WNBA Strategy Picks for Today

Credit: Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

Washington Mystics @ Connecticut Sun

We begin in the frontcourt for the Mystics. Tina Charles and Myisha Hines-Allen will dominate the minutes here and are each in play tonight. The matchup is not the best against the Sun, but Charles and MHA both need to get going here for their team to win. MHA should get the slightly tougher matchup of the two. In case one of them gets in foul trouble Erica McCall will get minutes. On the guard front, the pick is Ariel Atkins who has been playing extremely well of late. You can go to Natasha Cloud in GPPs as well.

Jonquel Jones went off last game and she’ll be needed here again tonight. Along with Brionna Jones, JJ will play a ton of minutes matching up well with the size that the Mystics have. It’s a great spot for them. DeWanna Bonner has been in a little funk and this might not be the matchup she gets out of it as Atkins is a great defender. Jasmine Thomas also finds herself in a tough spot here. With Briann January returning, it is hard to like Natisha Hiedeman here as well.

5-Star Play: Jonquel Jones, Tina Charles

4-Star Play: Brionna Jones, Myisha Hines-Allen, Ariel Atkins, DeWanna Bonner

GPP Sleeper: Erica McCall

Deep Value: Natasha Cloud

Los Angeles Sparks @ Chicago Sky

The Sparks have played two games so far and they’ve been blown out in both. If they aren’t careful tonight will be the third. They’ll need to show some fight in this one. Nneka and Chiney Ogwumike will have their work cut out for them here. Amanda Zahui B will play tonight for the first time this season, we will need to see what her minutes situation will look like. On the guard front, Kristi Tolliver, Brittney Sykes, and Erica Wheeler need to get going for this team.

The Sky lost last time out, but the team has the firepower to crush here tonight, starting with Courtney Vandersloot. She’s been inconsistent so far this season, but she has tremendous upside in this matchup. Diamond DeShields has found her form as she gets more aggressive and makes for an excellent option tonight. In the frontcourt, the trio of Ruthy Hebard, Astou Ndour-Fall, and Azura Stevens will split the minutes there. Stevens is demanding more minutes as she gets going this season and that will affect the minutes of the other two. That said, with Candace Parker still out, they are all playable.

5-Star Play: Courtney Vandersloot, Nneka Ogwumike

4-Star Play: Diamond DeShields, Astou Ndour-Fall, Chiney Ogwumike, Ruthy Hebard

GPP Sleeper: Amanda Zahui B

Deep Value: Azura Stevens

NASCAR Draftkings Fanduel

Minnesota Lynx @ Seattle Storm

The Lynx have been poor to start the season, opening with three straight losses. The good news is they get Napheesa Collier back tonight. The bad news, they face the Storm and are without Aerial Powers. Sylvia Fowles and Collier will have to carry this team in the matchup tonight. They have the skillset to dominate here. Crystal Dangerfield and Kayla McBride will also be needed here, especially on the defensive front as the Storm guards can be a handful. It’s not going to be an easy game, but it is a winnable one for them if they lock-in. A win they desperately need.

Breanna Stewart has been phenomenal to start the season and she’ll be needed here tonight if the Storm are to win this game. The matchup is not the best, but that usually doesn’t stop Stewie, she’s just that good. Apart from Stewie, the only other players you can be really comfortable with on this team are Jewell Loyd and Sue Bird. Loyd has been on a tear to start the season and her shooting capabilities could really trouble the Lynx tonight. Bird just loves playing against the Lynx and is getting good minutes to start the season. For the rest of the Lynx, their minutes are just too inconsistent to make them solid options.

5-Star Play: Breanna Stewart, Sylvia Fowles, Naphessa Collier

4-Star Play: Jewell Loyd, Crystal Dangerfield, Sue Bird, Kayla McBride

GPP Sleeper: Damiris Dantas

Deep Value: Mercedes Russell

Indiana Fever @ Las Vega Aces

Jessica Breland has established herself as one of the top two players on this Fever team. She’ll be needed out there tonight in what will be a tough game against the Aces. Teaira McCowan gets a tough matchup, but one she is well suited for. Playing against Cambage is not easy, but at the very least McCowan will not be beaten for pace here and can get more minutes tonight. Kelsey Mitchell hit a slump lately but will need to get out of it tonight if her team has any shot at winning this one. Danielle Robinson rounds out the key options on this team as she carries great upside in this matchup. Don’t look now but Victoria Vivians has started finding her game. She could be sneaky.

Liz Cambage got 32 minutes last time out but had her worst shooting performance of the season. If she gets anywhere close to 30 minutes tonight, she will crush. The latest is she is still on a minute limit but it can be relaxed somewhat as we saw last game. A’ja Wilson remains the top option for the Aces and the matchup is a solid one for her. Dearica Hamby will provide backup for both Wilson and Cambage and can crush in 20-25 minutes in this matchup. On the guard front, the Aces are shorthanded. As a result, Chelsea Gray and Jackie Young will play well over 30 minutes and make for solid options on the slate. Destiny Slocum could be a value option off the bench.

5-Star Play: Liz Cambage, A’ja Wilson, Jessica Breland, Chelsea Gray

4-Star Play: Teaira McCowan, Kelsey Mitchell, Jackie Young

GPP Sleeper: Jackie Young

Deep Value: Destiny Slocum
