My Take on a Consistent MLB DFS Process – Looking at Pitchers

I always start an MLB slate by looking at pitching, not only do you get a grasp on who the pitchers are that you want to target, but gives you a holistic look at the slate as well. Breaking down pitching also gives you an idea of what offenses are in good spots against bad/vulnerable pitchers. I start my research by going straight to the  MLB Carnage Report this is where we can analyze all the pitchers on the slate in a compact, yet detailed manner. Below are the three pitchers that jumped out to me at first glance, good or bad.

  • Lance Lynn
  • Logan Gilbert
  • Jameson Taillon

We have a BRAND NEW update to our MLB Domination Station lineup optimizer with advanced user-controlled scoring systems inside.  You control how the lineups are built from three main uses of our projections: Points-based, DFSA Grades, or the unique blend of Hybrid Scoring!  The Domination Station will help you create 150 of the highest projected lineups in a matter of minutes. Cincinnati Reds @ New York Mets (-121)

Pitchers:

Reds – Sonny Gray

Mets – Carlos Carrasco

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8.5. Carrasco is expected to make his return and that’s a huge lift for the Mets. It’s like a trade deadline acquisition for them at this point. Gray has the ability to be dominant but his consistency has disappeared some this season. Both teams have a couple of guys who are swinging it extremely well right now. I am not sure what to expect out of Carrasco just yet but Votto has dominated the baseball all week long.

CIN 5-star plays: Joey Votto

4-star plays: Jesse Winker

GPP Note: Team ISO of .176 against RHPs this season.

NYM 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Pete Alonso, Jeff McNeil

GPP Note: Team ISO of .151 against RHPs this season.

Chicago Cubs @ Washington Nationals

Pitchers:

Cubs – Trevor Williams

Nationals – Undecided

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information.

CHC 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Kris Bryant

GPP Note: Team ISO of .216 over the last week.

WSH 5-star plays: Juan Soto

4-star plays: Josh Bell, Josh Harrison

DFS MLB Weather Picks

Kansas City Royals @ Toronto Blue Jays (-195)

Pitchers:

Royals – Daniel Lynch

Blue Jays – Ross Stripling

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 10.5. Lynch has a bright future but this is a dangerous spot for a young pitcher. The Blue Jays are loaded with power up and down the lineup. The Royals are a sneaky offense and they have swung it decently of late so Stripling isn’t in a great spot. High total so I obviously love the Blue Jays and I think the Royals have strong mini-stacks built around Perez.

KC 5-star plays: Salvador Perez

4-star plays: Carlos Santana

GPP Note: Team ISO of .143 against RHPs this season.

TOR 5-star plays: Vlad Guerrero, Bo Bichette

4-star plays: Marcus Semien, George Springer

GPP Note: Team ISO of .180 against LHPs this season.

Oakland Athletics (-121) @ Los Angeles Angels

Pitchers:

Athletics – Chris Bassitt

Angels – Patrick Sandoval

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8.5. The Angels lineup looks really weak overall so Bassitt should garner plenty of interest. Sandoval is coming off of a career game against the Twins so he could continue that or he could have a slight letdown after the near no-hitter. The A’s bats might be picking up a bit and the acquisition of Marte should help this offense quite a bit, especially against LHPs.

OAK 5-star plays: Mark Canha

4-star plays: Matt Olson, Starling Marte

GPP Note: Team ISO of .172 against LHPs this season.

LAA 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Shohei Ohtani, David Fletcher

GPP Note: Team ISO of .175 against RHPs this season.

Baltimore Orioles @ Detroit Tigers (-145)

Pitchers:

Orioles – Matt Harvey

Tigers – Tarik Skubal

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9.5. I really don’t know what to do with this game. It seems like every time I stack against Harvey, he suddenly does just enough to upset me. When I ride Skubal he ends up giving up 4 or 5 runs. The truth is that both offenses can do enough or both SPs can do just enough, though I don’t think I will ever suggest rostering Harvey at this point. I prefer mini-stacks of these offenses.

BAL 5-star plays: Cedric Mullins

4-star plays: Trey Mancini

GPP Note: Team ISO of .164 against LHPs this season.

DET 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Miguel Cabrera, Jonathan Schoop

GPP Note: Team ISO of .164 against RHPs this season.

Seattle Mariners @ Texas Rangers

Pitchers:

Mariners – Logan Gilbert

Rangers – Kolby Allard

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information.

SEA 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Mitch Haniger, Kyle Seager

GPP Note: Team ISO of .169 against LHPS this season.

TEX 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: NONE

GPP Note: Team ISO of .152 against RHPs this season.

Milwaukee Brewers @ Atlanta Braves

Pitchers:

Brewers – Corbin Burnes

Braves – Touki Toussaint

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information.

MIL 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Rowdy Tellez

GPP Note: Team ISO of .156 against RHPs this season.

ATL 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Dansby Swanson, Freddie Freeman

GPP Note: Team ISO of .186 against RHPs this season.

Philadelphia Phillies (-130) @ Pittsburgh Pirates

Pitchers:

Phillies – Aaron Nola

Pirates – Wil Crowe

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9. Nola on the road always scares me but this is one of those spots that could buck the splits trend. The Pirates offense is extremely weak overall and I just don’t see them suddenly waking up to score a bunch of runs. We know that the Phillies are a dangerous offense that just hasn’t put it together very consistently this season.

