MLB DFS Main Slate Advice | Picks, Stacks, Strategy Projections Today May 16th | Fanduel Draftkings

Full Slate Breakdown for MLB DFS 5/16:

Get your MLB DFS research started with DFS Army’s Full Count! Pitching advice, stack strategy, home run calls, and everything you need.

Happy MLB Season and welcome to another year of the DFS Army MLB Full Count! You have to start your research somewhere, and oftentimes going game by game and breaking down every matchup and its key players is the first step in our process. My name is Eric, @Razzle11Grinds on Twitter, make sure to give me a follow as I’ll occasionally make updates to the advice in the article out on Twitter as well as inside our coaching forums.  With that said, let’s get it started!

My Take on a Consistent MLB DFS Process – Looking at Pitchers

I always start an MLB slate by looking at pitching, not only do you get a grasp on who the pitchers are that you want to target, but gives you a holistic look at the slate as well. Breaking down pitching also gives you an idea of what offenses are in good spots against bad/vulnerable pitchers. I start my research by going straight to the  MLB Carnage Report this is where we can analyze all the pitchers on the slate in a compact, yet detailed manner. Below are the three pitchers that jumped out to me at first glance, good or bad.

  • Alex Wood
  • Huascar Ynoa
  • Luis Patino

Kansas City Royals @ Chicago White Sox (-153)

Pitchers:

Royals – Brady Singer

White Sox – Dylan Cease

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8.5. I like both these SPs so I have a hard time wanting to play the offenses. Both sides have a couple of guys hitting it well right now plus some decent BvP history. The White Sox could be without Abreu here after his collision so that would limit the White Sox lineup some but we can just plug in Mercedes.

KC 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Whit Merrifield, Salvador Perez

GPP Note: Team ISO of .156 against RHPs this season.

CWS 5-star plays: Tim Anderson

4-star plays: Yermin Mercedes, Nick Madrigal

GPP Note: Team has an ISO of .209 over the last week.

Philadelphia Phillies @ Toronto Blue Jays (-153)

Pitchers:

Phillies – Chase Anderson

Blue Jayes – Robbie Ray

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 10.5. I expect to see some offense here, even though Ray has picked it up a bit of late. Anderson has been a reverse splits guy for much of his career and that’s not a good thing against this Toronto squad, in a hitter’s park. Harper left the game on Saturday so his status is very important for PHI.

PHI 5-star plays: Rhys Hoskins, Jean Segura

4-star plays: Bryce Harper (DTD), Andrew McCutchen

GPP Note: Team ISO of .148 against LHPs this season.

TOR 5-star plays: Randall Grichuk, Marcus Semien

4-star plays: Bo Bichette, Vlad Guerrero Jr

GPP Note: Team ISO 0f .223 over the last week.

Cincinnati Reds (-121) @ Colorado Rockies

Pitchers:

Reds – Jeff Hoffman

Rockies – Antonio Senzatela

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 11.5. Saturday’s game is still going on as I write this, in extra-innings. Hoffman returns to Colorado and lets me tell you, he’s never been very good at Coors. We see a full 1 run jump in the total from the last couple of days in Coors. Going to be tough to fade Coors action here.

CIN 5-star plays: Jesse Winker, Nick Castellanos

4-star plays: Mike Moustakas, Jonathan India

GPP Note: Team roster is 8 for 17 with 10 RBI against Senzatela in their careers.

COL 5-star plays: Josh Fuentes, Charlie Blackmon

4-star plays: Yonathan Daza, Ryan McMahon

GPP Note: Team ISO of .200 at home this season.

Chicago Cubs (-140) @ Detroit Tigers

Pitchers:

Cubs – Kyle Hendricks

Tigers – Matthew Boyd

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8. Both SPs in Saturday’s game had a rough one but we have a chance to see some decent pitching here. The Cubs have hit LHPs really well but Boyd has been really good this season. Hendricks has struggled mightily but the Tigers aren’t very good, so what’s going to give?

CHC 5-star plays: Kris Bryant

4-star plays: Anthony Rizzo, Willson Contreras

GPP Note: Team ISO of .180 against LHPs.

DET 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Robbie Grossman, Jeimer Candelario

GPP Note: Striking out at a 28% rate against RHPs this season.

Cleveland Indians @ Seattle Mariners

Pitchers:

Indians – Shane Bieber

Mariners – Undecided

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information.

CLE 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Cesar Hernandez, Josh Naylor

GPP Note: Team ISO of .147 over the last week.

SEA 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: NONE

GPP Note: No reason to pick on Bieber, even though he’s had an HR issue.

St Louis Cardinals @ San Diego Padres (-125)

Pitchers:

Cardinals – Kwang-Hyun Kim

Padres – Ryan Weathers

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 7. The weakened SD lineup smacked around Wainwright on Saturday. This game is the Sunday Night game on ESPN so it’s a stand-alone spot. I think the offense is somewhat limited but I actually like the Cardinals’ bats more than the Padres here in this match-up.

STL 5-star plays: Paul Goldschmidt

4-star plays: Dylan Carlson, Nolan Arenado

GPP Note: Team ISO of .189 against RHPs this season.

SD 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Austin Nola, Ha Seong Kim

GPP Note: Team ISO of .121 against LHPs this season.

