Pitchers

I always start an MLB slate by looking at pitching, not only do you get a grasp on who the pitchers are that you want to target, but gives you a holistic look at the slate as well. Breaking down pitching also gives you an idea of what offenses are in good spots against bad/vulnerable pitchers. Since I do a lot of the pitching articles for the DFS ARMY, I have a little different approach to picking pitchers, but I will list a few below that caught my eye (on the ALL slates) given the matchups they are in tonight.

  • Nestor Cortes Jr.
  • JP Sears
  • Cal Quantrill
  • Cristian Javier
  • Dylan Cease
  • Charlie Morton
  • Carlos Rodon

Pittsburgh Pirates @ Cincinnati Reds (-154)

Pitchers:

Pirates – Roansy Contreras

Reds – Nick Lodolo

Rundown:

The Reds come into this game as decent favorites, and the O/U is 8 runs right now.  Likely because of how well Lodolo has been throwing lately. He’s a guy with great strikeout stuff as he has 102 K’s in just 81 innings this year. PIT comes into this game striking out a ton against LHP and he’s coming off a great start against the Brewers. I like Lodolo as a GPP option in the early slate here tonight. Contreras and the Pirates I’m not too excited about in this one as the Reds have a been a bit better of late against RHP.

PIT 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Bryan Reynolds, Oneil Cruz, Ke’Bryan Hyes

GPP Note: Team ISO of .183 over the 2 last weeks against LHP

CIN 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: TJ Freidl, Jake Fraley (if he plays), Jonathan India

GPP Note: Team ISO of ..170 and low K% against RHP in the last 2 weeks

Los Angeles Angels @ Cleveland Guardians

Pitchers:

Angels – Patrick Sandoval

Guardians – Cal Quantrill

Rundown:

No line is available right now as of writing this article. This is a decent pitching matchup, but neither are that great and a guy like Quantrill isn’t a big strikeout guy. The Angels offense isn’t hitting that well against RHP over the last couple of weeks, but guys like Ohtani and Trout are always great plays. For the Guardians, Jose Ramirez is always in play and they have a few others that can hit the ball. On the early slate, I don’t mind using guys from either team in this one tonight. CLE has really struggled hitting against LHP for power, but have a middle of the road batting average.

LAA 5-star plays: Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani

4-star plays: David Fletcher, Taylor Ward

GPP Note: Team ISO of .146 in the last 2 weeks against RHP, but a high K%

CLE 5-star plays: Jose Ramirez

4-star plays: Amed Rosario, Andres Gimenez

GPP Note: Team ISO of .029 over the last 2 weeks against LHP, but low K% at 17.2%

Houston Astros (-263) @ Detroit Tigers

Pitchers:

Astros – Cristian Javier

Tigers – Joey Wentz

Rundown:

Game total of 8 here with the Astros being HUGE favorites against the young lefty in Wentz. There is really nothing that I like about the Tigers here tonight as Javier has been really good for the Astros all year. I expect the Astros to have a really good game against the rookie lefty here tonight and love the Astros offense here.

HOU 5-star plays: Alex Bregman, Jose Altuve

4-star plays: Kyle Tucker, Yordan Alvarez, Trey Mancini

GPP Note: Team ISO of .123 over the last 2 weeks against LHP, but 19.7% K rate.

DET 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: NONE

GPP Note: Just don’t play the Tigers today against Javier

Colorado Rockies @ Chicago White Sox (-227)

Pitchers:

Rockies – Kyle Freeland

White Sox – Dylan Cease

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 7.5. Cease has been amazing for the White Sox this year and is running for the AL Cy Young award this season. Freeland is coming off a really good start as well. Both offenses I don’t love for the afternoon slate here, but I do have more confidence in the White Sox offense against a lefty than I do the Rockies against Cease.

COL 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Cron, Blackmon

GPP Note: Team ISO of .154 in the last 2 weeks vs RHP but striking out 26.2% of the time

CHW 5-star plays: Jose Abreu

4-star plays:  AJ Pollock, Eloy Jimenez, Luis Robert

GPP Note: Team ISO of .331 over the last 2 weeks against LHP

DFS MLB Weather Picks

Atlanta Braves (-115) @ San Francisco Giants

Pitchers:

Braves – Charlie Morton

Giants – Carlos Rodon

Rundown:

Game total of 7.5 here right now, but I would bet the under if I was a betting man. Both of these starts have the ability to go deep into games and limit the damage of the other offenses. Atlanta can CRUSH lefties, while the Giants have been striking out a ton against righties (29.8%) in the last 2 weeks. I don’t really like much on the offense side of these games and will likely use more of the pitchers than hitters in this one.

