My Take on a Consistent MLB DFS Process – Looking at Pitchers
I always start an MLB slate by looking at pitching, not only do you get a grasp on who the pitchers are that you want to target, but gives you a holistic look at the slate as well. Breaking down pitching also gives you an idea of what offenses are in good spots against bad/vulnerable pitchers. I start my research by going straight to the MLB Carnage Report this is where we can analyze all the pitchers on the slate in a compact, yet detailed manner. Below are the three pitchers that jumped out to me at first glance, good or bad.
- Anthony DeSclafani
- Tylor Megill
- Robbie Ray

Philadelphia Phillies (-121) @ Washington Nationals
Pitchers:
Phillies – Ranger Suarez
Nationals – Josiah Gray
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 9. The Phillies are lengthening Suarez out to be a starter at the MLB level so we should see him go 3-4 innings. At his DK price point, I could be intrigued by a 4 inning performance. Gray is one of the top SP prospects in baseball but he hasn’t had success at the MLB level yet. The Nationals should let him sit in the rotation for the rest of the season to get him ready for next year.
PHI 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Bryce Harper, Rhys Hoskins
GPP Note: Team ISO of .156 against RHPs this season.
WSH 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Ryan Zimmerman, Juan Soto
GPP Note: Team ISO of .181 against LHPs this season.
Watching the weather is half the battle when it comes to MLB DFS. The DFS Army Weather Station has you covered, from games that have delay and postponement potential to games that could have significant winds that will play a role in selecting a team to stack or a pitcher to use.
Cleveland Indians @ Toronto Blue Jays (-280)
Pitchers:
Indians – Eli Morgan
Blue Jays – Robbie Ray
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 9.5. This is an island, day game so we get some showdown action. Ray has been strong and he takes on an average offense who traded away their leadoff hitter. The Blue Jays are always a stack as there is so much upside throughout the lineup. Morgan just hasn’t been able to get outs consistently at the MLB level.
CLE 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Amed Rosario, Franmil Reyes
GPP Note: Team ISO of .174 against LHPs this season.
TOR 5-star plays: Vlad Guerrero, Bo Bichette
4-star plays: Marcus Semien, George Springer
GPP Note: Team ISO of .197 against RHPs this season.
Los Angeles Angels @ Texas Rangers
Pitchers:
Angels – Undecided
Rangers – Dane Dunning
Rundown:
Waiting on the Vegas information.
LAA 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Shohei Ohtani, David Fletcher
GPP Note: Team ISO of .175 against RHPs this season.
TEX 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Adolis Garcia
GPP Note: Team ISO of .177 over the last week.
Baltimore Orioles @ New York Yankees (-240)
Pitchers:
Orioles – Jorge Lopez
Yankees – Andrew Heaney
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 10. Heaney is making his Yankees debut tonight and should be in line to pick up the win. The Yankees bats are in an excellent spot and Rizzo has really stepped up since being acquired. If the Yankees can get Urshela and LeMahieu back in the lineup, we could see a normal lineup for the first time with the acquisitions of Rizzo and Gallo.
BAL 5-star plays: Cedric Mullins
4-star plays: Trey Mancini
GPP Note: Team ISO of .164 against LHPs this season.
NYY 5-star plays: Aaron Judge
4-star plays: Anthony Rizzo, DJ LeMahieu
GPP Note: Team ISO of .149 against RHPs this season.

Pittsburgh Pirates @ Milwaukee Brewers (-203)
Pitchers:
Pirates – Bryse Wilson
Brewers – Eric Lauer
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 9. I am a fan of Bryse Wilson and hope that the change of scenery will allow him to reach his potential. It’s a tough spot for him as the Pirates offense isn’t going to score a ton of runs the rest of the season and somehow this Milwaukee lineup is scoring runs. Lauer could be a fine play but he doesn’t really excite me right now.
PIT 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Bryan Reynolds, Michael Chavis
GPP Note: Team ISO of .123 against LHPs this season.
MIL 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Rowdy Tellez, Lorenzo Cain
GPP Note: Team ISO of .161 against RHPs this season.
Seattle Mariners @ Tampa Bay Rays (-157)
Pitchers:
Mariners – Chris Flexen
Rays – Michael Wacha
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 8.5. Flexen has surprised me in his return to the majors but I am still going to be on the Rays offense as I love the way a few guys are swinging it plus the acquisition of Cruz makes the whole lineup far more dangerous overall. Wacha is capable of throwing 5 strong innings but this Mariners lineup is overachieving and a few guys have swung it well over the last week or two.
SEA 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Ty France, Kyle Seager
GPP Note: Team ISO of .157 against RHPs this season.
TB 5-star plays: Nelson Cruz
4-star plays: Austin Meadows, Brandon Lowe
GPP Note: Team ISO of .187 against RHPs this season.
New York Mets (-175) @ Miami Marlins
Pitchers:
Mets – Tylor Megill
Marlins – Undecided
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 8.5. I am seeing a rumor that Luzardo will make his Miami debut. He’s an ultra-talented pitcher who has struggled a TON this season. Being LH could help him in this match-up. Megill continues to surprise me with his performances and he’s now the highest-priced SP on the DK main slate. He is in a great spot as the Miami offense is struggling.
NYM 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Pete Alonso, Jeff McNeil
GPP Note: Team ISO of .129 over the last week.
MIA 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Brian Anderson
GPP Note: Team ISO of .139 against RHPs this season.

San Francisco Giants (-170) @ Arizona Diamondbacks
Pitchers:
Giants – Anthony DeSclafani
D’Backs – Taylor Widener
Rundown:
This game has opened with a total of 9. DeSclafani has allowed just 3 earned runs in 13.2 innings against ARI this season. He’s also thrown 79.1 road innings and allowed just 22 runs this season. The Giants offense has hit a bunch of HRs over the last couple of days (7 of them actually). I am going to try and ride the HR wave and at this point, I am hoping for 4 of them from the offense. The problem with that is trying to predict who is going to hit them.
SF 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Lamonte Wade, Brandon Crawford
GPP Note: Team ISO of .202 against RHPs this season.
ARI 5-star plays: NONE
4-star plays: Kole Calhoun, David Peralta
GPP Note: Team ISO of .134 against RHPs this season.
Stacks of the Day: Main Slate
- New York Yankees
- San Francisco Giants
- Tampa Bay Rays
MLB Dinger of the Day – Aaron Judge, Yankees
