NHL DFS Tournament Picks and Strategy | Snipes, Grinders, and Hard Passes Projections for Fanduel and Draftkings 1/19/22

DFS NHL is a volatile sport centering around correlation, stacking and game theory.  Learning how to win cash games and tournaments requires nailing those great upside plays/stacks, grabbing obvious value, and making the proper fades that sink everyone else’s ships.  Let’s look through today’s slate and identify those winning picks in “Snipes, Grinders, and Hard Passes!”

All of my plays make sense for the entire DFS industry; however, if there is an egregious discrepancy in player salary between sites, I will mention it in my briefing.

Snipe = Good Play
Grinder = Value Plays (Grinders are Valuable)
Hard-Pass = I’m fading in tournaments

DFS NHL Slate Overview:

We have 3 games on this cold as hell Wednesday night, and I am going to tell you how to lose; I mean, win, some money. Some big names play tonight with the Avalanche and the Leafs on the slate, and I will undoubtedly have to pick one of those stacks in this write up, or I would be a scaredy cat. Also, obvious the Devils goalie will be the chalky cash game play, as they are at home vs the Coyotes.

Correlated Snipe #1

Yegor Sharangovich – Jack Hughes – Tomas Tatar

Obviously I am going to be stacking the Devils in this spot, and when I am doing that, I am 90% the time doing that with Jack Hughes’ line. Goals should be flowing for the Devils, but then again, this is DFS hockey; the Coyotes’ farts may not stink tomorrow. The chalkier lineup construction will be Devils/Avalanche or Devils/Leafs at my first glance, so we will need to be sneakier in different ways in tournaments.

Correlated Snipe #2

Nathan Mackinnon – Mikko Rantanen- Gabriel Landeskog

Boring, I know. But if choosing between the high priced teams, I’m betting on the Avalanche. They just like to shoot more, and are facing slightly less consistent goaltending in Anaheim. I also love the late night hammer aspect of it where you can go to sleep out of the money and wake up to even potentially a tournament win (the feeling is great, trust me). Maybe if your lineup permits, you can throw Matthews and Mackinnon in the same lineup and figure out the rest; but, in terms of pure upside, the top Avalanche line is where the most raw fantasy production is going to come from.

Hard Pass #1

The Coyotes

Maybe get an arena before you travel across the country to play an NHL game. The funny thing is, is that I don’t hate them with only 3 games; however, I suggest having the least exposure to these boys.

NHL Grinder Value Plays

Grinder#1

PK Subban- Daily Faceoff has Subban as the top powerplay unit catalyst for the Devils with Dougie Hamilton out. Check this out before lineup locks.

Grinder#2

Filip Chytil – A good young hockey player that has been skating with Artemi Panarin; which has its perks.

Grinder #3

Alex Kerfoot – Toronto’s second line with Tavares and Nylander is a nice spot to be. Also he plays some special teams; decent player.

Good luck, I hope you all come in 2nd.  😉
