The Dawg Pound: Mutt18’s Week 6 NFL Player Props: Sports Betting for DeGens

Welcome fellow Degenerates! My name is Steve, a.k.a. Mutt18 (mutt_18 on Twitter) and I’m breaking ground on a brand new article this week that is a growing trend over here at DFS Army and SportsBet Army which is Player Props. For those of you not familiar with a Player Prop, basically, a sports betting website/bookie will give odds on how likely a player is going to achieve, in this case we’ll say, receiving yards, so they can put the odds at -112 that player X will get over or under 57.5 receiving yards, so if you bet the over, you think that player will score 58+ receiving yards and if you bet the under, you’re betting that they will have less. It can actually be very profitable as well as we can get on hot streaks like we did last week and win tons of $$$. First, we’ll take a look at what happened last week with my these picks, follow me fellow DeGens!

Week 5:

Sunday 1pm Games: 3-1

Sunday 4pm Games: 3-0

Sunday Night Game: 1-0

Monday Night Game: 2-1

Tuesday Night Game: 2-2

Total: 11-4 + 7 units

Pretty good week! However, I’m still upset about that Tuesday night game, as Andre Roberts muffing a few kickoffs cost us the Khalif Raymond prop as it allowed the Titans to just run out the clock when we need only 9 more yards. But that is betting!

Before I dig into this, let’s take a look at where I start my research every week, in our Research Station, which has all our stats, projections, and literally any thing else you need to not only dominate Daily Fantasy Sports, but is a very useful tool for betting as well! Also, sign up for access to our brand new Research Lab as well, which kicks things up an extra notch!

Alright, enough with the intros, for this week, this article will be FREE! And I will give you 3 of my favorite picks and 2 fun picks as well that can really lead to big payoffs if they hit as they are longshot odds. All of these are current as of me writing this article on DraftKings Sportsbook. Let’s dig in:

Adam Thielen OVER 5.5 Receptions (-150) to Win 1 Unit

Sep 22, 2019; Minneapolis, MN, USA; Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen (19) avoids the tackle of Oakland Raiders free safety Curtis Riley (35) for a 35 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Kirk Cousins (not shown) during the first quarter at U.S. Bank Stadium. This one just seems way too easy to me, the odds aren’t the best, but I feel that this bet should be at least -200 so we have some value here. Over the past 2 weeks Thielen has 23 targets and caught 17 of those and looks fully healthy which is huge for him. This is a pretty similar matchup to what he had against Seattle last week, where he had 9 receptions for 80 yards and 2 TDs. The Falcons have been allowing a ton of fantasy points to opposing outside receivers which is where Thielen lines up 81% of the time and they’ve been getting torched defensively every game. Their secondary is simply just flat out bad, and this game has serious shootout potential as neither of these teams play defense as the Vikings isn’t much better.

Juju Smith-Schuster to Score (+140) to Win 1 Unit

Sep 14, 2020; East Rutherford, New Jersey, USA; Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (19) gains yards after the catch against the New York Giants during the first half at MetLife Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

We all saw the Chase Claypool explosion last week, and Diontae Johnson has already been ruled out for this game as well. There’s no way that Claypool hogs all the TDs again and Cleveland is ranked 30th against the pass this year as their offense has really been carrying them. Their defensive line is very good, but the secondary is still a work in progress. Juju is a scoring machine and with everyone and their mother looking at Claypool this week for DFS purposes, that chalk leverage is another thing I like to use in player props as well, where everyone zigs, we zag and I have a hunch that Juju finds his way into the endzone in this game.

Cam Newton to Score (-148) to Win 1 Unit

Cam appears to be fully healthy after catching the Vid, and draws a solid matchup here against a Denver defense that definitely is not what is used to be. We’ve seen so far that the Patriots are a run first team, and that’s only been exemplified when Cam is under center. Denver has struggled a bit against the run this year, and we’ve seen that when the Pats get close to the end zone, they’re going to hand it to their 6’5″ 250 pound QB and let him run it in. They also don’t have the type of receivers that are going to beat a defense over the top, so they’ll dink and dunk their way down the field which should give Cam plenty of chances to run one in here as they find themselves inside the 10 yard line a lot.

DeGen Specials

This last section of the article will be what I like to call my DeGen specials, which are basically bets that have high odds that aren’t likely to happen, but if they do, the payoffs are massive. Here’s two that I like this week:

Marquise Brown to Score 1st (+900) .1 Unit

I am putting .1 units on this to win, which means I am putting 1/10th of what I would normally bet given the odds. Marquise Browns aDOT continues to climb each week, and him and Lamar have just missed on a few big plays this year. He has some consistency issues, but we all know he has Tyreek Hill-esque type speed and I can see the Ravens trying to make a statement early by taking a few shots early in the game.

Austin Hooper to Score 1st (+1500) .1 Unit

Sep 17, 2020; Cleveland, Ohio, USA; Cleveland Browns tight end Austin Hooper (81) runs with the ball during the first half against the Cincinnati Bengals at FirstEnergy Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

Hooper’s targets continue to rise week by week, and he’s finally starting to look comfortable in this offense. We also know that Baker loves to target his TE’s in the red zone, and I really think that Hooper is due for a TD here, and if it falls our way…that’ll be on the first drive of the game.

Those are some of my favorite plays for this week, and with a great catch phrase… PITTER PATTER, LETS GET AT ER’