Watching the weather is half the battle when it comes to MLB DFS. The DFS Army Weather Station has you covered, from games that have delay and postponement potential, to games that could have significant winds that will play a roll in selecting a team to stack or a pitcher to use.

Texas Rangers @ Houston Astros (-177)

Pitchers:

Rangers – Kyle Gibson

Astros – Lance McCullers Jr.

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8. McCullers keeps rolling and at this point, I should probably just keep playing him. The Rangers are a team that’s not very good overall but they randomly have big innings. Gibson has flashed some solid numbers this season but I think this could be a tough spot as the Astros have some decent numbers against him and against RHPs when at home.

TEX 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Adolis Garcia, Isiah Kiner-Falefa

GPP Note: Team ISO of .158 against RHPs this season.

HOU 5-star plays: Alex Bregman, Kyle Tucker

4-star plays: Michael Brantley, Yordan Alvarez

GPP Note: Team ISO of .173 against RHPs this season.

Atlanta Braves @ Milwaukee Brewers

Pitchers:

Braves – Huascar Ynoa

Brewers – Freddy Peralta

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information.

ATL 5-star plays: Freddie Freeman

4-star plays: Ender Inciarte, Ozzie Albies

GPP Note: Team ISO of .195 against RHPs this season.

MIL 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Avisail Garcia

GPP Note: Team ISO of .142 against RHPs this season.

Los Angeles Angels @ Boston Red Sox (-145)

Pitchers:

Angels – Jose Quintana

Red Sox – Nathan Eovaldi

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9.5. We should see a ton of ownership in this game as it’s going to rival the PHI-TOR game for the 2nd highest total at the start of play. There’s some very strong BvP history in this game plus some guys that can just flat-out hit against below-average pitching.

LAA 5-star plays: Mike Trout

4-star plays: Anthony Rendon, Shohei Ohtani

GPP Note: Team ISO of .166 against RHPs this season.

BOS 5-star plays: Xander Bogaerts

4-star plays: JD Martinez, Hunter Renfroe

GPP Note: Team ISO of .172 against LHPs this season.

San Francisco Giants (-157) @ Pittsburgh Pirates

Pitchers:

Giants – Alex Wood

Pirates – Mitch Keller

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8. I am all for the Alex Wood comeback season. He was a guy that I thought had a bright future a number of years ago but he was hit with injuries and then an inconsistent role. I love taking LHPs against this PIT squad as their best hitters are generally left-handed.

SF 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Brandon Crawford, Brandon Belt

GPP Note: Team ISO of .175 against RHPs this season.

PIT 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Bryan Reynolds

GPP Note: Team ISO of .130 against LHPs this season.

New York Mets @ Tampa Bay Rays

Pitchers:

Mets – Marcus Stroman

Rays – Luis Patino/Josh Fleming

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information.

NYM 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor

GPP Note: Team ISO of .097 against LHPs this season.

TB 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Joey Wendle, Austin Meadows

GPP Note: Team ISO of .151 against RHPs this season.

Washington Nationals (-111) @ Arizona Diamondbacks

Pitchers:

Nationals – Erick Fedde

Diamondbacks – Luke Weaver

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 9.5. Both of these teams have gone off over the last couple of days. The total is pretty high so it’s going to be tough to avoid this game. I prefer to full-stack Washington, while I would prefer mini-stacking Arizona bats. Both of these SPs can definitely get hit hard and allow some HRs.

WAS 5-star plays: Juan Soto, Trea Turner

4-star plays: Starlin Castro, Kyle Schwarber

GPP Note: Team ISO of .142 against RHPs this season.

ARI 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: David Peralta, Eduardo Escobar

GPP Note: Team ISO of .151 against RHPs this season.

New York Yankees @ Baltimore Orioles

Pitchers:

Yankees – Jordan Montgomery

Orioles – John Means or Thomas Eshelman

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information.

NYY 5-star plays: Aaron Judge

4-star plays: DJ LeMahieu, Gio Urshela

GPP Note: Team ISO of .187 against LHPs this season.

BAL 5-star plays: Trey Mancini

4-star plays: Ryan Mountcastle

GPP Note: Team ISO of .150 against LHPs this season.

Oakland Athletics @ Minnesota Twins (EVEN)

Pitchers:

Athletics – Chris Bassitt

Twins – Kenta Maeda

Rundown:

This game has opened with a total of 8.5. I think highly of both of these SPs but both can give up some hard contact. Bassitt has shown more as far as Ks and upside goes. Maeda is a guy that I can’t figure out right now as he was absolutely dominant last season and now he’s the exact opposite.

OAK 5-star plays: Matt Olson

4-star plays: Seth Brown

GPP Note: Team ISO of .148 against RHPs this season.

MIN 5-star plays: Nelson Cruz

4-star plays: Josh Donaldson, Jorge Polanco

GPP Note: Team ISO of .181 against RHPs this season.

Miami Marlins @ Los Angeles Dodgers

Pitchers:

Marlins – Pablo Lopez

Dodgers – Undecided

Rundown:

Waiting on the Vegas information.

MIA 5-star plays: NONE

4-star plays: Miguel Rojas, Garrett Cooper

GPP Note: Team ISO of .149 over the last week.

LAD 5-star plays: Max Muncy

4-star plays: Justin Turner

GPP Note: Team ISO of .177 against RHPs this season.
