CFL DFS – Week 3 Early Look

Canadian Fantasy Football (CFL) can be incredibly lucrative if you know how to manipulate the roster requirements and scoring. Daily fantasy players (with little experience) can profit quickly with just some basic information because very little is written about CFL inside the industry. My name is DFS Spreadsheets (@dfs_spreadsheet on Twitter)  I’m a data analyst by trade, and love digging into the intricacies that give our players advantages no one else can deliver.

The easiest way to chat, ask questions, or dive deeper into strategic thinking is through our FREE Discord Channels below…

As always, I will be posting team depth charts in Discord and will make changes to my player pool in there. Good luck, hope to see everyone at the top.

SASKATCHEWAN @ MONTREAL

Last week was the coming out party for Jamal Morrow-RB-$7500. He had 126 yards and a TD on the ground and caught all four of his targets for 28 yards. Shaq Evans-WR-$8900 led the team through the air with 5/81 on 8 targets. Mitchell Picton-WR-$2900 got the start with Duke Williams out and had a 4/56/1 stat line on 5 targets. He’s a salary saver this week if Williams is out again. I’m not sure if I’ll have much of Fajardo this week. He’s the most expensive QB by $900 with his $11,200 price tag.

What a mess in Montreal. They are still without their star running back and now have a QB controversy. Adams got yanked after just four pass attempts last week. I don’t trust either Montreal QB based on how the coaching staff handled last week. Eugene Lewis-WR-$10600 and Reggie White Jr.-WR-$5700 have been the only consistent offensive players for Montreal and the only two I want any part of until this team figures things out.

Favourite Plays:

Shaq Evans-WR-$8900
Duke Williams-WR-$8600 (if he plays)
Jamal Morrow-RB-$7500
Kian Schaffer-Baker-WR-$7000
Mitchell Picton-WR-$2900 (if Williams is out)

Eugene Lewis-WR-$10600
Reggie White Jr.-WR-$5700

HAMILTON @ WINNIPEG

What a difference a week makes. Dane Evans-QB-$8500 went bananas last week going 36/51/423/3 and only had his salary jump $200 this week. I’m guessing the lack of salary jump has to do with the fact that they travel to Winnipeg this week. Winnipeg’s defence hasn’t been as fierce as the last few years and they have actually given up an average of 355 pass yards so far this season. Bralon Addison-WR-$9400 & Tim White-WR-$8100 are second and third in the CFL in targets with 20 and 18 respectively.  Steven Dunbar Jr.-WR-$7300 had a 6/65/1 stat line last week and has 12 targets and two receiving TDS this season.  Sean Thomas-Erlington-RB-$6000 got the start but was used more as a receiver as he only rushed for 18 yards on five carries but he hauled in 7 passes for 72 yards and a TD on 9 targets.

The defending champions haven’t exactly lit it up so far but have found ways to win games and are 2-0 to start the season. One major issue is the run game. Brady Oliveira-RB-$7100 has been brutal so far, mustering a total of  65 yards on 24 carries. I’d like to see them give Johnny Augustin-RB-$3800 as he as shown a lot more with his limited touches 10/53. Greg Ellingson-WR-$8800 leads the way with 14 targets and 145 receiving yards. Rookie Dalton Schoen-WR-$4300 has been productive with 7/121/1 this season. He is tied for second on the team in targets (9) and catches (7) with Rasheed Bailey-WR-$7600 but he has been more productive as Bailey has only accumulated 68 with 0 TDs.

