NHL DFS Tournament Picks and Strategy | Snipes, Grinders, and Hard Passes Projections for Fanduel and Draftkings 4/26/22

DFS NHL is a volatile sport centering around correlation, stacking and game theory.  Learning how to win cash games and tournaments requires nailing those great upside plays/stacks, grabbing obvious value, and making the proper fades that sink everyone else’s ships.  Let’s look through today’s slate and identify those winning picks in “Snipes, Grinders, and Hard Passes!”

All of my plays make sense for the entire DFS industry; however, if there is an egregious discrepancy in player salary between sites, I will mention it in my briefing.

Snipe = Good Play
Grinder = Value Plays (Grinders are Valuable)
Hard-Pass = I’m fading in tournaments

DFS NBA

DFS NHL Slate Overview:

Big slate tonight, with lots of playoff strategies involved.  what I mean by this is that some teams are primed and cemented in their position and have an option to limit their star player’s ice times to avoid injury; and on the other hand, some teams are fighting for home ice, or their playoff lives in general. Toronto, Florida, Colorado, are some of the teams that are pretty much cemented for home ice, and are just waiting on their opponent; which is why the Leafs have been careful with Auston Matthews.

Snipes and Hard Passes for Tonight

Correlated Snipe #1

Ryan Hartman – Kirill Kaprizov – TBD

We are awaiting on Mats Zuccarello’s injury status, but whomever gets the top line assignment with Kaprizov and Hartman gets my vote against Arizona. The Coyotes are done and irrelevant, the Wild are in a dead tie with the Blues for 2nd/3rd in the Central; which means, they are competing for home ice, which is massive in hockey. Not to mention that the Wild may want Kaprizov to get at least nominated for the Hart trophy as well. Determined Wild, bad Coyotes; simple, I know, but simplicity can be very effective.

Correlated Snipe #2

Nikita Kucherov – Steven Stamkos – Victor Hedman

Palat typically plays with Kucherov and Stamkos, but I’m getting frisky with Hedman here. Tampa is fighting with Boston to either play the Hurricanes or the Leafs in the first round; so, pick your poison there. With that being said, I think the Lightning are feeling confident after smashing the Leafs, and want to play them again; not to mention, they are playing their best hockey of the year, and they still hate the Blue Jackets. Another side note is that the Lightning may go all out and prove a point and try to get Hedman as many points as possible to get him into Norris trophy consideration. They play an injured and super young Blue jackets team that will be scrappy; but, the expression don’t poke the bear applies here. Have you ever been attacked by a bear with lightning powers? same bro.

Hard Pass

Panthers/Bruins

So much star power, and typically a bunch of goals; but, at some point the Panthers have to take it easy and play their superstars a little less. Also, the Bruins have good goaltending. just a hunch that this game gets weird; maybe Huberdeau chases points to win the Art Ross or Hart trophy, but the Panthers should smarten up here and avoid the determined Bruins physicality.

NHL Grinder Value Plays

Grinder #1

Nick Blakenburg – Kid walked onto Michigan, became captain, and signed as an undrafted kid with the Blue Jackets. The kid is letting it all out on the ice, and the Jackets will want to continue to see what he can do as they evaluate him the rest of the season. Kid shoots and blocks that puck.

Grinder #2

Max Domi – Finding his form of late, super cheap, Hurricanes may want to dial their top line players back, and continue to see what Domi can do with them.

Good luck, I hope you all come in 2nd.  😉
