WNBA Strategy Picks for Today

WNBA Strategy Picks Today

Indiana Fever @ New York Liberty

Indiana Fever

Probable Starters: Kelsey Mitchell, Danielle Robinson, Victoria Vivians, Jantel Lavender, and Teaira McCowan

The Fever have a solid roster to start out the season, one which isn’t too hamstrung with injuries or players out on international duties. They’ll look to take this season by storm, and they get the perfect opportunity here to start the season with a win. Victoria Vivians is back after missing last season and she is just too cheap across both sites here tonight. Teaira McCowan will dominate against a very weak Liberty frontcourt tonight. The Liberty just do not have anyone playing who can stop her here. Both Mitchells are always a scoring threat when they step on a WNBA court and are in play as well.

New York Liberty

Probable Starters: Sabrina Ionescu, Betnijah Laney, Jazmine Jones, Michaela Onyenwere, Kylee Shook

As of this writing, the Liberty are projected to have just 8-players suited up for tonight. In addition to the five above, you have Clarendon, Whitcomb, and Richards (Holmes was released by the team on Wednesday and Marine Fauthoux won’t join the team this year).

It is easy to see a potential blowout happening with the Liberty this shorthanded, but given it is the first game of the season this game could be competitive. Sabrina Ionescu had her rookie season cut short by injury, but she was off to a strong start and will get tremendous usage here. Betnijah Laney had a tremendous season last year and will look to be the defensive stalwart for the Liberty while providing a spark on offense. Jazmine Jones will continue to build on her rookie season and rookie Onyenwere will play a ton of minutes here tonight – what a welcome to the WNBA. Off the bench, the likes of Clarendon and Whitcomb will get minutes tonight as well.

5-Star Plays: Teaira McCowan, Victoria Vivians, Sabrina Ionescu, Betnijah Laney

4-Star Plays: Kelsey Mitchell, Michaela Onyenwere

Deeper Value: Jazmine Jones

GPP Sleeper: Tiffany Mitchell

Connecticut Sun @ Atlanta Dream

Connecticut Sun

Probable Starters: Briann January, Kalia Charles, DeWanna Bonner, Brionna Jones and Jonquel Jones

The Sun are shorthanded here tonight, with just 9 players active. Alyssa Thomas is out for the entire season with an injury, and Jasmine Thomas is not yet ready to join the team due to health protocols. Stephanie Jones is on the roster and is in the FD player pool but not the DK player pool.

Without the Thomas’ here tonight, DeWanna Bonner and Jonquel Jones will be called upon to carry this team tonight. Both players make for fantastic options in a good matchup. Brionna Jones was phenomenal last season and will look to build on that here. While Briann January is with the team, she just recently joined and hasn’t had time to fully practice with the team. As a result, her WNBA minutes might be limited tonight. This opens more opportunities for Charles and Hiedeman.

Atlanta Dream

Probable Starters: Odyssey Sims, Courtney Williams, Chennedy Carter, Tianna Hawkins, and Elizabeth Williams

Tianna Hawkins and Crystal Bradford are both on the roster and in the FD player pool, but not in the DK player pool. Tiffany Hayes and Cheyenne parker are OUT for this game due to health protocols.

The probable starting lineup for the Dream is solid, with Sims, Courtney and Carter making for a very strong guard rotation. All three of them are capable of taking over a game offensively. Carter is coming off a great rookie season, while Courtney remains a fantastic shooter. On the backcourt side, Elizabeth Williams is getting older and if this is anything like last season could see her minutes in the 25-range. Hawkins was great with the Mystics last season and will look to continue that here for the Dream.

5-Star Plays: DeWanna Bonner, Jonquel Jones

4-Star Plays: Chennedy Carter, Brionna Jones, Courtney Williams

Deeper Value: Odyssey Sims

GPP Sleeper: Tianna Hawkins

Phoenix Mercury @ Minnesota Lynx

Phoenix Mercury

Probable Starters: Skylar Diggins-Smith, Diana Taurasi, Kia Nurse, Brianna Turner, and Brittney Griner

Bria Hartley and Kia Vaughn are OUT for the Mercury here. Cierra Burdick was signed by the Mercury and is on the roster and the FD player pool but not the DK player pool.