ATL 5-star plays: Austin Riley, Ronald Acuna Jr, Dansby Swanson

4-star plays: Vaughn Grisson, Matt Olson, Michael Harris II

GPP Note: Team ISO of .208 over the 2 last weeks to LHP, and they CRUSH lefties

SFG 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Brandon Crawford, Evan Longoria, Joc Pederson

GPP Note: Team ISO of .172 vs RHP in the last 2 weeks, but striking out the most in MLB

San Diego Padres @ Seattle Mariners (-149)

Pitchers:

Padres – Mike Clevinger

Mariners – Luis Castillo

Rundown:

Game total of 7.5 in this one here, but again I do think it will end up going down to 7. Castillo has been really good for Seattle. Mike Clevinger has not been as great for the Padres and he isn’t striking out a ton of hitters. I do think that Seattle should be favorites in this one and I want to bet on the Mariners ML here.

SDP 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Juan Soto, Manny Machado, Jake Cronenworth

GPP Note: Team ISO of .157 vs RHP in L2 weeks

SEA 5-star plays: Julio Rodriguez

4-star plays: Ty France, Eugenio Suarez, Mitch Haniger

GPP Note: Team ISO of .236 vs RHP in the last 2 weeks

Philadelphia Phillies (-130) @ Miami Marlins

Pitchers:

Phillies – Kyle Gibson

Marlins – Edward Cabrera

Rundown:

Another 7.5 total game here tonight. Both starting pitchers have been throwing the ball pretty well of late for their respective teams. The Phillies offense is definitely more dangerous than the Marlins and I would trust Gibson more than Cabrera in this one. I think the Phillies take the win in this one with the Marlins struggling on offense of late. If I was to pick a pitcher in this one, it would definitely be Gibson as the Marlins have a 27% K rate against RHP in the last couple of weeks and are barely hitting as a team.

PHI 5-star plays: Bryce Harper

4-star plays: JT Realmuto, Alec Bohm, Jean Segura, Rhys Hoskins

GPP Note: Team ISO of .220 over the last 2 weeks vs RHP.

MIA 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Jon Berti

GPP Note: Team ISO of .110 over the last 2 weeks against RHP

Baltimore Orioles (-135)@ Washington Nationals

Pitchers:

Orioles – Tyler Wells

Nationals – Patrick Corbin

Rundown:

This game opens with a total of 8.5 and it looks like a solid offensive game with the starting pitchers in this one. I would not touch either of these pitchers on the main slate tonight as both are unpredictable for their teams. Even though there isn’t a ton to trust with both of these teams, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this game be very high scoring.

BAL 5-star plays: Adley Rutschman, Cedric Mullins, Anthony Santander

4-star plays: Jesus Aguilar, Austin Hays, Ryan Mountcastle

GPP Note: Team ISO of .120 over the last 2 weeks against LHP, but Corin isn’t throwing well for the Nats this year.

WSH 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Luke Voit, Cesar Hernandez, Joey Meneses

GPP Note: Team ISO of .165 over the last 2 weeks

MLB DFS Research Projections

Tampa Bay Rays @ Toronto Blue Jays (-115)

Pitchers:

Rays – Drew Rasmussen

Blue Jays – Ross Stripling

Rundown:

Not sure what side to go with on this game here. It is truly a toss up game. The game total is 8, but leaning on the over SLIGHTLY at -114. Both of these starters have been throwing the ball very well, but we know how September baseball can get with 2 teams fighting for Wild Card positions and both really do have a chance at taking the AL East with how the Yankees have been playing lately. I’m being honest with you all here that I don’t know which way this game is going to go. Rasmussen has been great and Stripling has also been good for the Jays here.

TBR 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: David Peralta, Manuel Margot, Wander Franco, Yandy Diaz

GPP Note: Team ISO of .109 vs RHP in the last 2 weeks

TOR 5-star plays: Bo Bichette, Vladimir Guerrero

4-star plays: Loudres Gurriel Jr, Teoscar Hernandez, George Springer

GPP Note: Team ISO of .166 vs RHP in the last 2 weeks, but striking out 16.8% of the time.

Chicago Cubs @ New York Mets

Pitchers:

Cubs – Drew Smyly

Mets – TBD

Rundown:

We don’t know who is going to start for the Mets as of writing this at 10pm Tuesday night, but we do know that the Mets will be facing Drew Smyly here. I do absolutely love the Mets offense against a LHP here tonight and I expect this total to open at around 8 in this one with Smyly don’t being the best pitcher there is. The Cubs offense has also been ‘meh’ of late so it will likely be with the Mets offense.