Favourite Plays:

Bralon Addison-WR-$9400
Dane Evans-QB-$8500
Tim White-WR-$8100
Thomas-Erlington-RB-$6000 (if he starts)

Greg Ellingson-WR-$8800
Dalton Schoen-WR-$4300

NFL Season Pass DFS

EDMONTON @ CALGARY

It was a better performance by Edmonton last week but they still lost. They held Fajardo to 247 passing yards but they got gashed on the ground once again giving up 184 yards on 28 attempts. Nick Arbuckle-QB-$8800 has been brutal so far this season with 569 passing yards, 1 TD and 5 picks. Kenny Lawler Jr.-WR-$10100 leads the league in receptions and targets and he is second in the league with 108 air yards per game. Emmanuel Arceneaux-WR-$2700 is second on the team with 104 yards on 5 targets. He is a decent punt play, especially if Derel Walker-WR-$6500 is out again.

Calgary trailed 24-3 at the half last week but dominated the second half and pulled off a 33-30 OT win. This is a great matchup for the Calgary running game. The issue is that both Ka’Deem Carey-RB-$10000 and Peyton Logan-RB-$3200 left the game with injuries. Through the air, Kamar Jorden-WR-$8700 leads the league with 113 air yards per game. Richie Sindani-WR-$5400 is tied with Jorden with 11 receptions, second in yards (136) and second in targets (13) along with Malik Henry-WR-$5100. Reggie Begelton-WR-$9900 is third on the team in targets (12), second in receptions (8) and third in yards(70).

Favourite Plays:

Kenny Lawler Jr.-WR-$10100
Derel Walker-WR-$6500 (if he plays)
Emmanuel Arceneaux-WR-$2700

Ka’Deem Carey-RB-$10000 (if he plays)
Peyton Logan-RB-$3200 (if he gets the start)
Bo Levi Mitchell-QB-$9000
Reggie Begelton-WR-$9900
Kamar Jorden-WR-$8700
Richie Sindani-WR-$5400
Malik Henry-WR-$5100

TORONTO @ BC

Toronto had a bye week in Week 1 so last week was their first game. Andrew Harris-RB-$9600 was used a lot before he left the game with an injury. He had 18 carries for 87 yards and caught 3 out of 4 targets for 23 yards. I like the usage he got but he’s priced pretty high and lingering issues with RBs are concerning. Kurleigh Gittens Jr.-WR-$7200 led the team with 6 receptions and 8 targets and was second with 66 yards, one behind Markeith Ambles-WR-$7100. Brandon Banks-WR-$9500 was targeted 6 times in his Argo debut and caught 3 for 39 yards and a TD. I’d like to see more from Banks before spending up for him. DaVaris Daniels-WR-$7800 had 4/41 on 6 targets. Eric Rogers-WR-$7400 and Juwan Brescacin-WR-$6200 did not play due to injury. Cam Phillips-WR-$2800  got the start and hauled in 3/4 targets for 31 yards. I don’t mind him as a punt play if he gets the start. This is a very talented and balanced receiving group and it’s very difficult to predict who will be getting the ball on any given night.

BC had the bye week last week after destroying Edmonton 59-15 in Week 1. Nathan Rourke-QB-$9500 flashed his star player potential going 26/29 and 3 TDS through the air and adding 78 yards and 2 TDs on the ground on 7 carries. He is the 4th priced QB and is only $100 more than Collaros for some reason. He has a lot of upside and will most likely be the highest owned QB. James Butler-RB-$9000 broke out in Week 1 as well scoring 4 total Tds (had 3 all of last season). He went 17/108/2 on the ground and 6/32/2 through the air. He was also the only RB to get any carries (and was only RB on depth chart) even in the lopsided game. Lucky Whitehead-WR-$10800 is the highest priced WR this week. He led the team in targets (6), receptions(6) and yards (110). Keon Hatcher-WR-$3000 went 4/41/1 on 4 targets. Bryan Burnham-WR-$9700 had 4 targets and 32 yards.

Favourite Plays:

Eric Rogers-WR-$7400 (if healthy)
Kurleigh Gittens Jr.-WR-$7200
DaVaris Daniels-WR-$7800

Lucky Whitehead-WR-$10800
Bryan Burnham-WR-$9700
Nathan Rourke-QB-$9500
James Butler-RB-$9000
Keon Hatcher-WR-$3000
