Texas Motor Speedway

There are three races to go in both the Xfinity and Truck Series seasons and while everyone may be looking at Martinsville as a wildcard race, Texas is the true wildcard. Since the 2017 repave, the ultra high speed 1.5 mile Texas has seen a relatively high number of crashes and DNF’s in both series. The track can be extremely single grooved and passing is very hard. Even with PJ1 traction compound applied this is the case. Elite teams own this track. You will be looking to play the best of the best cars and drivers in both series. Tire wear is minimal and track position is everything here. I would expect some strategy plays on pit road that will shake things up a bit mid-race. High variance races this week so spread out that ownership a bit more and be willing to play those super punts starting deep in the field.

Weekend Preview

Feels like another spot where we load up on Briscoe and Cindric. I recommend playing “at least  2” dominators for this race. We have a handful of really good place diff plays who should contend for top 10 finishes to pair with those two doms as well. Don’t be afraid to mix in some of the other top tier drivers like Chastain, Allgaier, and Gragson as dominators. If any of those guys get out front then they could rack up the dominator points as well. It is so hard to pass the leader here. Allgaier for example led 98 laps here in July. Stars and Scrubs seems to be the best strategy this week.

Favorite Play: Riley Herbst

I like the price and starting situation for a driver who I believe will finish back end of the top 10 and add a few fast laps to boot. He is a great stud option for this week at a track that really rewards elite equipment.

Race Preview

Two dominator strategy for this truck race as well. Will again be focusing on the GMS trucks as the top contenders for the win but it is important to remember that KBM absolutely dominated this race earlier this year. Kyle Busch led 72 laps and won. Eckes led 52 laps and finished 2nd. We have to consider them top contenders as well. The last race here was fairly calm even though we did still have a high DNF rate. Over the course of the two races in 2019, 24 (37.5%) of the trucks failed to finish the race. In Race two, we saw 13 cautions and 14 DNFs which resulted in Ray Ciccarelli finish 16th, Jesse Iwuji finish 17th, and Jen Jo Cobb finish 18th. I will be leaning towards a high DNF, crash-filled event when building lineups this week.

Favorite Truck Series Play: Raphael Lessard

Lessard finished 12th here last race. He also runs around 10th-14th at most 1.5-mile tracks. I like that he is coming back to a track where he finally has some experience. KBM trucks were very faster here earlier this year and if they bring that same speed then Lessard should contend for a top 10 finish. Starting 20th and at only $7,300, Lessard is a really solid value option and someone I believe will break the 40 point mark on DK this week.