The Mercury have a solid starting lineup here, one of the best in the league. It all starts in the frontcourt with Brittney Griner. After going through long spells of injury last season, Griner is back and ready to dominate once again. She gets that epic matchup we have all enjoyed with Fowles here again. This matchup usually goes one of two ways: either they take out each other defensively or occasionally they’ll both dominate. Taurasi showed last season that age isn’t slowing her down. She really is a timeless player, performing at the highest levels last season, she’ll look to continue that here. Diggins-Smith, Nurse, and Turner will look to provide defensive fortitude here.

Minnesota Lynx

Probable Starters: Kayla McBride, Crystal Dangerfield, Aerial Powers, Damiris Dantas, and Sylvia Fowles

Napheesa Collier and Reinna Davis are both OUT here tonight.

Without Collier, the Lynx will rely heavily on Sylvia Fowles who has the opportunity create opportunities for her WNBA teammates here with her dominant presence, even in a tough matchup with Griner. Aerial Powers will step into the role Collier normally occupies, and if her performance last season was anything to go by, she has the opportunity to dominate here tonight. Dangerfield, McBride, and Dantas can always go off offensively due to their ability to knock down the outside shot. This Lynx team is deep, and you will have to pick and choose carefully here tonight.

5-Star Plays: Aerial Powers, Diana Taurasi

4-Star Plays: Britney Griner, Sylvia Fowles, Kayla McBride

Deeper Value: Damiris Dantas

GPP Sleeper: Rachel Banham

Dallas Wings @ Los Angeles Sparks

Dallas Wings

Probable Starters: Moriah Jefferson, Arike Ogunbowale, Allisha Gray, Kayla Thornton, and Charli Collier

Satou Sabally and Awak Kuier are both OUT here for the Wings due to international commitments. Walker, Givens, and Gustafson are in the FD player pool but are no longer with the team, so take note.

The starters for the Wings will carry a heavy load for the team until Sabally gets back and can help relieve some of the burden. Arike Ogunbowale, Allisha Gray, and Charli Collier are the key players we want to look at here. Ogunbowale and Gray formed a nice partnership for the Wings last year and will look to continue that here this season. Both are strong offensive players with solid defensive instincts. Charli Collier might be a rookie, but as she showed during the preseason game, she has what it takes to compete at this level. Other options to look at here will be Dungee and Harrison off the bench, as they have shown upside.

Los Angeles Sparks

Probable Starters: Kristi Toliver, Erica Wheeler, Britney Sykes, Chiney Ogwumike, and Nneka Ogwumike

Amanda Zahui B is out with a back injury, while Maria Vadeeva will most likely not join the team until the second half of the season. Seimone Augustus and Kristine Anigwe are no longer with the team but are still in the FD player pool, while Bria Holmes is with the team but is not in the DK player pool.

For the Sparks, it begins with Nneka Ogwumike. This is her team now that Candace Parker has left, and she gets the opportunity to put her stamp on it fully. Nneka gets a nice matchup tonight to make her mark. The Sparks could afford to let Parker go because they also have Chiney Ogwumike in the building. Chiney has a chance to find her peak-form here without Parker limiting her minutes. In the backcourt, the trio of Toliver, Sykes, and Wheeler brings a strong offense and fine defensive quality, rounding out the team. Toliver and Wheeler make for interesting options on this WNBA slate tonight.

5-Star Plays: Arike Ogunbowale, Nneka Ogwumike

4-Star Plays: Charli Collier, Allisha Gray, Kristi Toliver, Chiney Ogwumike

Deeper Value: Moriah Jefferson

GPP Sleeper: Erica Wheeler
