Sergio Garcia has been rumored to be one of the players heading to the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Series, Greg Norman’s rival golf tour to the PGA Tour.
In Thursday’s opening round, the 42 year old Garcia, and 2017 winner of The Masters, dropped a pretty big hint he might be heading to the controversial LIV Tour, and the not-so-vague hint was picked up on microphone…

After yanking his tee shot at TPC Potomac Farms left into the penalty area, Garcia was informed by a rules official he took more than the allotted three minute time frame to locate his ball. The result on the PGA Tour is a one stroke penalty.
Sergio Garcia disagreed with the ruling stating the clock started early and he should be allowed more time.
Garcia declined to speak to the media afterwards, but the media heard all it needed to run with his mic’d response to the rules official, “A couple more weeks and I won’t have to deal with you anymore.” He was also heard muttering, “I can’t wait to leave this tour…can’t wait to get outta here.”

Sergio has never been the fastest player, and he has also been known to act a little childish when upset.
Avid golf fans will remember this tirade, ironically in Saudi Arabia, where he was disqualified from an event for an epic assault in bunkers and on the greens…

Who Else Might Be Leaving the PGA Tour for Saudi Arabia?
On April 25th, Bob Harig of SI.com reported 15 of the world’s top 100 ranked golfers have committed to play the LIV Tour’s International Series June 9-11 at the Centurion Golf Club in London. Notable names include:
- Lee Westwood
- Phil Mickelson
- Robert Garrigus
We’ll have to wait and see if Sergio Garcia does, in fact, leave. But, if his behavior today is any indication, the 2017 Masters Champion is as good as gone.