PHI 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Andrew McCutchen, Bryce Harper

GPP Note: Team ISO of .160 against RHPs this season.

PIT 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Bryan Reynolds

GPP Note: Team ISO of .134 against RHPs this season.

Boston Red Sox @ Tampa Bay Rays

Pitchers:

Red Sox – Martin Perez

Rays – Josh Fleming

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information.

BOS 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Xander Bogaerts, Rafael Devers

GPP Note: Team ISO of .176 against LHPs this season.

TB 5-star plays: Nelson Cruz

4-star plays: Mike Zunino

GPP Note: Team ISO of .148 against LHPs this season.

New York Yankees (-145) @ Miami Marlins

Pitchers:

Yankees – Jameson Taillon

Marlins – Zach Thompson

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8. I really feel like this one is a sneaky SP match-up. Now a lot is going to depend on what the Yankees lineup looks like. Gallo and Rizzo could make their debuts right away and if that happens, this Yankees lineup becomes a WHOLE lot deeper overall. Taillon is in a plus spot, especially if Miami ends up dealing guys like Aguilar and Duvall.

NYY 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays:  Aaron Judge, Gleyber Torres

GPP Note: Team ISO of .151 against RHPS this season.

MIA 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Jesus Aguilar

GPP Note: Team ISO of .141 against RHPs this season.

Cleveland Indians @ Chicago White Sox (-203)

Pitchers:

Indians – JC Mejia

White Sox – Lance Lynn

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8.5. Lynn is in a great spot in my opinion and he’s going to be one of my favorite SPs on this slate. The Indians dealt their leadoff hitter to the White Sox and they are struggling a bit overall. The White Sox might not be done making moves so we know they are wanting to match some of the big moves others have made. I think the White Sox should be fairly popular tonight.

CLE 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Jose Ramirez

GPP Note: Team ISO of .168 against RHPS this season.

CWS 5-star plays: Tim Anderson

4-star plays: Jose Abreu, Eloy Jimenez

GPP Note: Team ISO of .169 against RHPs this season.

Los Angeles Dodgers (-180) @ Arizona Diamondbacks

Pitchers:

Dodgers – Tony Gonsolin

D’Backs – Zac Gallen

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9. The Dodgers roster hasn’t had great success or basically any success against Gallen in their careers. The issue I have with that is that Gallen isn’t the same guy this season as he’s dealt with multiple injuries. I think the Dodgers are in a strong spot overall and I want to be overweight on the field. Arizona lacks real danger in their lineup so I could see Gonsolin carrying some ownership in what might be his last start of the season with the Dodgers acquiring Scherzer.

LAD 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: AJ Pollock, Max Muncy

GPP Note: Team ISO of .177 against RHPS this season.

ARI 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Daulton Varsho, Pavin Smith

GPP Note: Team ISO of .134 against RHPs this season.

Houston Astros @ San Francisco Giants (-115)

Pitchers:

Astros – Framber Valdez

Giants – Kevin Gausman

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 7.5. We get a great SP match-up but both offenses can do just enough as well. I don’t see a reason to fully stack either side as the pitchers are just that solid but I can see one-offs paying off handsomely in this game. Tucker and Austin Slater are two guys who are swinging it extremely well right now.

HOU 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Kyle Tucker, Yuli Gurriel

GPP Note: Team ISO of .181 against RHPs this season.

SF 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Austin Slater

GPP Note: Team ISO of .168 against LHPs this season.

Colorado Rockies @ San Diego Padres (-180)

Pitchers:

Rockies – Jon Gray

Padres – Ryan Weathers

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8. Gray has given up 12 runs in 17.1 innings against SD but only 6 of those were earned. He’s always capable of doing just enough to slow down an offense. The issue is that the Padres have a few guys that have hit him really well in their careers. Weathers has been decent and he’s cheap enough on DK that he doesn’t need to do much more than throw 5 innings of solid baseball.

COL 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: CJ Cron, Elias Diaz

GPP Note: Team ISO of .169 against LHPs this season.

SD 5-star plays: Jake Cronenworth, Wil Myers

4-star plays: Fernando Tatis Jr, Manny Machado

GPP Note: Team ISO of .171 against RHPs this season.

Minnesota Twins (-121) @ St Louis Cardinals

Pitchers:

Twins – Jose Berrios

Cardinals – Wade LeBlanc

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8.5. We have to pay attention here as Berrios has been rumored to be on the trade block so we could see him scratched leading up to this game tonight. If he doesn’t get moved, I like the spot for him as the Cardinals aren’t swinging it very well as a team. The Twins have plenty of power against LHPs, even without Cruz.

MIN 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Josh Donaldson, Miguel Sano

GPP Note: Team ISO of .187 against LHPS this season.

STL 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Harrison Bader, Nolan Arenado

GPP Note: Team ISO of .154 against RHPs this season.

Stacks of the Day: Main Slate

  1. Toronto Blue Jays
  2. Los Angeles Dodgers
  3. Philadelphia Phillies

MLB Dinger of the Day – Nelson Cruz, TB
