NHL DFS Tournament Picks and Strategy | Snipes, Grinders, and Hard Passes Projections for Fanduel and Draftkings 4/19/22

DFS NHL is a volatile sport centering around correlation, stacking and game theory.  Learning how to win cash games and tournaments requires nailing those great upside plays/stacks, grabbing obvious value, and making the proper fades that sink everyone else’s ships.  Let’s look through today’s slate and identify those winning picks in “Snipes, Grinders, and Hard Passes!”

All of my plays make sense for the entire DFS industry; however, if there is an egregious discrepancy in player salary between sites, I will mention it in my briefing.

Snipe = Good Play
Grinder = Value Plays (Grinders are Valuable)
Hard-Pass = I’m fading in tournaments

DFS NHL Slate Overview:

Incredibly massive slate tonight with tons of ways to go; Some high upside stacks I like that I will not be writing up officially are the Nashville Predators and their suave mustached man (Filip Forsberg); as well as, the Florida Panthers. If you aren’t playing my primary stack tonight, then you might as well take the opposing goalie, who is cheap and has high upside. The Panthers have not been shut out all year, so even though Ilya Sorokin is a good goalie, limit those exposures for obvious reasons

Snipes and Hard Passes for Tonight

Correlated Snipe #1

Tomas Hertl – Timo Meier – Jonathan Dahlen

Dahlen is now penciled in on the Sharks top line and top powerplay unit with their 2 best players Hertl/Meier; and although he isn’t a stud, he is serviceable and correlates well. Meier is over a point per game player this season, with over 3o goals, and loves to shoot the puck; and, Hertl is on pace for around 70 points this season, which is super respectable, as he is used in every situation. The Blue Jackets are an average team this year that is limping to the finish line with several injuries to a lot of their top players. The Jackets suck when out west, they are super young and banged up (with a few NCAA rookies recently joining them), and a tired goalie. The Sharks are in a prime spot to put up some points.

Correlated Snipe #2

Auston Matthews – Mitch Marner – Michael Bunting

With how precious forward slots are in DFS, I don’t deem Bunting as a must stack with Matthews and Marner; but, he is still a solid player that compliments them well, and can score at any time. The Leafs, as well as every team in the eastern playoff picture, are scrapping for points and trying to gain home ice advantage in the playoffs. If they want to accomplish that feat, then you must bulldoze the Flyers 9who have given up) at home. The Flyers have completely given up, and are letting opposing forwards in alone on their crappy goalies; ask Connor Sheary, he made 6 moves right in front of the Flyers’ goalie, with all 5 Flyers at least 20 feet away from him. The Flyers are already golfing, the Leafs have the best top line in hockey, Matthews gets a hat-trick in this one.

Hard Pass

Blues/Bruins

Playoff atmosphere type game. These 2 teams are super deep, and by the year’s end, the Blues could have nine 20 goal scorers, which is not concentrated enough to attack in DFS with 10 games on the slate.

NHL Grinder Value Plays

Grinder #1

Nick Paul – Slated on the Lightning’s top line with Kucherov and Point; at home against the Red Wings.

Grinder #2

Gus Nyquist – True pro. An every situation player for the Blue Jackets; has 6 points in his late 4 games, all assists.

Grinder #3

Jamie Drysdale – Super cheap D option. Plays on the powerplay; Ducks want to play spoiler.

Good luck, I hope you all come in 2nd.  😉
