DFS NHL is a volatile sport centering around correlation, stacking and game theory. Learning how to win cash games and tournaments requires nailing those great upside plays/stacks, grabbing obvious value, and making the proper fades that sink everyone else’s ships. Let’s look through today’s slate and identify those winning picks in “Snipes, Grinders, and Hard Passes!”
All of my plays make sense for the entire DFS industry; however, if there is an egregious discrepancy in player salary between sites, I will mention it in my briefing.
Snipe = Good Play
Grinder = Value Plays (Grinders are Valuable)
Hard-Pass = I’m fading in tournaments
DFS NHL Slate Overview:
Playoff time baby. Remember, certain teams are star driven and it will remain that way for some teams like the Leafs and Oilers; however, a lot of teams will rely on an entire team effort with random goals getting chipped in from role players. The playoffs are a greasier and tougher game with stingier defenses, with home ice mattering more than you’d think (These arenas get loud). If you are just gambling on hockey and not watching the games, I highly suggest flicking these game on when chilling out, they are wonderful.
Snipes and Hard Passes for Tonight
Correlated Snipe #1
Auston Matthews – Mitch Marner – TBD
The TBD will not be Michael Bunting for game 1 in all likelihood, but he should return in this series. I would expect either Nylander or Kerfoot to move up to the top line, with Ilya Mikhayev slotting in on Tavares’ line. William Nylander is a playoff animal and super cheap if he goes up to Matthews’ line, with Kerfoot not being as sexy. Matthews is a beast in general, and can score from anywhere; all while being a big strong athlete and holding his own physically. Mitch Marner has a lot to prove this post-season, as he was the star in Toronto that disappeared last year and took a lot of crap on social media. Marner is too talented to shy away this year, and the Leafs will need their big money studs to perform in order to advance.
Correlated Snipe #2
Anze Kopitar – Adrian Kempe – Dustin Brown
Here is where the matchup fun comes in. I am aware that home teams get the final change on whistled faceoffs, which matter more in this series than others; however, when the game is flowing, I fully expect the Phillip Danault line to shadow the Connor McDavid line. Anze Kopitar and company are way too experienced to get riled up in Edmonton, and they have way more experience than the Oilers. don’t get me wrong, I fully expect the Oilers to triumph in this series, but the Kopitar line is the line to roster (for the Kings) in DFS for the majority of this series. Edmonton does not have the best goaltending, and their blue-line is just ok at best; so, I expect goals to go in throughout the duration of this series.

Hard Pass
Blues
The Blues have like eight 20 goal scorers this regular season, so they are tough to predict; and, in Minnesota (who has a stout defense), with Marc-Andre Fleury, is a bit of a fade for me when Toronto and Edmonton are playing.

NHL Grinder Value Plays
Grinder #1
Ondrej Palat – That is playoff pain in the ass, and 2 time Stanley Cup champion Ondrej Palat to you. Oh yeah, and he typically plays top 6 minutes, and some special teams.
Grinder #2
Ryan O’Reilly – Too cheap for the former Conn Smythe winner. That is all.
Good luck, I hope you all come in 2nd. 😉
