Early MLB Slate Player Projections and Stacks:

Washington Nationals (+250) @ St. Louis Cardinals (-303)

Nationals – 2.8 IRT

Cardinals – 4.9 IRT

Rundown:

We’ve got a split slate of games on tap today, the early games are the main slate for DraftKings while the late games are the main slate on FanDuel. We’ll start in St. Louis where Josiah Gray will take the mound against a tougher Cardinals lineup. He has struggled as of late and is coming off of a bad start against the Mets where he gave up six earned runs. I don’t see a need to get to him as a big underdog in this one. Adam Wainwright will get the start for the Cardinals and looks like a great option on this slate. The Nationals have a 2.8 implied run total and Wainwright has a 19.2% strikeout rate on the season. As a -303 favorite he has some strong win equity as well.

WAS 5-star plays: None

4-star plays: None

GPP Note: Wainwright is a great option on this slate.

STL 5-star plays: Nolan Arenado, Paul Goldschmidt

4-star plays: Lars Nootbar, Brendan Donovan, Tyler O’Neill

GPP Note: This team just continues to put up good numbers and look like a nice stack again on this slate.

Cincinnati Reds (+125) @ Chicago Cubs (-145)

Implied Run Totals:

Reds – 3.7 IRT

Cubs – 4.4 IRT

Rundown:

The Reds will send Luis Cessa to the mound who is slowly working his pitch count up, he threw 69 pitches last time out, so I would expect that to come up even a little more here. I don’t think we need to get to him as a starting option on this slate, but it’s noteworthy at the very least. He has a 5.18 ERA and with just a 17.6% strikeout rate on the season, the reward doesn’t outweigh the risk. Adrian Sampson will start for the Cubs and is another guy I wouldn’t be all that thrilled to use as a pitching option… maybe on DraftKings where you can use him as an SP2 against a bad offense, but that’s about it.

CIN 5-star plays: Jake Fraley

4-star plays: Jonathan India, TJ Friedl

GPP Note: I don’t mind some one-offs or even a mini-stack if you’re not using Sampson as an SP2.

CHC 5-star plays: Seiya Suzuki

4-star plays: Nick Madrigal, Ian Happ, Christopher Morel

GPP Note: I had some interest in the Cubs last night but it didn’t exactly work out, they’re more of a mini-stack team as well.

San Francisco Giants (+180) @ Milwaukee Brewers (-210)

Implied Run Totals:

Giants – 3.1 IRT

Brewers – 4.5 IRT

Rundown:

We’ll round out the early games with Scott Alexander opening up a double-header in Milwaukee with Jakob Junis to follow. I don’t see myself having a ton of interest in either of them but I think you can make a case for Junis as an SP2 due to the limited options. He has at least 10.4 DraftKings points in three of his last four games. Meanwhile, Corbin Burnes will start for the Brewers and will look to bounce back after a few rough outings his last three times out. He’s given up at least four earned runs in three straight which is odd to see from him. He’s still my favorite pitcher on the plate however due to the matchup and he’s still rocking a 30.4% strikeout rate on the season.

SFG 5-star plays: None

4-star plays: Mike Yastrzemski, Joc Pederson

GPP Note: Just one-offs against Burnes.

MIL 5-star plays: Christian Yelich, Hunter Renfroe

4-star plays: Willy Adames, Kolten Wong, Rowdy Tellez

GPP Note: The Brewers look solid here against Junis and company on this early slate.

Watching the weather is half the battle when it comes to MLB DFS. The DFS Army Weather Station has you covered, from games that have delay and postponement potential, to games that could have significant winds that will play a roll in selecting a team to stack or a pitcher to use.

Main MLB Slate Player Projections and Stacks:

Miami Marlins (+115) @ Philadelphia Phillies (-136)

Implied Run Totals:

Marlins – 3.4 IRT

Phillies – 3.8 IRT

Rundown:

Onto the later games where Sandy Alcantara will take on this Phillies lineup on the road. Alcantara has been a bit of a rollercoaster as of late with at least 30 DraftKings points in two of his last four, but the other two games were negative fantasy performances against the Dodgers and Braves which is somewhat understandable. He’s averaged 20.7 DraftKings points per game in four starts against the Phillies this season and is a guy I’ll go right back to on this slate. Speaking of the Phillies, they’ll send Kyle Gibson to the mound in a nice matchup against a weaker offense. He’s coming off of a bad start last time out but has at least 52 FanDuel points in two of his previous three starts. I have no issue with him as a value option on this slate.

MIA 5-star plays: None

4-star plays: Jon Berti, Avisail Garcia, JJ Bleday

GPP Note: I don’t love this lineup, but there are some fine one-offs on a short slate.

PHI 5-star plays: None

4-star plays: Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper, Rhys Hoskins, JT Realmuto

GPP Note: Alcantara is an elite pitcher, but this Phillies team has some bats that can do some damage.

Minnesota Twins (+125) @ New York Yankees (-144)

Implied Run Totals:

Twins – 3.3 IRT

Yankees – 3.9 IRT

Rundown:

Sonny Gray will get the start for the Twins as they continue their serious against the Yankees. I originally didn’t want to get all that much of Gray on this slate, but the price tag is awesome at $6.8k on DraftKings and $8.6k on FanDuel. The matchup and ballpark are tough but he still has a 23.7% strikeout rate on the season and is a guy you can make case for here. The Yankees will send Nestor Cortes to the mound as he returns making his first start since August 21st. He may be on a pitch count in this one just due to it being his first start since returning from the IL but I do still think he’s in play due to the size of the slate.

MIN 5-star plays: None

4-star plays: Carlos Correa, Jose Miranda, Gary Sanchez

GPP Note: More of a mini-stack team as they’re a bit banged up, but I do like the ballpark.

NYY 5-star plays: Aaron Judge

4-star plays: Giancarlo Stanton, Ronald Guzman, Oswald Peraza, DJ LeMahieu

GPP Note: The Yankees look solid here if you’re not playing Sonny Gray.

Chicago White Sox (-195) @ Oakland Athletics (+163)

Implied Run Totals:

White Sox – 4.2 IRT

Athletics – 3.0 IRT

Rundown:

We’ll round out the slate with Dylan Cease getting the start for the White Sox as they head into Oakland to take on this bad A’s offense. Cease is my favorite pitcher on the slate due to the matchup and size of the slate. He has at least 46 FanDuel points in back-to-back games and has a 31.4% strikeout rate on the season. Oakland will start JP Sears who hasn’t been terrible for DFS and has actually been pretty good in real life. He has a 2.37 ERA and at least 15.1 DraftKings points in three of his last four games. You can make a case for him as an SP2 if you want to spend up on bats and just play both pitchers in this game of if you want to pair him with Alcantara.

CHW 5-star plays: Eloy Jimenez, Jose Abreu

4-star plays: Andrew Vaughn, Yasmani Grandal, Luis Robert

GPP Note: If you don’t play Sears (which I don’t really expect, he’s more of a GPP guy with small exposure) the White Sox look good.

OAK 5-star plays: None

4-star plays: Ramon Laureano

GPP Note: Cease is my favorite option on the slate.
