My Take on a Consistent MLB DFS Process – Looking at Pitchers

I always start an MLB slate by looking at pitching, not only do you get a grasp on who the pitchers are that you want to target, but gives you a holistic look at the slate as well. Breaking down pitching also gives you an idea of what offenses are in good spots against bad/vulnerable pitchers. I start my research by going straight to the  MLB Carnage Report this is where we can analyze all the pitchers on the slate in a compact, yet detailed manner. Below are the three pitchers that jumped out to me at first glance, good or bad.

  • Tarik Skubal
  • Jon Gray
  • Carlos Rodon

We have a BRAND NEW update to our MLB Domination Station lineup optimizer with advanced user-controlled scoring systems inside.  You control how the lineups are built from three main uses of our projections: Points-based, DFSA Grades, or the unique blend of Hybrid Scoring!  The Domination Station will help you create 150 of the highest projected lineups in a matter of minutes. New York Yankees @ Houston Astros (-125) – Game 1

Pitchers:

Yankees – Undecided

Astros – Cristian Javier

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8. As I write this, we are looking at Jameson Taillon as the game 1 starter but nothing has been mad official. These teams went into the All-Star break on different paths. I don’t put a ton of stock into recent numbers with guys getting a few days off but it’s hard to not notice the way the Yankees finished the first half offensively. Javier did no-hit the Yankees just under a month ago. I am going to go out on a limb and say he won’t be doing that today.

NYY 5-star plays: Giancarlo Stanton

4-star plays: Aaron Judge, Matt Carpenter

GPP Note: Team ISO of .228 over the last week.

HOU 5-star plays: Kyle Tucker

4-star plays: Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman

GPP Note: Team ISO of .075 over the last week.

New York Yankees @ Houston Astros – Game 2

Pitchers:

Yankees – Undecided

Astros – Luis Garcia

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information. I am seeing rumblings that Gerrit Cole will start game 2 but we definitely need to verify everything as I have seen teams flip-flop their starters in a doubleheader scenario. I am not sure if Yordan is eligible to come off of the IL or if he’s healthy enough yet so that’s some important news we need, as well.

NYY 5-star plays: Giancarlo Stanton

4-star plays: Anthony Rizzo, Matt Carpenter

GPP Note: Team ISO of .228 over the last week.

HOU 5-star plays: Kyle Tucker

4-star plays: Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman

GPP Note: Team ISO of .075 over the last week.

Watching the weather is half the battle when it comes to MLB DFS. The DFS Army Weather Station has you covered, from games that have delay and postponement potential to games that could have significant winds that will play a role in selecting a team to stack or a pitcher to use.

DFS MLB Weather Picks

Texas Rangers @ Miami Marlins (-115)

Pitchers:

Rangers – Jon Gray

Marlins – Pablo Lopez

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 7. I was shocked to see a total of just 7 in this one. I know that both pitchers are capable of being dominant but I would have thought an 8 total makes sense. Lopez has been absolutely dominant at home so far this season, so that probably plays into it a lot. Gray obviously gets a struggling offensive opponent so he’s definitely an interesting option but let’s be honest, you already know I just hate Jon Gray.

TEX 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Corey Seager, Leody Taveras

GPP Note: Team ISO of .116 over the last week.

MIA 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Joey Wendle

GPP Note: Team ISO of .043 over the last week.

Detroit Tigers (-155) @ Oakland A’s – Game 1

Pitchers:

Tigers – Tarik Skubal

A’s – Zach Logue

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 7.5. Logue absolutely dominated the Tigers in one of his earlier starts but this is a guy that has given up 7 HRs in less than 30 innings at the MLB level this season. He’s certainly in play because we know how weak the Tigers are overall at this point. Skubal should be extremely popular against whatever it is that you want to call the OAK lineup. There are a few guys in this game who can hit LHPs well but not enough to make me want to stack either side.

DET 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Javy Baez, Miguel Cabrera

GPP Note: Team ISO of .070 over the last week.

OAK 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Ramon Laureano

GPP Note: Team ISO of .134 over the last week.

Detroit Tigers @ Oakland A’s (-160) – Game 2

Pitchers:

Tigers – Garrett Hill

A’s – Frankie Montas

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 7. Montas returns from the IL in what could be his last start with OAK before being dealt. It’s an extremely important start for trade reasons so there will be a LOT of eyes on this one. Hill has some strong minor league numbers and while he was strong in his debut, he really struggled in his last start.

DET 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Victor Reyes, Miguel Cabrera

GPP Note: Team ISO of .070 over the last week.

OAK 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Ramon Laureano

GPP Note: Team ISO of .134 over the last week.

MLB DFS Winning Lineups $50,000

San Francisco Giants @ Los Angeles Dodgers (-145)

Pitchers:

Giants – Carlos Rodon

Dodgers – Mitch White

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8.5. I will be honest and say that the Dodgers being a decent favorite in a White vs Rodon match-up catches me off guard. I think we see a little bit of an All-Star party hangover from the Dodgers plus they haven’t hit Rodon at all in their careers. From a betting standpoint, I think I want some action on the Giants to win this one tonight.

SF 5-star plays: Brandon Belt

4-star plays: Austin Slater, Mike Yastrzemski

GPP Note: Team ISO of .213 over the last week.

LAD 5-star plays: Will Smith

4-star plays: Freddie Freeman

GPP Note: Team ISO of .216 over the last week.

Stacks of the Day: Main Slate

  1. New York Yankees
  2. Houston Astros
  3. Detroit Tigers (gross!)

MLB Dinger of the Day – Kyle Tucker, Houston
