Brooks Koepka Latest PGA Tour Star to Leave for LIV Golf – Who’s Next?

4-time major winner, Brooks Koepka, becomes the latest PGA Tour star to abandon ship for the Saudi-backed LIV Golf events.  An expected announcement is due Tuesday, June 21st, and other names may also follow.

The writing may have been on the wall during last week’s US Open media interviews ahead of tournament play.  When asked directly about LIV Golf, Brooks scoffed, “I’m ready to play the US Open and I think it kind of sucks, too, you all are throwing a black cloud over the US Open.  It’s one of my favorite events.  I don’t know why you guys are doing that.  The more legs you give it, the more you keep talking about it.

Today’s fans know they can’t trust words coming from an athlete’s mouth.  Just a couple weeks ago, Brooks stated he played the PGA Tour because “there isn’t any other option.”  Well, now there is, and it appears Brooks Koepka is taking advantage.

With Brooks Koepka Leaving, Who’s Next?

LIV Golf is expected to announce most of its upcoming field soon, and some big names may be added to those we already know abandoned the PGA Tour.  Names like Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Reed, Dustin Johnson, Abraham Ancer, and more.

Another rumored to be joining LIV Golf with Brooks Koepka is young, budding star Colin Morikawa.  Both players stripped their social media bios of any connection to the PGA Tour recently…

Brooks Koepka Sure To Be Suspended by PGA Tour

The commissioner of the PGA Tour, Jay Monahan, has a legitimate problem on his hands now with all these perceived defectors.  So much so, Monahan has scheduled a players-only meeting Tuesday, ahead of this week’s Traveler’s Championship.  The PGA Tour has already suspended some 20 players indefinitely for leaving in favor of LIV Golf. The player’s advisory council is also meeting Tuesday in response to the latest news.

As more players leave to take huge signing bonuses (Dustin Johnson received a reported $150,000,000 before hitting a single tee shot), many players and fans are reacting in wildly different ways. Perhaps the best reaction has been that of Jon Rahm at last week’s US Open media conferences…

No matter where you personally stand on the issue, things are going to keep changing through the summer.  Brooks Koepka isn’t the last one to join LIV at the expense of the PGA. He is merely the latest.