CHC 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Ian Happ,

GPP Note: Team ISO of .154 over the last 2 weeks

NYM 5-star plays: Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor

4-star plays: Eduardo Escobar

GPP Note: Team ISO of .196 against LHP in the last 2 weeks

New York Yankees (-125) @ Boston Red Sox

Pitchers:

Yankees – Nestor Cortes Jr.

Red Sox – Brayan Bello

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8.5 tonight. They are in extra innings here now tonight so the bullpens may be taxed tonight. Cortes wasn’t awful in his return start and Bello is hit or miss for the Sox and can allow a ton of runs. Judge is having a career year in his contract year for the Yanks and the Sox always play the Yankees tough even though they are pretty much out of the playoff race. I expect this game to be higher scoring than last night’s game.

NYY 5-star plays: Aaron Judge

4-star plays: Gleyber Torres, Giancarlo Stanton, Isiash Kiner-Falefa, Josh Donaldson

GPP Note: Team ISO of .169 over the last 2 weeks vs RHP, but Judge has been their offense

BOS 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Xander Bogaerts, J.D. Martinez, Tommy Pham

GPP Note: Team ISO of .136 over the last 2 weeks vs LHP

MLB DFS Winning Lineups $50,000

Kansas City Royals vs Minnesota Twins (-200)

Pitchers:

Royals – Zack Greinke

Twins – Sonny Gray

Rundown:

Weird that the total of this game opens at 7.5 with the 2 starts here. I’m assuming a lot has to do with the Royals offense being really bad. I do favor the Twins side of things here as Greinke isn’t a strikeout guy and the Twins should be able to put a lot of balls in play in this one tonight.

KCR 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Salvador Perez,

GPP Note: Team ISO of .162 vs RHP in the last 2 weeks

MIN 5-star plays: Carlos Correa, Jose Miranda

4-star plays: Gio urshela, Luis Arraez

GPP Note: Team ISO of .137 vs RHP in the last 2 weeks

Milwaukee Brewers (-112)@ St. Louis Cardinals

Pitchers:

Brewers – Corbin Burnes

Cardinals – Adam Wainwright

Rundown:

The lowest total of the night here at just 7 runs here. Wainwright has seen crazy splits with home starts this year and him and Yadi are making history this season. Burnes has also been really good for the Brewers, but the Cards offense is just crazy right now. I do think this game can be a bit lower scoring on the night with 2 really good starters taking the hill for both teams. I don’t mind some one-offs for the teams in this one with guys who can hit home-runs.

MIL 5-star plays: Christian Yelich

4-star plays: Andrew McCutchen, Kolten Wong

GPP Note: Team ISO of .176 over the last week.

STL 5-star plays: Paul Goldschmidt, Nolan Arenado

4-star plays: Tommy Edman, Corey Dickerson,

GPP Note: Team ISO of .191 over the last week.

Oakland A’s @ Texas Rangers (-154)

Pitchers:

A’s – JP Sears

Rangers – Dane Dunning

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8. Sears has been really good since being traded to the Athletics and the Rangers offense isn’t something that worries me that much. On the other side, Dunning is hit or miss and has been more of reverse splits guy in his career. Neither offense really scares me in this one, so I do have interest in both starters for GPPs, but I do think that Sears has a massive upside in this start on the road tonight.

OAK 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Sean Murphy, Dermis Garcia, Ramon Laureano

GPP Note: Team ISO of .134 vs RHP in the last 2 weeks

TEX 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Corey Seager, Adolis Garcia

GPP Note: Team ISO of .132 vs LHP in the last 2 weeks

Los Angeles Dodgers  @ Arizona Diamondbacks

Pitchers:

Dodgers – TBD

Diamondbacks – Zach Davies

Rundown:

We aren’t sure who is going to be starting for the Dodgers as I am writing this right now, but their offense has been just so good lately. It’s hard to really go against the Dodgers, so I have no interest in Davies here tonight. The Dodgers should be able to roll over Davies in this one.

LAD 5-star plays: Justin Turner, Freddie Freeman, Trea Turner

4-star plays: Max Muncy, Cody Bellinger, Mookie Betts

GPP Note: Team ISO of .195 vs RHP over the 2 last weeks

ARI 5-star plays: Daulton Varsho

4-star plays: Ketel Marte, Stone Garrett (if starts), Corbin Carrol

GPP Note: Team ISO of .168 vs RHP over the 2 last weeks.

Stacks of the Day: Main Slate

  1. Los Angeles Dodgers
  2. New York Yankees
  3. New York Mets

MLB Dinger of the Day – Eduaro Escobar – New York Mets

Escobar isn’t a massive homerun guy, but hs ie 7-12 with 4 HR and a double against Smyly in his career and the mets can crush LHP.
