Texas Motor Speedway

Texas is a 1.5-mile high-speed intermediate track. The track has become incredibly hard to drive but more importantly incredibly hard to pass on. Track position is everything. We saw this last year with Austin Dillon taking two tires and leading the last 25 or so laps with about a 15th place car. The lack of downforce in the Xifinty Series makes this track one of the most difficult to drive. These races have probably the highest variance level of any intermediate track due to no tire wear and pit strategy plus the abnormally high caution and DNF counts. It also doesn’t help that NASCAR let Harvick pound the wall here last year in the rain. Things like that skew some of the numbers of course. But on the flip side, Brandon Jones has a win here…..

Cup Series Race

Race Preview

Big lap count at a track where it is borderline impossible to pass the leader. You will want to make sure you hit the dominators just right. How you do that is an interesting question for sure. If you are looking for an example of how hard it is to pass here just do back and watch the all star race from June. Larson was the fastest car. He dominated when he was out front. However, there was a stage where he restarted about 16th and he wasn’t able to crack the top 10. It doesn’t matter how fast your car is if you can’t complete a pass. This race will be all about track position. I am looking to hit on 2 or 3 dominators this race and just fill in the rest of the lineup with anyone who can stay on the lead lap and score a decent finish. Being on the lead lap with some late cautions can set up teams to use strategy to score finishes they typically wouldn’t.

NASCAR Xfinity Series DFS Outlook

I am looking for two dominators and to avoid the chaos. This is probably the biggest variance race we see outside of Daytona and Talladega. Lots of cautions and pit strategy that can change things up. Turns 1 & 2 are tricky on restarts and it has led to tons of issues since the repave. Because of this we have a lot of drivers starting deep in the field with a little bit better upsides. If someone like Bayley Currey can drive to 25th but then add 5 or so spots through leaders crashing then they will contend for the optimal. Same goes for someone like Joe Graf. This should be a JGR race but Allgaier, Gragson, Cindric, and Allmendinger should be in contention for the win as well. The most noteworthy entrant this week is John Hunter Nemechek will be driving the #54 car this week. Same team that won here in June with Kyle Busch driving. He is my favorite for the win.
